Something I’ve realized about the Fek’lhri

First, thank you for coming to read my post. Second, something I randomly realized while thinking about the ground/space Tortured Souls, those tiny little imps that buzz around like flies...

Basically they are the Fek’lhri version of a holographic combat drone, you know the ones that the Tactical Hologram Boff has as one of its abilities? Or like a Herald Construct?

I mean we know the Dominion now created the Fek’lhri race, but were the Tortured Souls every really living beings, once long ago? Are the Fek'lhri a psionic race that enslaves mind-prints of their victims to torture their enemies with, or are they some form of ancient psionic weapons the Dominion just decided to give their warriors, essentially weaponized holograms?

Well, we know the Feks use psi in ground combat so… maybe? Also they stylize their weapons and attacks in ways intended to make them scarier. It's possible the "Tortured Soul" is basically like a scarecrow intended to frighten. Also Fek combat tactics were apparently shaped by their fights with the Klingons. And Klingons are a superstitious and cowardly lot. The idea of fighting an enemy who could steal their souls, thus preventing them from going to the afterlife would terrify them whether it was true or not. And realistically they would have no way to know for sure.
