Question regarding the recent change in subs

Hello, CO player here o/ I have never played nor have any idea regarding STO.

However I do know that recently you guys suffered a change in regards to your subscription method that suffered quite a backlash. That same thing is happening right now in CO too so I would like to know:

1) After the change went live, was it as bad as it sounded out to be?
2) Were you able to see changes in the game's population after this change went live? Increase? Decrease?

Thank you for your time ^^

    1) my accounts are LTS and strict f2p so can't really comment on the effects

    2) the change came in during a recent spate of events so it's hard to gauge the actual impact but doesn't seem to have had much impact on numbers.

Hmmm....No. All current running subs are still running. They are unaffected, and as for population, no-one but Cryptic can tell you and it wouldn't really have any effect to be honest as STO has a great Free To Play model.

As I understand it, if you have a current subscription, it continues until canceled. Only new subscriptions cannot be purchased, nor can you resume a canceled subscription. Certain perks that came with the monthly subscription were moved to a one-time purchase package in the C-Store.

Caveat emptor: if a player has already maxed out certain things (ex. maxing out bank/inventory slots), that alone could lock you out of being able to purchase the entire package.

I didn't notice any real backlash from them stopping offering monthly subs and instead offering an in-game one-time purchase that gives most of the benefits of subscribing for one month (inventory space, character slots, etc.). There were/are some issues if you had any of the slots it granted maxed already that the new one-time purchase gives that would block the entire thing, instead of just what was maxed. The only negative mentions of it beyond that, are that due to the way it's coded that you could have gotten a higher maximum amount than is possible now by this purchase than subscribing for things like Account Bank slots.

As for player counts, it seems to be going up slightly, but that's likely due to a new Expansion launching here soon for STO.
