Dear devs,
You recently announced that you will be transforming flight deck cruisers into "flight deck carriers" by strapping an additional hangar bay onto them. FANTASTIC! Who doesn't love more hangar pets?
With this delightful new announcement, I would like to make a request: Please turn the Nimitz/Europa into a flight deck carrier!
The Nimitz was the first discovery ship out of the gate, she was the class of ship in command at the Battle of the Binary Stars, the ship who, "received T'kuvma's envoy"-if you'll pardon the euphemism
. Oh... no wait, in this context, it is literal... but also figurative... moving on:
When she debuted, she came with a fantastic 5/3 weapon layout, but a rather lack luster 3 tactical consoles. She also came with a lt.com sci/command seat. She wasn't horrible, but she certainly was rather "much maligned" by the min-maxers at the very least... and frankly lots of 'normal" players too.
I basically never see her anywhere... like... ever. Except when I whip her out to look at her ample nacelles for a bit. ESD airspace only, no missions or TFO's for her, we'll leave that to her better equipped sisters. Speaking of:
Fast forward a little bit, and every other discovery ship to launch in the c-store is a FULL SPECIALIZATION STARSHIP! WOW! I never thought I would see the day that screen-canon starships would be permitted to be full specialization ships in game! What a treat! Thanks, Devs!
But wait... check your rear view mirror... what is that beautiful thing, left behind, covered in dust? NO! It's the glorious Nimitz class! How could we let this happen!?
So, I would like to propose that the Nimitz get refitted into a flight deck carrier. The reasons are countless... though they shall be numbered:
1. This would very nicely round out the discovery representation of ship types in the c-store (lockboxes/R&D promo packs don't count!) by introducing a flight deck cruiser (carrier) -(the lack of c-store, discovery era, science ships to be sorted out at a later date >>)
2. It would be fitting considering that the Nimitz class is an aircraft carrier in the united states navy, and just so happens to be the class of the famous "U.S.S. Enterprise" that Kirk and crew needed to steal some nuclear byproducts from to fuel their Voyage Home. *connects ALL the dots* (Turns out this bit was incorrect, see edit below.)
Here we see Uhura and Checkov preparing to infiltrate a Nimitz class carrier. (Incorrect, see below)
Here we see a Nimitz class that SHOULD be a carrier. (Still true)
3. It would certainly offset the perceived deficiencies of her as a "battlecruiser" that launched with few tactical consoles and would round out her arsenal nicely.
4. There is literally precedent for battleships being converted to carriers, as described in this article:
https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/how-us-navy-transformed-battleship-aircraft-carrier-71041
5. It would bring her more "on par" with all of her full-specialization brethren, making her feel less like a throw-away ship, the first, burnt, bad pancake. By which I mean those are HER feelings, I suspect the ship itself feels this way. Inadequate, languishing in the shadows of her full specialization sisters. "I was in COMMAND at the Battle of the Binary Stars, and yet they made the CARDENAS a 'command ship'?! THE NERVE!" -I hear her say in my head. I am certain that giving her some hangars will boost her self esteem and soothe the sting.
6. She has a massive shuttle bay... I mean, dayum! She's got an aft shuttle bay you can see from the front! She's got an L.A. deflector and an Oakland shuttlebay! And with this upgrade, she would be able to dump (shuttles/fighters) like a truck! Just as nature, or rather, her designer, clearly intended.
Look at that thing! It's gotta be 4 decks tall at least!
Two hangar bays just waiting to be filled...
7. Uhh... okay, so maybe the reasons aren't "countless" but they are REALLY GOOD reasons, no?
So please, devs, make the Nimitz great again, and make her a flight deck-toting carrier!... again!
LOOK! I made a GIF! All that time and effort! (I am an amateur, so lots of time... too much time. Sooooo much effort.)
How can you not do it now?! *employs guilt trip maneuver*
Is it working? I hope it is working.
Edit: It has come to my attention that the CVN-65 U.S.S. Enterprise was not actually a Nimitz class carrier but was the first and only ship of her class as she was deemed too expensive to go into production. It has also come to my attention that the CV-61 U.S.S. Ranger of the Forrestal class was the ship filmed in the movie as the actual Enterprise was out at sea and unavailable for filming. So I feel far less bad about my mistake, as it seems fudging the details is a Star Trek tradition. :P
However, in the interest of accuracy, I have updated my gif to correct the error of calling the U.S.S. Enterprise a Nimitz class carrier. The other bits about the Enterprise were left in because I felt it was clever... if only it had been true. T.T And one can not un-ring a bell.

