The first 3 times I ran it, it failed 2 out of 3 (once on round 2, once right at the end of round 3).
After that I equipped the Protomatter console for AoE heals, and started each match by typing "Maru needs heals/survive for 3 rounds, once we start round 4 we're good."
After that (and using the Proto console in round 3 if needed), it only failed once out of 9 runs - because 2 players were virtually AFK. Even then we made it close to the end of round 3, but I got taken out by a torpedo hit just as I was about to trigger the Proto console, and the Maru went boom.
I've found that Elite Scorpions, Elite Kelvin Scorpions, and Elite Mirror Disco Shuttles set to escort the Maru are quite effective in keeping her alive, so long as YOU stay alive.

Things I want in STO:
1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!
Very useful items:
- Aceton Assimilator. AoE radiation, draws in NPC aggro and largely disposes of the scourge called Bioneural Torpedoes with their point defense .
- Lukari protomatter console. Extra healing is always nice in KM
- Science Powers: Gravity well (make sure it is nowhere near where the drunk JM captain steers its ship) and Transfer Shield Strength
Pets can also be very useful, but not necessary.
Use the items above correctly and round 8-10 with an average PUG should be easy enough.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Mentioned a few things in the guide.
Aceton Assimilator and the beacon of kahless are very useful items.
The first because it draws NPC aggro and disposes of those nasty Bioneural torpedoes with their point defense and the second one because it blinds the NPC for a short while thereby keeping the KM alive.

Doomsday Machine??? LOL! They expect you to kill it off for one of the rounds? NOW, that is interesting.
No. The Doomsday machine is specifically non-killable. It's just another hazard. You fight and destroy the enemy ships while hoping that the Kobayashi Maru doesn't wander into it's death-ray.
One player may serve as a decoy, and that helps, but it does take their strength away from at least the majority of the fighting for the round.
=============
What works? One of two things: High DPS, so enemies die before they can inflict too much damage on the Kobayashi Maru, or solid healing so the Kobayashi Maru can better withstand the damage that comes its way during each round.
Only have to make it three rounds and then it doesn't matter.
No one complains about not making it to round five. Not in a PUG. Either you were looking for the voucher or just looking for more marks and thought that this would be the quickest queue to get them.
In either case, you just needed three rounds to get what you wanted.
I always reached the end of round 3 and got the token with my DPS. But never got up. Every time during the Undine raid the Kobayashi ran in the enemy fleet and got killed with torpedo.
But it not bother me much because I got the token and some reputation. It's more interesting to run the queued several times by differents toons, than do the longest run possible.
When did the event get so much more difficult in a pug.
I used to be able to get much further without a problem, but getting past round 7 in a pug is almost impossible. Unless you have at least two people with the Lukari protomatter console who alternate healing, KM dies incredibly quickly, and folks are too intent on pew pew, rather than any real strategy.

Has anyone made it past round 10 or 15 in a pug?
Here. I think it was round 12. Other than myself there was one other with Aceton Assimilators, other than a single andorian escort everyone was flying science heavy vessels and with lots of space magic.
It is safe to say things got hectic after round 8.

Thanks, guys and gals, for keeping this positive while I was down for the count.
Looks like the Protomatter Field and bringing extra "pets" is a clear winner for a Kobayashi Maru run.
I will try to consolidate the info tomorrow afternoon....depending on how I feel (flu rebounding back on me, and all that).
Will start this thread so people can post successes while the event is running...instead of after.
I think that is kinda the key, since these events just land right on top of each other any more.
I am sure everyone, including me, wants to move on to the Anniversary stuff.

What worked for me? Doing it twice a day for the two days I could/needed to run it for the Weekend Voucher.
First run each day only made it into Round 3, then the Maru got blown up. The two successful ones made it to Round 4 or Round 7. I always ran timed.
I used the Protomatter Field but the Maru had the notion to get out of it as quickly as it could.
