I've probably mentioned this earlier at some point, but I think the idea has merit...
The Arena of Sompek and Kobayashi Maru scenarios are fairly popular (gripes about the contradictory behavior of the principal in the latter aside) when they resurface, and while it would be nice if they were available year-round (with event variants coming up every now and again; see Crystalline Catastrophe and Cataclysm), that's not quite what's being pondered here. Rather, I find myself wondering if STO could benefit from an analogue of FF14's 'deep dungeons' (
reference) as another bit of ground-pounder content, easily explained in-universe as a holodeck exercise. Admittedly, a lot of effort would have to go into this adaptation, especially given level sizes in comparison to something like AoS, and I doubt it would be practical to try and mirror the empyrean aetherpool gear mechanic...
This simulation, I imagine, could come in flavors suitable for solo players (without boffs), duos, and full five-operator groups, each with their own leaderboards for things like maximum floors cleared, and even time trials (fastest to a specific floor).
