I think it would be better to have the competitors not to be able to view the other players progress. That way it makes it more interesting in the end who wins.

And, i and others have noticed that there are a few people that enter the event just sit there and do nothing. Their non-participation and getting something for nothing is not fun but laziness. To remedy this changes should be made.
For example the competitors need to at least gather one part of each (engine, stabilizer, hull) regardless of quality for a minimum daily reward, and for 1st place an extra bonus!

Yup...This event is an AFK magnet and as far as I know doesn't incur the usual AFK penalty.

And before any claims it's hard to get parts. You are guaranteed 1 part in your 3 attempts at 1 pile, providing no-one else has searched in the 30 or seconds beforehand.

You might notice that my character Ashine (green) had a full-purple model, but still scored 19, which is the same as Amag (blue), who had an all-grey model. How are people supposed to care about the quality of their model, if the event itself doesn't care?

it should be if you don't get at least 1 of each part, you fail and don't get any rewards. too many times i've seen people just standing around and not bothering to even make an attempt to participate.
