At the end of Survivor you teased with a clip of Data telling Sela about her mother. I know you didn't show his face but the holo box belonged to him so that tells me it is him. So where is He?

If Spiner is willing/able to play Data again. This cameo (which specifically avoids using the actor's likeness) is as far as Cryptic can go on their own. It's possible this is far as they'll ever be able to go with Data.

Would be great to see him in the game, but I'd view his role in Survivors strictly in terms of giving a character arc completion rather than teasing anything new (pretty much the theme of the whole episode.)

There is STO canon that explains how Data came back from the official Star Trek Online novel "Needs of the Many".

Been awhile since I have read it but I'll explain what I can remember of it. Geordi took the B4 android to the Daystrom Institute and successfully restored Data's matrix. The problem was that both B4 and Data had to share the same brain and body but only one could be in control at a time.

Eventually Data realized this was wrong and attempted to delete himself, but B4 stops Data by seemimgly sacrificing himself. Data feels guilty about the sacrifice not know that B4 actually downloaded his mind into a Daystrom computer.

The book is pretty good and gives details about several characters and where they are in the STO timeline. The book is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Google Play Books as a download.

I read it. I just wanted to know where he is in the game.

It's a good question though. I hope they'll follow up on it.

But to be fair, there's no proof that it actually was Data. It may well have been some random other crewmember of the Enterprise D. It was quite a big ship after all and unless you were a helmsman, there was a fair chance to survive all those years under Picard.

The holo thing may simply be a copy, I don't see why it couldn't have been replicated.

I thought that per STO lore (pun?), Data's personality emerged in B4, so Data is again up and running (which was the plan with future Next Gen movies, and would also explain how Data, who never ages, looks as old as Brent Spiner was getting).

Data's alive and currently somewhere on Earth according to STO lore. Hell, the canon comic book Star Trek Countdown confirms that Data is alive. I think Countdown has Data explaining how he was alive again after Nemesis. Even Path to 2409 covers how Data was able to come back to life.

This is a good question. That big appearance of data at the end of the Sela sauga was both emotional and a cliff hanger.

I suspected at the time it meant Data would appear in game but upon reflection I dint know why I expected such a thing...

It was just an emotional conclusion to an emotional story.

Why dont you guys suggest what it would take to justify a data story...

Brent Spiner seems cool enough toward fans to likely take a small gig with cryptic.

A Data story would not require being a time travel mission as Data is apparently alive and well in STO.

It goes without saying that Data and Geordie and maybe Will Wheaton as Wesley need to be involved in the Data story.
Data's best missions were when he was a "man alone" making a difference on some colony or a rogue in a clandestined mission.
See: Ensigns of command and the one where he is damaged in a crash to retrieve federation tech from a primitive planet or stranded in times arrow OR prisoner on Fajo's ship OR the opening scene of Insurrection "takes deep breath."

So here's my idea for the data arc:

You start mission with a beautiful cinematic of USS Pasteur. Captain Picard (aka; Dr. Crusher voiced by Gates Mcfadden) gives her Captains Log saying how glad she is to have her son Wes who is recently a commander visiting from the Titan. Geordie and Data are also boarding from starbase 47, it's like a mini family reunion.

Cut to a scene of Wesley finishing up a personal convo with Beverly in her ready room. Beverly says "dont forget poker tonight after dinner!"

Wes and his mom are interrupted by news of an incident at Starbase 47 where their friends and 100's others lives hang in the balance. As the mission unfolds you as the player must find Geordie and Data as the Pasteur renders aid to the planetary starbase. We discover the heroic story of how Captain Laforge and Data save Starbase 47 in spite of an act of terrorism. Data and Geordie uncover the sabateur with the help of Crusher's and the Pasteur in orbit.

This new game engine feature puts players in control of commander Crusher. You play as Wesley and pilot the pasteur. The end of the mission your actual character and ship warp in to render assistance and you meet the Crushers and Data and your old pal Laforge.

This mission rewards you with unique sci-medical kits and we get Beverly Crusher hair style and long medical jacket in costumes. A special metaphasic ship shield (that van resist all kinds of hell) and what the hell- an old school Dust Buster type 2 and old style type 1 phaser from the next generation seasons 1 and 2 because we saw Dr Crusher defend Wesley and shoot an admiral with those original TNG weapons. Also, Lore sets fire to Beverly's lab coat with one of those old dust buster phasers when she tried to save Wes from him in season 1.

I really liked how the devs made a unique phaser beam for the TNG type 3 phaser Rifle from the recent Laforge missions. It has a lower resolution glowy 1990's phaser beam effect and when it hits the target a circular wave deflects from the impact point of the beam. This tiny detail was a great homage to the earthy TNG phaser beams which were blurry and had those blast waves. The old schooltng type 2 dust buster and type 1 cricket deserve unique beams with those blast wave effects and tng phaser sound. This will complete you Dr. Crusher or TNG Cmdr. Data look!

The mission ends with a feel good yet emotional scene of your character sitting down to poker with Beverly, Wesley, Geordie & Data onboard the Pasteur.

Oh! A T6 updated- screen accurate Pasteur science ship with accurate interiors from "all good things" is available in c store and as fleet ship variant as a result of this mission.

Ps: I love my idea above... Lol. With the new game feature of playing from another characters body/perspective, in my story idea above you switch to Data on the planet surface (remember many star bases are on planetary surfaces) starbase 47 is a beautiful seaside town with binary suns setting eternally and as Data you track down and stop the terorrists as well as find and save Geordie who was trapped and injured helping starbase inhabitants while the Pasteur keeps open comms with you (data) and Wes from orbit.

I can see Data's memories emerge in B4... but someone would literally need to have heavily tinkered with his positronic matrix. But whatever, TNG was already retconned in Generations, First Contact and Insurrection. Like first, Data puts in his emotion-chip that leads to uncontrolled bursts of feelings and physically fuses with his brain so it can't be removed. In First Contact he can activate and deactivate it at will. In Insurrection "he didn't take it with him" and in Nemesis a clone of Picard that lived on Remus all the time suddenly has a Soong-android and the time to hide it on some throwback-planet.

Genesis device which was unstable caused Spock's return and rapid growth. It's not a thing they could have normally did but his body was brought back. Data exploded. And the whole B4 thing is a plothole when B4 came before Lore and even Lore and Data had differences in how they were made. (Soong said to Lore that the chip was made for Data and not designed for Lore)

STO is not canon so even if the game says one thing, that is not actual canon. Just like players in TOR think they are Star Wars canon, the illusions of grandeur is strong with game players.

You're leaving out how Dr. McCoy was storing Spock's soul in his brain. Frankly, I find one computer downloading data (get it?) into another computer far more plausible.

um, I'm not saying anything about his being alive seeing that it is cannon that he was, I was only saying I was expecting Data to come into the game as it was implied that He told Sela about her mother.
