Personal Opinion on the new Fek'ihri Ship

ichaerus1ichaerus1 Member Posts: 986 Arc User
Just unlocked the warship. Decided to put my thoughts out there for it. My thoughts may not necessarily coincide with those of people, however.

So to start with, the good:
Maneuverability: Without hitting the move spike abilities, or packing RCS, I got the turnrate to 52 degrees/sec, without gold gear. With 60 inertia, very nice.
4/4 weapons loadout, dual cannons allowed. I won't complain about this, as with the great turnrate, I can keep the dakka dakka on target pretty well.
5 tac consoles. Helps with the dakka. More dakka dakka always good.
Exterior: I like it a lot. Having 3 different hull materials to choose from, so that I can utilize the metal like that on the Kar'fi. And even though it doesn't make a huge amount of sense in space, it gives that American muscle car vibe with the flames popping out. If you're at a standstill, while full impulse is activated, it looks like engine cylinders firing off with the timing. If you hit the impulse and are moving, the visuals flare out even more. Reminds me also of the reaver ships in Firefly/Serenity when the ship is in motion. Slap on the borg visuals, and you can make it pop out, like a Warhammer 40k orkified ship. The lines and edges tell you it wants to go fast, and move around, not park like a broadside whale.
Hull: Lower than most of the other warships, but is still manageable.
Pilot spec: I admit, I'm not all that knowledgeable regarding pilot spec for boff abilities. I do like Ignite Coolant 1, or Hold Together 2. Pilot Team in the ensign slot. However, it opens up more options for using the Breenhearted trait.
Trait: Interesting, in that "roadhaul someone through the misery" sort of way. I could see using abilities such as a doffed Tractor Beam Repulsor, and a Mine Pattern combo'd with the Tethered Quantum Mines or Nukara Mines for this.
Boff layout: Ideally for me, I would've liked if the LTC universal wasn't tied to the Pilot spec, but I'll live with it. I would have to work with the Breen ship parts set if I want an Eject Plasma effect to combo with Ignite Coolant and the chains console, since you can't slot Eject Warp Plasma if you slot Ignite Coolant.

And now, to the bad:
Console: I don't know how many different sources of fire there are in the game for space. Definitely can't use the fiery experimental weapon, so that knocks a source away. No idea what sort of -repel is tacked to the console, so unsure how big of an enemy can be dragged, or how strong the pull is. Borgy scimitar from Khitomer Vortex instances can definitely be dragged. No idea if space pickles can be. Also, no set bonus for Fek'ihri console. No combining with Kar'fi(missed opportunity there, in my opinion. Could have even opened up the Kar'fi console to be equipped on this ship if someone wanted to. It's the Vor'cha console set overlook all over again. And yes, I am aware that the Kar'fi is a faction exclusive console, but there are faction console sets that have something exclusive to one, that others can't complete(such as the Romulan D'Derpidex console set or the Vesta.)

And finally, the ugly:
Interior: Biggest gripe I have. Biggest case of the dev team "phoning it in," or being lazy when there was opportunity to make something happen for the bridge. They could have given it the option similar to the Risian Luxury Cruiser, in allowing faction bridges to be applied. Or even something that was Fek'ihri/fire/demon themed. Myself speaking, I was hoping to use the Reclaw bridge for this. Or that there would be an inferno themed unique bridge for it. Faction bridge application might've been the best option, as you could mount trophies and go to various levels of the ship. Sometimes I like sitting on ship bridges, just to view the artwork of the interior, but that's me.

Sector space: The ship is overscaled, for its ship class, and you're zoomed in when flying around out there.

In my thoughts, I give it an 8.7-9.1/10. Not perfect, but definitely fun to fly. Looks good. I make muscle car engine sounds IRL when I fly the ship around. What opinions do you guys have regarding it?

I'd have to agree with most of this, I do find the interior most disappointing. Especially when compared with the exceptional detail on the exterior model.

I am also disappointed with the fragility of the craft, makes it rather difficult to make a truly 'fun' build. Additionally, using the chains of fire is almost a suicidal tactic considering how paper-thin the hull and shields are. Good thing the console can be moved to a more durable ship.

