Hey, is there a STAR TREK ONLINE "ROSETTA STONE"?

There are quite a few head-scratching acronyms, that are 'casually' tossed around in STAR TREK ONLINE, that I really would appreciate knowing what these words/terms mean. Is there some sort of "translation matrix", that completely clueless new users, (or somewhat 'befuddled' older user's), can reference to cut down on the "kick me signs, I always seem to wind up wearing, when I try to read some of the 'content' that gets posted in the forums.

For instance, just what exactly is 'RESPEC'? or RESPEC TOKENS?

Perhaps this is of some help: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/wiki/glossary

As for respec, it's not an acronym, but an official term used to describe wiping clean your current skilltree so you could reallocate your skillpoints. Respec token is the item used to respec/retrain your skills.

    Thank you, very much.

I really appreciate your very prompt response. I have been working on trying to find out how to make a couple of ADMIRALS that I made sometime ago, more efficient in the program. I just need to know just how exactly do you 'RESPEC' a LEVEL 65 FLEET ADMIRAL?

When you open up your skill window (default hotkey is K iirc), there should be a button somewhere "respec skills" or something similar. When clicking on it, you have the ability to spend the tokens you already have (if any) or buy new ones for zen.

A "Respec" token can be used to change your characters skill. It resets your current "spec", e.g. your current skill point allocation, and refunds you all the points spend.

The rest you have to learn by osmosis.

Or asking. Or maybe visiting the Prelude to Ten Forward on the reddit Wiki: https://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/wiki/tenforward

It is very common for powers and traits to be abbreviated in some form.
Emergency Power to Weapons to EPtW (not always with the capitalization, though.), or Auxilliary to Batteries as Aux2Bat or A2B. AHOD means All Hands on Deck, a Starship Mastery Trait.
DOFFing refers to the Duty Officer system, BOFF to Bridge Officers, BO Power to Bridge Officer powers, but BO to Beam Overload.
Obviously, there is a lot, since the game has a lot of game mechanics.

Other things are referred to by names that don't really appear in the game, but represent important concepts that you only really get to understand when you go deeper down the rabitt hole.
For example, a "Cat1" (Category 1) damage buff vs. a "Cat2" damage buff. There are different damage buff types, the type being somethines hinted at in the description, but only understood by the initiated. For example, "x % to damage" typically is a Cat1 buff. There are lots of them, incuiding bonuses from tactical consoles or from the Mark of a weapon.
Cat2 are often identified by being worded as "x % bonus damage". There are less of them.

Now, within a category all buffs stack additively, across them, they stack multiplicatively. Since the damage a weapon gains from its mark is also a Cat 1 buff, all these bonuses are applied to the base damage what's basically the Common Issue Starter weapon you have on a Starter Miranda.

So, the effective damage is something like Base Damage * (1+SUM of all Cat 1 Buffs) * (1+SUM of all Cat 2 Buffs).
    (remember, the expression 75 % means 75 of 100, so a 75 % buff is basically a 0.75 modifier)

the bridge officer powers get abbreviated A LOT. sometimes you just have to ask. common ones are BFAW (Beam fire at will) BOL(Beam Overload) TS (Torpedo Spread) HYT(High Yeild Torpedo) CSV(cannon Scatter Volley) CRF(Cannon Rapid Fire) EPT(x) emergency power to (shields, Aux) AP(x) attack patterns not to be confused with AP which is Anit-Proton. there are a ton others you can figure out by context.
