Ok so I have been playing for about a week. I'm playing as a Vulcan I have the initial ship which I have managed to upgrade weapons and shields to level 2. I am on a mission and I'm up against 4 Orion vessels I have played the scenario at least 5 times and I am getting no where. Can any one give me any pointers?

put your weapons on auto fire, which is right clicking the icon on pc, I don't remember what on console. put max power in weapons.

get science team on your science boff to clear any drains. you can get it from the trainer on earth space dock. get the tactical team and engineering team while your at it. at three at level one.

I'm not sure what else to say for that early in the game. which mission are you having trouble with?

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

Also, make sure you left the difficulty set to NORMAL. Elite is for experienced players!

It can take a bit to get the hang of things, but gets easier with practice  Am assuming your ship is the standard free "Light Cruiser" that has one of each type of console slot and one of each type of bridge officer ability slot, and the mission is "Stranded In Space".

You have 2-3 bridge officers who's default powers will be torpedo high yield one, engineering team 1, and tachyon beam 1. You should use all 3 of these as well as a handy default ability in your powers list which is "distribute shield power". Press P and uncheck the lock box then drag this to your tray. All these abilities can be dragged to your tray via the method above, including your beams and torpedo. Weapons can be set to auto-fire by right clicking them so they turn green.

Spam the distribute shield power (I make it number 3) while taking fire or click on the shield display on the facing shield that's taking fire to keep your shields up as long as possible. Use tachyon beam is to drain the bad guys shields, eng team to restore your hull, and torp high yield to fire several torpedos once the voice says the other guys shields are down as even a little bit of shield will drastically reduce kinetic damage. Use your 2 beams, broadside if possible, to bring shields down first.

Since you have 1 of each type of console slot on your ship put a phaser or generic beam damage console in your tac spot (assumption is you're using phasers). Energy specific tac consoles do more damage than the generic ones. You should be using 1 beam array front and back and one photon torpedo front. In the display that shows your ship's power levels click on the preset that should be labelled attack, this puts most of your power into weapons. You can click on balanced as a defensive mode if needed.

Your engineering console can be anything that provides a damage resist or increases hull regeneration, at this point it doesn't really matter.

The science console can be one of 2 types: 1 provides increases shield regeneration (shield emitter amplifier) , 1 increases shield healing (emitter array). Either are fine. Two others that come to mind are a field generator (shield capacity) or nanite reinforced circuitry (hull regen), put think you'll get a shield emitter amp as a drop or reward first.

Try and get a positron type deflector if you can, this type will make your ship more tanky (durable).

Missions should give you most of what you need as you rank up.

You don't have to spend all your skill points as they are earned. If in doubt, don't (despite the flashing icon urging you to spend them).

Easiest thing to do would be to ask for help in zone chat and team up so you can get through this mission and move along.

If you're in-game drop me a mail or PM to @Protoneous or @consortium#9349 (fleet mailer toon) would be glad to help or even craft you some Mk II purple items to fill your ship.

All the story missions should be do-able with weapons/equipment you loot or get as mission rewards. I'd not bother upgrading or spending a lot of EC on stuff. If you are on normal difficulty, things should go OK for the most part. You'll blow up now and again, but that's about it. I've leveled 8 toons to max and never bothered to worry about my gear till at max level.
