If they'd thought of scaling ships a few months ago they could have made a much better Dominion fraction. Or hell, back with LoR and you wouldn't need to worry Romulans have far fewer canon ships than even the Klingons.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I;m liking the leveling ships... I could see Cryptc potentially getting rid of ship tiers all together replacing that old mechanic for a leveling based one.

I would love it if they put in the time to do this to all current ships. Would solve the T6 Oberth and T6 Nova threads too!

They are very likely expanding the leveling ships, perhaps to all Tier 6s. There was even a recent bug where certain slots couldn't be filled until leveling a character 1 higher than when the low-level ship was unlocked, which sounds a lot like a level-based masking of features, like the Styx has when on low level characters.

I would love it if they put in the time to do this to all current ships. Would solve the T6 Oberth and T6 Nova threads too!

I don't think it'll be an uplift of lower ships, instead just allowing higher tier ships to be used at lower levels with portion of their consoles and weapons blocked until the appropriate level.

I just like having the same ship most of the game....cause it never made sense when a NPC enemy is like well the infamous USS Odyssey ....Ummmm I just got this ship so how you hear about it

I feel a little sad leveling my Discovery captain and reaching a new rank. "Go claim your new ship!" so I do, never to use it. Poor unloved ships :(

It would have been great if they'd thought of it 9 years ago...but I think scaling ships are completely ridiculous. You shouldn't be in a Constitution class and think you can go toe-to-toe with a D'deridex battleship. The way it used to work was if you wanted to use an older ship late in the game you needed to populate all your console slots with things to make that ship suck less. Now what? Oh, you leveled up, watch as your ship magically gets stronger too! No. There should be some sort of companion mission like you have to take your ship into spacedock for a month to get it refit. And, like auto-leveling weapons, there should be no possibility that the auto-leveling ship will ever be as good as (or better) than one of the legit tier ships you could otherwise buy or get as a reward. Why insentivize having only ONE ship?

Cryptic doesn't make money off the freebie leveling ships, and I doubt they make very much off the low-level C-Store ships either, particularly with older players recommending not to. Thus, it'd make sense to try to sell newbies the endgame ships instead, as a lot of people are coming into the game to fly their favorite ship, not some random ship every 10 levels. If the player bails early on, which is the case for a lot of people trying games out, Cryptic may just have an extra $30 purchase from them that wouldn't have happened if the player could have only got it at end game.

As for the refit thing, that'd take a fair bit of time and money on Cryptic's part to setup the mission, whereas ship-scaling is a comparatively small effort with some UI and backend hooks. As some were pointing out in another thread, you can always role play that happening by going over to the Shipyard and flying into a gantry.

Because most players love a perticular ship and instead of constantly redesgining them each tier they can use the one they have.
Also star trek is centerd around one ship, almost ever series has that one vessel and it is commanded by the crew for years.
It makes less sence to command 10 different starships in the space of a year and a half.

You'll have new appreciation for them as Admiralty cards!

I for one am kinda fond of them. I only have the scaling Walker so far, but many of my mid-tier alts are using it as their T3 & T4 ship. And just as well as the standard T4 ships, isn't too shabby if you hold on to it for a few missions just upgrading the gear on it instead of rushing to a T5 or T5U ship. Around Lv 42 (-ish) the level-scaling of NPC enemies gets broken so it doesn't matter what you do; all ships will suck (until you have Mk XV EPIC everything...).

That just wouldn't be possible....there would be too many conflicts to deal with.

How do you deal with ships that have a low tier and T5/6? How do you deal with the T1 TOS Connie....since they want the Connie rare and expensive? Or things like why would a Lt be in command of a Universe class?

It would be a really cool overhaul to see some of the more unique ships like the galor and d'kora that a very rp friendly opened up to allow a cardie or a ferengi to play right the way through with a suitable ship. I imagine virtually impossible to accomplish however due to the sheer number of ships. As said earlier, its a shame its a mechanic which has only been created now.
