Let's see. Where to begin. I understand that there USED to be a ship customization tool that allowed for much better customization of your ship's appearance, right down to its SHAPE. That should be re-implemented instead of dumbed down into a few potential appearances. Caitians (and presumably all purchased races) need FULL customization options. Playable Tzenkethi/Mirror Universe factions, as well as playable Vorta, would be nice. And lastly, and I can't stress this one enough...why only fore and aft weapons? On heavier ships like the battlecruisers and dreadnoughts at least, there should also be side weapon mounts
These days it seems like many ship type don't even give you any choices. More customisation would be good.
Even better IMHO would be a way of exploring how ships you don't own could be customised. I know you see Borg cubes in game, but it'd be cool to see how they could look when you're not shooting at them and vice versa.

There's never been a system in 9 years that allowed the customization you want for ships and the current system keeps canon forms.
Character customization is very versatile already.
Vorta didn't happen because they don't take orders from Jem'Hadar, and they are primarily Diplomats and Administrators, not soldiers.
As for weapon slots, this is one of my bug-bears, however, due to Cryptic's lax rules on canon weapon loadouts, you get 'side' mounts for everything except Dual, Dual Heavy and Quad cannons, Dual Beam and most torps.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

An ingame 'recognition guide' would be a great addition. Likely accessible from the same menu as bridge access, and updated as you encounter new factions, it could have a UI similar to the ship tailor which lets you manipulate the ship model and read up on its loadout and abilities. Which in turn reminds me that the ability to change the backdrop for the ship tailor (see: FF14 character creator) would also be welcome.
They did once upon a time have cosmetic bits in the store that you could use to tweak a specific ships look by giving it belly armour or finned nacelles.
Those got removed when the focus became more making money off ships rather than things to make your existing ship look less generic.
Actually, they used to have a bit of external software for ship customization. That external editor was scaled down and became the current customization system. Perhaps you should do more research. Also, there IS a resistance group in the Mirror universe canonically. And how would giving Caitians the same hairstyles as others cause a problem? I suppose the Tzenkethi is understandable. But it also means they were just teasing us by giving us control of Neth Parr.
Your ship customization suggestion won't happen. Ship customization is working just fine and the way they want it.
A Mirror Universe faction isn't likely to happen. A Borg Faction is more likely than MU.
You said FULL (your stress) customization of Caitians. Not sure exactly what that means, but there would likely be restrictions there. If you just meant hairstyles, then say so. That's been asked for many times.
They weren't "teasing" a Tzenkethi faction by giving the player control of Neth Parr. They were testing the tech that ultimately went into making "Quark's Lucky Seven." So, Tzenkethi won't be a playable faction either.
And while Vorta weren't ruled out completely as a possible FUTURE addition to Dominion playable races, I wouldn't hold my breath either. The Jem'Hadar storyline doesn't fit a Vorta character.

Oh the customization options are still there...for the most part, but you need to buy every single version of the ship to get all the various parts for maximum profit potential.
