Additional environmental suit UI slot

Can any tell me what the additional environmental suit UI slot is there for? What function is supposed to be there cause my slot is empty.

    I believe in "Boldly They Rode" that slot was used to show the path you needed to take.
    Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