I'm mostly happy with the BOFF layout, however I do find the universal station a bit of a tease. It's rather difficult to use it as a specialist seat. Not impossible, but trickier than I'd like.

I am quite pleased with the exterior model, it offers a decent selection of customization options (nothing like the luxury cruiser, but few ships have that level of customization), and the detail on the model is very impressive.

For you, I could have guessed that observation was incoming.
I have not collected it on my characters, yet....but it is unlocked.

You'd have to use things such as the Dynamic Power Redistributor Module, Brace for Impact, Polarize Hull/Hazard Emitters, Aux2SIF/Aux2ID (if you're not going Aux2Bat build) or if AP build, the crystal console to spike your durability if you want to roadhaul enemies behind you. I'm used to battlecruisers such as the Vor'ral, Negh'tev, Kurak, Bortasqu', so the agility is something I'm having to relearn from my Destroyer/Raptor/Raider days.

I've found that currently, I'm using Hold Together 2 in place of an Engineering Team(if I'm not using Ignite Coolant), and using my sci boff for sustainability(HE1, Sci Team 2, Polarize Hull 3/Transfer Shield Strength) with the Lukari Space dorito console, DPRM console, and a few other damage resist spike abilities.

Yeah, I made mine red/rust/steel, and it's definitely just a few skulls short of cruising through space chanting Blood for the Blood God.

Odds are we will get a interior, just not this pass...if I recall the Breen interior wasn't released the first pass either.

The fire damage thing, we may or may not see more fire damage in the future...maybe they have plans for some of the other winter ship consoles to do fire damage.

I lost interest when I saw the 4/4 layout.

I just find the stats on this ship confusing..

You give it a 16 turn rate and the ability to mount dual cannons.. why give it the layout of a broadsider? It just doesn't make sense to me.

I like the ship itself, it has a descent bridge officer layout, has a good console layout.. it would be a nice ship for cannons. Yes, you can still put cannons in the front with 4 turrets.. but it just seems like a waste.

If it had 5 forward weapons, it would be a much better ship.

I'm unlocking my S'torr today and I'm really excited about it. I came back to STO after being gone for years just to pick it up. It's going to replace my Nicor as my main ship.

I don't care about fitting cannons. What I love is the 8 guns, fast speed and turn rate, and ability to use dual Aux2Bat. I use the cooldown reduction DOffs and pewpew with BFAW, APO, and KLW. The cooldown reductions keep them at global cooldown pretty much all the time.

The pilot seating means I will be able to use pilot team, something I can't do on my Nicor. I have a redundant ensign engineering slot on it, and have emergency power to engines 1 on it, and rarely ever use it because it interferes with emergency power to weapons 3 which is critical for my build. I use the emergency weapon cycle trait to reduce weapon power cost. On the S'torr that universal station is going to be an engineer with pilot team 1.

My other starship traits on this will be pedal to the metal, subwarp sheath, and maw of grethor. All three are tied to your throttle.

Flying around crazy fast and BFAW everything while continuously clicking powers coming off of cooldown is a really frantic and aggressive way to play and it's the most fun I've had in STO. I'm happy they made this ship.

My biggest problem with my Nicor is that it's paper, and I suspect the S'torr will be paper too. I'm okay with blowing up as long as I take some ships with me.

Its basically a high initial spike, low dot damage doffed tractor beam repulsor (so it pulls). Its entertaining on an EPG sci build. Pull is as strong as whatever your control points level is.

Its a new console..The only time they tac stuff like this to a set bonus is when they release new ships..(usually the next 3 ship set after the event. So wait up Bruh..Might be on the horizon.

I see what you are saying.

They seem to be focused on ships having more guns to the rear, lately....even though the Hur'q is old news at this point. I wonder if they meant for it (ViL and Hur'q) to go on a longer period of time before they changed focus into Discovery.

Are people still trying to do Hur'q content? Or are they on to Binary Stars etc... I don't know. I guess, I have a ways to go with it, still....maybe, but I haven't been paying much attention.

I am firmly on that WW event rollercoaster. LOL!

