Please make 3D Printed and Painted Captains and BOFF's a thing.

Since there is already a program in place to print 3D Ships. I have seen so many player that made unique characters. I myself thought man wouldn't it be nice if we can print out own characters and put them on our desk at home and work without the hassle of trying to figure out how to do it ourselves and instead print out our boffs and captain characters. You can customize the clothes and stance and everything. Send it off and have it printed/painted and get the model in the mail. If you can do it for a ship, you can do it with a characters. Since all character are humanoid.... minor tweeks with ears, hair, size, height.

Issue would be that some players make characters that look like actors from the Star Trek series, even though it's not allowed. And some NPC's do look their actors.

The issue with 3D printing would be that Gameprint for example would have a hard time to sort through if it's actually a unique character or a look alike. And creating a model and sell it for profit when it's based on another real person is not allowed, you have to purchase the rights to use them.

Something that is very expensive, that's why you only see Kirk once in the game with his face down. Some actors are cheaper though. But still, expensive.

It's not that, they explained it in one of the streams. Many uniforms and character models have thin parts that would be hard to make with 3D printing and would increase the cost. So the devs don't want to restrict who is able print their captain too much.

And trust me you can go radically different from the human norm with the "Alien" species option.

Well thanks for the whole copyright thing but i have seen few "really" accurate player made characters. Only one i could see as accurate are made buy the dev team for the most part. I acknowledge that are some but not many players that can or did create likeness to the actors (having a bald guy the similar hair pattern and naming the character picard is still no patrick steward when they have a generic face. Which is how the game skirt pass copyright stuff to put the character in the game before the actors allow their likeness to be in the game. As as said have not seen player being able to do that accurate a recreation because the dev actually scan the actors in to the program and recreate the actors with tools the players don't have so player can't really make a complete likeness to the actors. At best i can be said to be a parody or fair use. Some there is room for some lega loophole. As long it is different enough.

As to the answer about the Alien Species option, they are still humanoid. Player are not able to to create a bug shape character, some kinda liquid changing via Clayface like monster from like batman as a player captain or Boff.

What we player can create are in human-like beings (two arms, two legs, two-eye (well you do get a eye-patch for a missing eye of something, sometimes two ears, other times no ears), basic human shape.
