Maybe if STO focused more on fun factor instead of latest money making offering the money would start rolling in better for them. More bug fixes wouldn't hurt either.

    This ^^

every thing they do is a money grab from some grinding event. Its like someone just sent you an email at work asking you to perform a 14 phase project (i.e. mirror invasion project) that you have to log into the game for 14 days to get a minimal reward... Should be more like 5 million EC considering the cost of worthwhile items on the exchange.. choice of marks that can be saved in a package form for later when the next rep comes out since no one really wants to build new toons and most have all the reps completed.. dual phaser pistols.. meh and whatever else was in it.

Get ready people.. the new year is about to begin.. can anyone guess what the next year will entail? Lets start out of with winter event.. then we'll do the crystalline entity event in spring along with a new rep.. then we'll do risa in the summer.. then we'll do a new skill tree with a new fleet project and then rinse and repeat. Oh Boy! 3 or 4 years running for these? 5?

how many consoles are in the game? how many console slots do we have on our ships?
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Universal_Console
How many starship traits are in the game? How many starship trait slots do we have?
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Starship_traits
How many space traits are in the game? 260 how many space trait slots do we have? 5
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Category:Space_Traits

Think it is time to do a massive sweep of all ships instead of releasing new ___ZEN___ ships with an extra console slot.. again.. another money grab. Cryptic.. people really like to fly older ships too.. not just the new ones you release that basically amount to power creep. They like the canon ships of the game.. not just your artistically inspired ones that we have never seen in a series or movie.

God I wish I controlled cryptic because PWE sucks. This would be a fun game again!

Now let's be honest. Most of the events you mention were, at one time, a change. When they first introduced the Mirror event, it was new. The first Winter event (which is, just like the Summer event, updated each year) was also a change from what we had before it was released. The Breach event was a fun queue (but of course less fun to do it 14 times on multiple characters, so they changed that).

It is easy to complain about the events being rerun over and over again, but they have their reasons for doing this and not re-designing the entire event from scratch. Why would they, when the basic thing is popular enough and some additions are sufficient?

No one is forced to do them more than once anyway and they are changing the events such that you only need to do them once (but of course people keep complaining). As for the traits: yes, you can only use a limited amount but that's logical. It doesn't change anything about the fact that there is a wide variety of abilities and traits to experiment with.
Some traits are expensive, I can get behind that but there's still a lot of opportunities to try out new builds without buying a new ship every month - just look at the specialisations for example, which are released every few months and give plenty of new game play options.

There were times when I was getting bored with the game, but that was because I used to spend almost every minute of free time I had on it. Of course things get boring then after a while, maybe you are in a similar position? I seriously doubt that the complains about repetitiveness and 'repeating the same old stuff' are coming from very casual players. There is enough variety, despite the patterns of releasing more things might be predictable.

I would rather have an event where there is a progression within the same event to harder levels with rewards at the completion of each level, that takes 14 days to complete rather than the same, static event over 14 days for a modest reward that is only worth something to brand new toons. Everyone has their reasons for what they do and knowing cryptic, they did the easiest that causes boring grind, even at once per day while maximizing their profit. By the 14th day, i don't even care if I see Mirror Invasion again.

Yes, traits.. limited amount.. logical, but I think 12 slots for personal (9 for non-alien and 10 for alien currently), and 7 slots for starship, space, ground would be in order at this point.

I just took off 1.5 years of this game due to getting mad at cryptic for the money grabs and grind.. I have been back 2 months having leveled up my toons. Guess you are right and I am already bored again, and that should be a clue to cryptic to stop focusing on what they have been doing, and maybe do something like what I suggested above.

How about developing some type of event that actually surprises us and dynamically changes based upon our dialog choices? Maybe today I choose to help an ally.. may tomorrow I choose to betray them.. maybe the next day I choose to be neutral and each choice makes that event play out differently? No different than some story books for toddlers, right? If Hasbro or matel can do it, then so can Cryptic in STO. But that would involve cryptic making a new template and doing work for what I pay for rather than gluing 2 ships together to make a new one or only allowing a 11 console ship to be purchased with ZEN, or making us buy a ship that we will never use just for the starship trait.

Well pins and crickets. It's the same thing. I set a 1 hour a week limit for myself a little after the 4000 hrs in game was reached. Nowadays 30 min is all I can muster. I don't even think the winter event will draw me out unless the ship is super super OP with the extra console slot from the new muscle ships.

For most players I know playing mmorpgs are not about being satisfied with stuff you need to do ok but rather to strive for what you think is best.

Cryptic always saw to it that the best performing items originated from various sources which clearly involves expensive stuff you can either pay for or have to play very long for in order to obtain.

What’s out of balance in STO is that the content you face is not good enough in order to get where most peeps want to get. This can either be adjusted by making the content more fun or shorten the duration peeps need to endure it.

You're totally correct here, but STO takes the problems a couple steps further.

As you stated, in these type of games striving to improve and polish your performance is a key motivator. The problem with STO is not only the fact that the content does not encourage or promote this improvement, but the development team actually fights against players in this respect. The first big blow was retroactively nerfing certain items and trying to pass it off as being done in the name of 'balance.' In the end, of course it was a lie and really all about just trying to sell more power creep. Nothing has been balanced, just certain items and powers were reduced and new ones sold to replace them. After all this, they then dropped the laughably designed new fleet holding and ignored all player feedback about why this holding was not player friendly.

The game doesn't have an 'end game' per say outside of trying to meet your own performance goals. This ideal however, is derailed by developers who actively fight players in this for the purpose of trying to make more money. Of course, in the end, all they did was drive these players off and completely lose these revenue streams. I don't think the game is 'doomed' by any means, but I do believe it's in the worst state now that I have personally seen it in. The current development staff in charge of STO is frankly doing just about everything possible to drive players from this game. From substandard content, absence of content, or the constant attempts to trick players into spending, I think people are just getting tired of it.

me too.. they either need to close the doors or make a game that the players like to play which does not involve tricking us into buying TRIBBLE because it is "needed".. like a starship we will never use but need the starship trait for our builds. Worst system ever invented!!

