So if you had a low DPS build would it be called 'dociousaliexpilisticfragicalirupes'?

I really have to wonder what gave you such a bad impression of DPSer.
The ones I got to know are all Trek fans (which is most likely the reason they are in sto), set any sort of high standards only for themselves (there is zero gain from being elitist about it aside from helping others to improve) and are no whales by any means (because everything in this game is for free for those who play smart and/or dedicated).
Do you think it is technically possible that not all DPSer are the same and that general exaggeration could be misleading here?
After having the opportunity to game with some of your fleet mates (and even with yourself while on an anonymous alt account - a true double blind test) I must say I've never heard anything but words of encouragement, thanks for a job well done, and a never ending stream of tips and things to try to do even better.
How anybody could relate the desire for self improvement and having fun while accomplishing goals as a team to something negative is beyond me.
There is a little decoration I made in kindergarten over 50 years ago still hanging on a wall in my father's workshop. It says learn to do well.

Best regards, a Star Trek fan who also plays STO.
Thank you very much for the kind words @protoneous and sharing your advice.
It is players like you who make VOC chat the cool place in game that has become. A place where casuals and pros, RPer and DPSer, newbes and veterans manage to get along just fine in PvE.

Agreed completely, thanks protoneous. People can have their pre-conceptions all they want about DPS players being against casual players and vice versa.. we'll just continue to all play together and enjoy the game like we always have.

I'd like to share this one encounter had with higher mythic WoW players (the closest WoW equilevant of STO DPS league players), I did base level Mythic with him for a world quest (think of universal endeavours but with more possible options) and the Group desided to do a admitbly low level mythic keystone it was level 3 or 4, the exact level is irrelevant, what is relevant was that my gear was borderline for that content and I said them "I don't think my gear is up to this" or words to that effect anyway and response was "don't worry we'll help you out".
And if anything WoW is more toxic then STO, in my experience with WoW, GW2, STO and FF14 the most toxic and elitist are the ones who themselves are at best borderline at top 20% or so and more often are all talk and no bite. People who I like to call "wannabe elitists" because they have the "I'm better then you so you should worship me" attitude but not the skills to back up that attitude.
As for Pete he's been nothing but respectful and helpful towards me same with other high end DPSers I've interacted with, in fact I've yet to encounter these DPSers with the "You didn't do 100k DPS therefore you should quit the game" Attitude.
TL:DR. Most DPSers(or equilevant) don't care what you do as long you try your best and it's the ones who aren't as good as they claim who are ones that care the most about that others do.
I would suggest that there are DPS'ers in-game who could be described as being the polar oposites of those here on the forum.
You are absolutely right, there are 'bad seeds' in every group of players.
It's just a shame that someone would allow such a small sliver of a player base to so strongly influence their opinion on an entire a group. This is a bias you have admirably stayed away from despite a few unpleasant experiences, and that consideration has always been appreciated.

Most definitely. And sure we have/had numerous DPS idiots in this game who bring in a bad attitude.
Like most around here I ran into them at first as well. Then got the opportunity to befriend with the admin team of the metal league and while they can’t act as strict DPS policeman (cuz it’s just a game and everybody is free to act within the rules of this game) they do everything they can to set a good example in the hope players would see and follow that.
It works nicely. All you have to do is keep an open mind and let others be the way they want to be. You always do.

You know I kind of wish this forum same rules about harsh language as Stardestroyer.net, but honestly if you think I'll White Knight anyone you're mistaken, I've lived this far (I mean literally, as I got depression issue and had suicide issues in the past) by not really caring what others think about me and that includes speaking the truth even if the person hearing it doesn't want to hear it.
I'm not rude for no good reason but I won't sugar coat things either just spare someone's feelings.
