TBH they should rip out daily random dungeon from WOW. (I remember it a very popular thing when it was introduced.) Then give out mark choice pack as reward for it.
Problem is, STO has a different business model. Also instance difficulties are not consistent.
I agree with the OP completely but I gave up hope we ever see a change.
Even though parts of me would love to force peeps more into queues to really earn their rewards I don’t think this is the way to go anymore. Not with this player base. If they made reputation marks for respective queues exclusive again players would simply choose not to do reputations. It’s only natural as none of it is needed for the 90% of non-engaging content this game consists of. Perhaps some would be upset over the missing costume options but that would be it.
Yes that is, of course, the other side of it. Nothing in the game is required for anything.
All the content worth playing is Easy Mode and all the content that would be challenging rewards bunk. New stuff is only better than the old stuff by accident, to be nerfed to the ground as soon they get around to it. The stated intention of the "balance pass" was to get rid of anything players really wanted and were willing to go to great lenghts to acquire. The only reason to even care about builds is to show off on some third-party leaderboards.
I myself have long gotten reputations just for the costume unlocks (and I would totally still do that if they got rid of the mark choices, because costume unlocks are Worth It to me). For that matter, building fleet holdings just to see what they look like when finished. Haven't really been very interested in gear since they removed the fail conditions on Advanced queues.
It's really telling that the unique and superficially highly useful Hidden Payload set ability only got one run of BDA out of me before being forgotten...simply because everything it would be useful for is a) optional and b) not worth playing.