Assuming the other ships that get changed to full carriers don't still keep her outclassed.
l don't know.

It would be highly unusual for them to make a ship a drastically different class between the two universes... don't think that's ever been done. But if they were to open the door to ship skins being able to be different classes, I wouldn't mind. They already released the Hoover class as a warship, I think it deserves to be a science ship, if they released the same skin with a different loadout, I would be fully onboard.
An un-numbered hangar? That must be the section 31 hangar!
"Throughout her years of service, no one noticed this section of the ship was not on the MSD. The area was mostly hollow due to being a hangar bay, and relatively small compared to the rest of the vessel.
There were no primary ship systems inside that required maintenance. The Section 31-installed systems within were able to stealthily tap power from the conduits running through the walls. Conduits that the ship's crew would have maintained on a regular basis, all while being none the wiser. Hangar systems and small craft were maintained by the Section 31 personnel stationed aboard.
Occasionally, a... problematic individual, ones with above average spatial perception, might have found themselves suspicious. A "gut feeling" telling them that something was off. Should that impulse lead to bothersome snooping, mild memory alterations typically handled such situations. When insufficient, these individuals were either inducted into the organization... or retired."
-Excerpt from "Section 31: A history you won't remember."
Uh-oh... I think I just became a fan fiction writer...
+2. Spec-wise, the Europa is noticeably the only Discovery-era ship that is frankly, not good. It's basically the T6 Resolute/Excelsior of its era. Why fly a Europa when you could fly a Buran?
This ship definitely needs something. I hope Jette continues her balance tweaks, she seems to be the dev we've all been waiting for who plays and understands the game well enough to make scalpel-grade adjustments to ships that are actually appealing and fair.
The more I see it the more it feels like a slightly improved version of the iconic ships pack galaxy in terms of stats/layout/weaknesses. I dont like many Fed ships but this is one of those I do like as well.
While I would love it be a flight deck too I think its far more realistic(they are more likely to accept that) to make it
a full command ship with the command bar and the 3 team-wide commands that recharge. Its also fitting because it
was the flagship leading a fleet. Same treatment I would like to see for the iconic ships(all 3) in the future
Who is this "Jette" you speak of? I have yet to encounter anything about this dev.

I certainly wouldn't mind it getting an upgrade to being a full command ship, as I said, she is very upset about her title as a command ship being handed off to the Cardinas. But I actually think that would be LESS realistic considering that they launched the Buran as a full command vessel and I doubt they would want to whip two of those out one after another.
There's been no flight deck cruiser released with discovery other than the promo pack enterprise and that's a mythical unicorn for most players, so to me it doesn't count. Also, if you look at the list of dreadnoughts and flight deck cruisers, the only fed flight deck cruiser that's going to be getting this buff is the Pralim of the Principality of Zeon. Every other ship in that category is a dreadnought, which are excluded, or command battle cruisers, also excluded.
The only other fed available flight deck cruiser at T6 (excluding lockbox/lobi) would be the cardassian intel flight deck (cross faction), so clearly the federation has plenty of room to add a new flight deck cruiser to the roster, and it might as well be the Nimitz, especially for all the above reasons... I think the best being that the current Nimitz IS a carrier so... I mean... come on. lol.
But I would be good with either.
by the way if you go check the ships one by one if we talk for faction-specific all factions get one T6. All other T6 are cross faction and JH got zero faction-specific.
KDF has a couple extras but they arent T6 and one isnt even T5

Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.

Ah, "CrypticSpartan" actually sounds familiar.
I would love it if they continue a trend of going back and retrofitting old ships instead of just always doing "new." Even new versions of old ships with different specs/layouts/etc. I personally would have loved to have been able to outright purchase the command version of the sovie that they introduced as part of that ... board game? cross promotion thing. Apparently the promotion ship doesn't give you a discount on the fleet ship so... pffff.
But yeah, I think a system that lets you add specializations or customization to your favorite ships would be a real hit. Purchasable options like giving us the option to purchase a token that turns a boff station universal or something. (for example)
Shhhhh, don't remind the Klingons of how many ships haven't been updated for them yet... the riots... :P lul.
Point stands though, everyone's got heaps of room for more flight deck carriers. ^^ (Make the Nimitz one!)
Necro.
Should have started a new thread instead.
