Changes to the Duty Officer System

I don't see a lot about the doff system on here, but it's one of my favorite parts of the game. I like the feeling that, as my PC and bridge crew are engaging in harrowing adventures, all the little people in the lower decks are just going about their daily routines. Being able to endlessly buff my character isn't so bad, either.
But I've noticed since the recent patch we have a new tab on the doff menu. It's normally blank, but I've found that with certain NPCs, when I interact with them their name is shown on the blank tab. So, what's the new tab for? Will there be a new feature that allows various named NPCs to offer additional duty officer assignments? Because I would really, really like that.
Another thing: last I checked, the "Personal" tab in the doff system no longer updates while on DS9, and the "Current Map" missions are gone. Is there any plan to restore those functions?
