Bridge Officer Trainer at DS9?

ak255ak255 Member Posts: 317 Arc User
I'm sure this has been talked/asked about before, but with the new expansion coming, this is a good time as any to bring it up. We seriously need a Bridge Officer trainer at Deep Space Nine. It's always annoying to have to backtrack to Earth or where-ever just to get another ability I want that I didn't consider getting at the time. And since the Exchange is a joke by selling abilities for a ridiculous price when the trainer sells them for pocket change, it just makes it all the more annoying.

EDIT: I just thought of this: If that's not possible, why not let us buy them anywhere but pay Dil instead? You know, like a convenience store we can pull up anytime for those who don't want to travel all the way to some place to get some specific thing? I already hardly use my Dil for anything anyways.

The Exchange sells nothing, other players set those prices, and they are a laziness tax. If you want the skill now they you pay the tax, otherwise you make the tiny effort and get the cheap prices.

A tax? Selling Emergency Power to Weapons I for over 100,000 EC when it only costs 250 is a "tax"?

I must agree with Az. I myself have had times when I wanted to train a BoFF and just didn't feel like going all the way back to Sol to do so. So, I hit the exchange, paid @ 100 times what the manual was worth, and went on my merry way. Lazy tax is one way of putting it, you could also call it a surcharge, delivery fee, tip, or a few other terms. The point being, you can buy the manuals cheaply from the BoFF trainers at a few specific locations but you have to travel there to get them, or you can pay that amount plus a huge mark up to some player at any exchange point if you don't feel like making the trip.

I dont sell any of those manuals thou.. time is money. if you dont want to pay, then swap toons to a mule at a town and buy and put in shared account bank. if none then mail it to yourself. takes time thou... 5 to 10 mins? thou when I switch toons like that... it kills my intent to play and I often go do other stuff.

Regardless of whatever the heck just happened to this thread, a BOff trainer at DS9 is a fine idea.

They could put a boff trainer on DS9. Perhaps there'll be one on the new one?

I prefer to hang out on DS9 much more than ESD, so I would love this.

I'm perfectly fine with no trainer at DS9, Drozana, Nimbus 3, or Risa. Lazy tax is all there is to it. The absence of a trainer doesn't facilitate a necessity. Rather, a want to enable laziness in the name of "convenience."

That would have little effect on the prices players choose to post skill manuals for on the Exchange. There will still be people who, when they decide they need a new boff skill while in the Delta Quadrant will pop the azura (or other faction freighter) and buy one quick. I made 6 such purchases on 2 characters a few days ago, though I used the bridge of a Nandi not the trade freighter. This would also not impact the prices of manuals not available from the Boff Trainer NPC, such as TS3. These manuals only craftable by players, or **** from a Boff's hide, would most likely not change in price at all. Most assuredly this would not affect the prices of Lockbox skill manuals.

All true x4 (though I like to come to places like the DQ prepared). Given that we're getting a renewed DS9 very soon I hope it has a boff trainer NPC. It used to qualify for a respec officer. It's going to be a jumping off point to an entire new quadrant with the expansion so to me at least it would make sense for it to have one... it would be silly for it not to be "full service".

DS9 hopefully will become the busy hub it once was back in the days of Cmdr Roxy.

Didn't they add a security officer to a new location not too long ago?

    Cute.

But in all seriousness, this should happen. Not just for convinience, but for our new Jem'Hadar captains. DS9 is going to become the new ESD with this new expansion.

As for paying for things on the Exchange, I don't mind paying a little extra to get what I want quicker, but emphasis on LITTLE! I've seen things besides manuals go for WAY more than they should. Hell, it's actually cheaper to spend EC to transwarp to ESD and back. So already there's a system in place to pay to save time, so these prices make no sense.

Discussion of moderation is against forum rules and again the prices on the Exchange are set by players and players can set any frakking price they want, don't like it don't pay it, thats your choice.
To continue this train of thought to it's logical conclusion.... If you think prices are tooo high, feel free to sell manual at a "more reasonable" price.

Which I have actually done some time back. I used to craft manuals to make EC, wasn't gonna get rich, but it helped me buy stuff I thought I needed. Anyway, I would price the manuals at the usual going rate minus just a bit for a quick sale. One day I noticed that the usual large numbers of a certain for @ 200K were all gone, with the cheapest price being closer to 600K. Every manual of type type I would post was almost instantly snatched up and sure enough another 600K one would show up.

So, feeling trollish, I set every toon I had to making as many of that manual as I could and just kept throwing them on the exchange for 200K. The player(s) trying to price gouge that manual gave up buying them all before I got tired of making them, meanwhile, the amount I would have gotten in a few weeks crafting that manual was accomplished in one day.

I did it mainly because I was feeling trollish, but also because it was a manual needed, (or at least extremely helpful), by lower level players who might not have 600K EC available, and the 200K I was selling them for was still double what I spent on the Padds I needed to craft them.

    LTS and loving it.
