Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I don't think it'll be an uplift of lower ships, instead just allowing higher tier ships to be used at lower levels with portion of their consoles and weapons blocked until the appropriate level.
A retcon, they're all the rage these days.
Cryptic doesn't make money off the freebie leveling ships, and I doubt they make very much off the low-level C-Store ships either, particularly with older players recommending not to. Thus, it'd make sense to try to sell newbies the endgame ships instead, as a lot of people are coming into the game to fly their favorite ship, not some random ship every 10 levels. If the player bails early on, which is the case for a lot of people trying games out, Cryptic may just have an extra $30 purchase from them that wouldn't have happened if the player could have only got it at end game.
As for the refit thing, that'd take a fair bit of time and money on Cryptic's part to setup the mission, whereas ship-scaling is a comparatively small effort with some UI and backend hooks. As some were pointing out in another thread, you can always role play that happening by going over to the Shipyard and flying into a gantry.
Also star trek is centerd around one ship, almost ever series has that one vessel and it is commanded by the crew for years.
It makes less sence to command 10 different starships in the space of a year and a half.

You'll have new appreciation for them as Admiralty cards!
I for one am kinda fond of them. I only have the scaling Walker so far, but many of my mid-tier alts are using it as their T3 & T4 ship. And just as well as the standard T4 ships, isn't too shabby if you hold on to it for a few missions just upgrading the gear on it instead of rushing to a T5 or T5U ship. Around Lv 42 (-ish) the level-scaling of NPC enemies gets broken so it doesn't matter what you do; all ships will suck (until you have Mk XV EPIC everything...).

That just wouldn't be possible....there would be too many conflicts to deal with.
How do you deal with ships that have a low tier and T5/6? How do you deal with the T1 TOS Connie....since they want the Connie rare and expensive? Or things like why would a Lt be in command of a Universe class?
