You must be very lucky with your matches then! I've only had it survive about twice, and that's with at least 4 people playing. I presume you don't bother with the defences and solely focus on closing the rifts?

That would kill MIA. I've played something like 100 MIA matches and the starbase has survived once at most. Since you can't keep the starbase alive AFKing is the only way of playing it.

Said it before, if the Starbase hits Zero HP that should be a fail, game over, adios. Only way to deter AFK'ers after that is by a subroutine that can detect them whilst playing live and auto-kick by itself. It's outrageous that people think they shouldn't have to wait 12 minutes for a taxi to show up! I don't see people screaming at Amazon because of their time-gates!

EVERY game I've played we've kept the SB functional. That's due to at least 4 people actually playing the game.

True, you don't often see people complain about waiting 12 minutes for a taxi. But then you don't often see people demanding others waiting for a taxi have to participate in parlor games or be kicked out of the line, either.

And the only people doing any screaming here are the people who demand others must do what they want. Those of us who skip the optionals are quite happy to do it in peace.

On the other hand, videogames are supposed to be entertainment and I'd wager waiting for a taxi is not the kind of activity most people think of as entertaining. I certainly don't. Cryptic could do better to emulate something more interesting.

I'm sorry, but it just doesn't wash. It's AFK'ers purposefully ruining missions. It's circumventing a mechanic. It's lazy cheating. It's actually entertaining to actually fight and do the objectives. It's not entertaining to sit there do nothing because you disagree with an objective.

If the mission failed because the station HP hit zero, then there would be less complaining and more doing. I cannot and will not accept people cheating and exploiting the system to get a limited time shiny.

Why? That's above many casual players. You only need an average of about 10K dps to complete an ISA with optional successfully.

because , you know, "L33t" and all that other TRIBBLE. STO is only for the SPECIAL players who have little to no life off the computer

it does help if people just followed the briefs.. a sci ship should hit the rifts they close faster. Engys go to the sats and the sexcorts hit the ships. but hell what do i know. i'm just a 10k DPSer that should be kicked before the game even loads

You could study ways to improve your performance on both the build part and the piloting part. With the actual conditions 10k is a minimal sign of participation and relevance spacewise. There are people on ground who dps around 5k...

How do AFKers ruin your mission? The first stage is optional - it's a timegate that offers mark rewards and nothing else. In almost every match I've played the starbase died. Once you accept that you can't beat the first stage it becomes apparent that AFKing is the only way to win it - save your time and go do something else. Sure it costs you a few marks but it's worth it.

If the mission failed when the station HP hit zero people would simply stop playing MIA. People cannot and will not accept a mission that is unwinnable. Why play when you cannot win?

Here is where irony and perversity rear their heads: If there was a fail condition for "station dies", AFK would become the ONLY sane way to play, because AFK actually maximizes station survival. If everyone sits and cloaks quietly and doesn't move, the NPCs don't aggro and everything stays relatively calm. Churning the waters and aggroing everything on the map with station upgrades = guaranteed station death.

OK, I've never AFK'd this event, so forgive my ignorance. You're saying that if NO ONE powers the collectors, closes rifts, or shoots ships, the Terran ships that spawn don't fly towards and attack the station at all? What, they just orbit their spawn locations and then disappear when the clock runs out?

If you're AFK'ing the first part, you are not playing in the spirit of gaming and in effect 'cheating' to get that shiny by circumventing the AFK penalty. Alot of other games have a system managed 'auto-kick' that detects when you are AFK'ing and will kick you from the mission, even if you're using bots, macros or auto-fire. You AFK because you don't like the time gate, you are in effect cheating, end of. MI is one of the best mission events that I love when we have a good team in a PUG. It's extremely rare to actually lose the station, but even one AFK'er can ruin the run completely, especially when he's spending more time trolling the people actually playing 'that he's spending his time doffing'. That's not in the spirit of gaming.

If you want players to do what you want, set up your own private match. In pugs you're nobody's boss and everyone will play how they want.

We skip the optionals because they're optional. "Optional," in case you don't know, means "left to one's choice; not required or mandatory."

Not like ssbn has ever been all that rational, see his continued delusion that he somehow has more say on Discovery being Trek than the people who own the franchise.

What spirit of gaming? If the station cannot be saved then why waste time attempting the impossible?

As for other games kicking players who AFK for a particular time period, some games replace them with AI, and allow them to rejoin the match. Is that what you want? Doesn't really change the dynamic.

I generally don't get good PUGs so with a bunch of toons it's a nightmare to play.

You seem to be demanding that folk play the game the way you want it played. Sadly for you it doesn't work that way. If you want to complain try whinging about those folk who quit partway through the mission.

There should simply be an incentive that discourages AFKing. You do less, you get less... If you want to get points/marks, you alone should be responsible for th amount you get...not the team.

also, I utterly dislike the fact, that we get interrupted when we get hit...utter nonsense and adds further nuisance to an already boring mission.

kick function is out of the question in STO jusging by the toxicity of the forums and zone chat alone.

Do you even understand the word "optional" which means not doing them is NOT cheating, plus if they are doing the other parts of the mission, if they are still using skills, firing weapons etc then they are not AFK as in they are not Away From Keyboard.