And rebuilding an event can take just as much work as a new one. So we can either have Sompek, First Contact Day, and the Kobyashi Maru (in addition to everything else) or simply retakes on the well-worn classics (which Kobyashi incidentally is.) This is a point where gamers need to adjust their expectations. What we want (everything new all the time) can't be made so let's look at how things can be improved (that's feasible for a small dev.)

It is quiet, I just logged in and only 3 folks on from over 2200 in the armada. Sure it gets much busier in the evenings, usually 40 or so online, but many folks are staying away. A big reason for many is the lack of foundry, our fleet for one takes full advantage of the foundry and have many many short events we have written for our own exploration and combat experience, we have been denied all of them for over two months now and folks are starting to get pretty bored of the same old same old. Still STO's "temporarily unavailable foundry" has no news.

the foundry was suppose to go live on Tribble back on the 17th.. did you check that out?

Well hopefully on the content side next year would be better with the new expansion..But The endeavour pop quite easily..And so do RA's and some PvE's regularly..Although the nerf is a pain..We should get a lockbox named after the year of hell, namely, YEAR OF NERF!!

Before the nerf, the max DPS was over 500K, after it, even with all the new shinnies they have added since, it's only around 250k.

They are TOTALLY selling us the power creep back... which is why the power creep is nowhere near what it was with all the new things they have added since!(sarcasm)

Again you have no idea what you talk about.

As elaborated by the tac player who set the S12 record he choose not to pursue a new record during his hosted Diamond is Forever event (so in S14) to give the participants a more reachable perspective.

I recall at least 4 different items which were introduced after the nerf of S13 which begun to close the gap again. They offer power and we take it. It’s business as usual in crypticverse.

Of all the record runs I read so far (or where I was even fortunate to participate in) I carefully estimate from the 40% DPS loss we experienced in S13 we look at more like 20% now. That also corresponds with my own figures on 10 toons on an average.

Your estimations don't change the more reliable numbers seen on the reddit parsers.

For someone who claims others don't know what they are talking about, you seem awfully out of the loop of most everything in the game.

Well perhaps if you find “reddit parsers” (whatever this is supposed to be) more reliable perhaps you should refrain from deriving your conclusions out of 500k+ runs made by the DPS league?

I think it would help players like me who awfully got out of the loop of most everything in the game greatly to get back in. ;)

Got some shopping to do yet, christmas parties to go to, all that good stuff. Thankfully, the daily race for the things needed for the event ship is pretty short and sweet, so shouldn't have much trouble most days at least finding the time for that.

    This is a joke right?

Well yea I’m certainly having a good time with your posts.

The only bad taste to it (and the only reason I even bother replying to you) is the worry that the forum audience might actually believe your assumption that cryptic has stopped handing out power to the player base to boost sales.

I mean set pieces granting more weapons haste, single lobi consoles increasing ship wide acc stats worth 4 whole weapons modifiers or a zen ship trait with the potential to prolong the duration of fire at will by almost 50%. Really makes me wonder how obvious things need to get for some.

Granted, the “rebalance” helps variety in this game (which is good) but this again is just another insurance to have peeps try out different stuff which again costs.

In no way it will help players who did not perform well before the rebalance to perform better now. On the contrary, while only a handful of good items may have been added since we also gotten ten times as much junk making future decisions for players “who just play for fun” without diving deeply into build mechanics all the more difficult.

Except this is objectively untrue as the re-balance only really affected the handful of high tier items that massively boosted DPS, items that the people who had low DPS weren't using, hence their low DPS. Meaning, those with low DPS had no change to how their game played.

Well concluded! For those who do not care about their performance this is hardly of consequence besides empty PvE lists.

Unfortunately for those wish to play a game where the aim is to progress, grow and get better the lesson learned is rather bitter; hence good players like @seaofsorrows leaving to play other games instead of queueing up in STO, hence those who remain being able hear a pin drop.

The PVE lists were already empty before the revamp, with the exception of CCA, and ISA. The revamp did nothing to change that.

And becoming better via the exploitation of obviously broken items, and then getting mad that those broken items were fixed, is no one's fault but your own. The only "lessen" learned there was the same lesson as every other MMO, which is the devs will nerf over-performing items at some point, so don't become dependent on them. If you hadn't learned that by now, MMOs shouldn't be your game of choice.

Stop blaming the devs for your own poor actions and decision making.

The time it takes to queue up for any PvE (not counting current event) is roughly 4-6 times as long it has been before S13, same counts for trying to find peeps for organizing a private runs in the available PvE channels. The TSC feels almost completely dead at times. I play roughly a dozen PvE each day and those who do as well should be able to share this experience.

The items that you define broken have been available for years, some as far back as when I started to play this title in spring 2012. I think we even saw changes to core abilities dating back to the beginning of STO.

I’m not “mad” at anybody; I’m also not placing any judgement over what stuff is legit to use. I just *try* to explain to you why players lost trust and confidence in this game and choose to leave.

Sadly we talk about the group of players here I wish to play a game with because they are the ones interacting and bringing live to a mmorpg making it unable to hear any pin drops.

    Yawn. Another "DOOM!" thread.

I wonder why some of these people even bother playing this game if they hate it, Cryptic, the Devs, these forums, the people who post in these forums, Republicans, Democrats, puppies, kittens... Or are they simply acting out for the attention it garners them?

Plenty of other ways to get either a daily MMO or a Star Trek fix out there.