There's already precedent for them overlooking console set bonuses/completions. Vor'cha/Vor'ral, as well as the Vaadwaur Juggernaut console. So yes, this is a concern that has popped up, "bruh."

They could just allow captains to apply the bridges from their respective factions, like the Risian Luxury Cruiser.

I fly it like an escort equipped with an extra rear weapon slot in place of the experimental weapon. Going to do my best to keep space for that console, because when you time it right, that thing can be FUN.

By no means am I implying that the ship is 'bad' or that it can't be used effectively.. it's just not optimized for my personal play style. It will however, appeal to other people and that's great. I personally claimed it for admiralty because I have other ships that better fit the style I like to play.

While a 5/3 or even a 5/2 setup would be more optimal for this style of ship, there are plenty of escorts and destroyer types that are 4/3 with experimental slot and this ship is better than pretty much all of those. I would much rather have a real weapon slot in the rear of those 4/3 ships over the experimental slot. So stat wise, I find this ship to be pretty high actually. There are not very many fast turning 5/3 or 5/2 ships out there. Yeah it's not best of the best...but I don't expect that for a giveaway event ship really. It is however better than pretty much any of those 4/3 escorts and destroyer types IMHO...which means it's rated pretty damn high. Like single digits high.

However...the ship is ugly as sin for me...so yeah...not gonna fly it much.

The only thing I don't like is the bridge deal. Fragile kind of sort of at the first levels nothing epic 15 consoles and gear can't fix. Fly it like a hybrid between a cruiser and an escort you'll be fine.

To clarify, I never said I wasn't capable of handling a fragile ship. Heck I used to PvP in a Vesta before Delta Rising, once you lose shields in that you were screwed lol. So a thin hull isn't a real issue for me to handle. I simply stated it isn't very fun dealing with it.

Using the chains console is problematic, I'm betting it's my timing though. Grabbing ships ready to explode and getting caught up in the core breaches. Hehe, oops.

Thanks for the suggestions though, I don't usually use specialist abilities so I'll give Hold Together a try sometime.

If it had 5 forward weapons, it would be a much better ship.

I was getting tired of it seeming that every cruiser that came out was 5/3. :)
Though at an inertia of 60, you could argue its not really a cruiser. Its more an escort with a 4/4 layout.
The T6 NX-01 & Fleet Advanced Escort (T6) has the same rating while the Reliant Advanced Light Cruiser (also a pilot ship) has a 40. The S'torr is a strange beast, for sure.

There are only 6 other 'warships' in the game and all with high inertias. Almost equal split on 4/4 and 5/3 layouts.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

I am running the Kobali 4 piece set for survivability. And I am loving the console. I especially like it in the Asura Nebula Rescue. When we have a 5 pop, I can go in and use the console, TRIBBLE Evasive Maneuvers, and pull the large ships and anything else around with me. And the Kobali set bonus helps to give a max boost to my shield facings. I have only popped once doing that, and that was because all my heals were on cool down.

But, keep in mind that I am running on normal difficulty, because I don't have anything higher than MK XII very rare quality. So I am pretty sure it will not be able to do nearly as good.

I have the cutting beam on the back with 3 turrets, and run 2 DHCs, 1 Torp, and 1 DBB. For Tac skills, 2 copies of TT 1, Torp Spread 2, and CSV 2 and 3. I am able to keep up with the TFOs I have been in so far. Plus, I am flying this after flying a T5 Fleet Defiant. So, pretty much all of the T6 ships I fly are OP by comparison. I was getting popped all the time in the Defiant. This thing, I am able to survive three to four times as long in a swarm of ships.

I am looking forward to what they might be coming out with for the Anniversary event. I hope it is a T6 ship that is as good if not better. I would love a good Science ship with 7 weapons, and good seating, in addition to good console setup.

I just like to say as a Klingon side player my Klingon and Jem'hadar both have the Kar'Fi Carrier, and have a single console that sadly isn't useable on the Fek'Ihri S'Torr Warship: the Phase Shift Generator. It would be nice to use it on the warship ship, and if it had a set bonus. Would help with the survivability of the thing some mention. ...yes it would to the Fed side not getting a set bonus for once, the irony...
