Risa Upgrades

I love Risa. I mean, I LOVE Risa. I don't take summer vacations: I don't need 'em because I can hang on Risa. And I can grind it like no one's business - but... I'd love some new games to play. It's not that I don't like the current ones, but... So, my fleetmates and I were thinking that an underwater event would be great: maybe a race, using devices akin to powered scuba units, where you need to go through the hoops (or perhaps through underwater ruins? Maybe even collecting tadpoles that have to be raised into full-sized Risian trout, ala the birds and monkeys?) (Or you get to explore a sunken ship? Or rescue trapped passengers from the sinking ship? )There's large areas on the north and east side of the island that would lend themselves to the event (Yes, I know the map would have to be expanded (or maybe a sub-map like the winter village?)- but the tourism industry of Risa should be able to support the expenditure...) :-)
What about it? We've been on the ground, above the ground, in the ground (well, a cave), on the water, above the water... Now, it's time to go under the water.
Please?

That could be interesting, but tadpoles grow into frogs, you'd need to collect fry (newborn fish) to raise into trout ;)

However, the water on Risa never gets above hip-deep, so something like that would be difficult, unless they made some of the water deeper.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

I like Risa, but it definitely gets repetitive.

I would definitely like to see some new games or races. We could use more multi-stage events. We have the powerboard/floater race. How about more biathlon, pentathlon, or decathlon type events.

How about adding something with a shooter element where you have to hit 5 flying targets before moving to the next stage (like that game that Seven and Janeway play in the holodeck) - powerboard to a shooting area to floater obstacle course.

Or how about a timed trivia area - where you have to answer lore questions. The timer would reduce the ability to use the wiki to find answers. You could do it as a "lightning round" where you have say 60 seconds to answer as many questions as possible - more correct answers, more points.

A "halo" dive like in (Into Darkness when they board dreadnought or Kelvin Star Trek when they dropped to the drill) where we start high in the atmosphere and drop toward a target, but have to shoot obstacles out of our way or we splat into them.

Fun does not concern me. Acquiring the objects I need to acquire objects I want to put on my ship or characters motivates my participation. The excessive favor cost of new Risa items led to me not participating on Risa except to get the ship. This will continue unless we get more efficient ways to acquire marks.

The water in the entire universe is only hip deep going by STO.

Oh, we have a few places in game where it's over your head. But not many since STO doesn't do underwater missions. You can MAKE underwater missions in Foundry though. :D

It took a start-up investment (to buy the floaters), but doing the horgahn hunt on 5 alts makes favors hand over fist. 500 for 15 minutes? Bought everything I wanted and I've got like 15k saved for next year. /shrug

I would love for the devs to allow the ship earning each year to be able to choose a past ship one of these times, maybe a choice to be able to get a past ship instead of the one you are working for.

I wouldn't mind having an underwater experience. The issue is whether the map can hold it. The current Summer map has a lot of stuff already. Assuming Cryptic has some time and money, they could make a new underwater map for us to visit.

CO has swimming physics, no reason STO can't do that.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

An underwater map would mean cryptic would have to add a "swimming" mechanic to the game, while it's something that isn't 100% impossible as FF14 added swimming to the game post launch (granted Square-Enix is a lot bigger company then Cryptic), it's gonna take resources and might be too much work for STO. Granted we have 3D movent system on ground for the floaters/EV-suit thrusters, so it might just be a matter of adding the 3D movement ability as a passive skill for all characters when in deep enough water and making new animations, I dunno.

    How very Borg of you.

    Fun is irrelevant.
Your devices and marks will be adapted to service us.
    Enjoyment is futile.

The engine can already do it. CO has an older crappier version of the same engine, and has pretty decent swimming physics for a game its age.

sure and we already got 3D movement in form of the floaters and spaceships, that was never in question but rather how much work would it be to add/active those physics for STO.
