Console PS4) Can we zoom in close like PC in space

Been trying to find out if console players can zoom in close to our ships for more detailed capture shots or to just enjoy your ships beauty. I would love to have the same type of camera/zoom in features like the PC. I understand some features would be hard to translate from pc to console, but detailed camera options don't seem like that much of a problem. Anyone out there feel the same way???

FINALLY someone with me, I have been trying to gain some traction on this issue but it seems like no one else cares. With you on my team I feel more confident in starting a new thread for this issue.

i totaly agree! a zoom feature would be very nice..
in general, the camera need some improvement.
i also would like to move the camera around my avatar and see his front side.
    pls, make this possible, cryptic

edit: also sometimes in ground battle, while aming, the camera looks at the ground or to high

i am sure, most people agree with us ;)
who doesn't want to have more camera options??
we maybe just have said everything yet, thats needed to be said..
nevertheless.. it is very frustrating.. the ps4-ui never gets any improvements.. and there would be a lot to improve, imo

Finally. I've been trying to find a place to express my same frustration with the limited camera distances. For smaller ships it's Like you're flying an ant. That should not be acceptable for a game that heavily promotes flying your own star trek ship. The main focus of the game is space Combat and exploration.... I want to explore all the systems but I'm too busy squinting at my big screen tv to see as much detail as Possible on a ship I used zen.... (a real Money currency) to buy! I love this game but for the love of kirk improve the camera options. More distance options at the very least. For a respectable fix, add a zoom feature and the ability to swing the camera around your character to see his or her uniform better. Help us enjoy the fantasy more. Please.
Ps... Do Devs actually read these?

Unfortunately i have given up on this issue because seems to me the devs just don't care about things like this on the console's or console player's period i have hope thats not case but at this point who knows. I also have a problem with not being able access crew decks in your ships on the console's no fix on this has left me very frustrated and forced me to take a break from the game for a while. Don't think anything will be done for console's in these matters I am very disappointed these options have not been updated.
    Im losing faith.
    What can we do?

I too have been extremely frustrated and disappointed by this FOR YEARS! I recall when I first starting playing STO on Xbox that zooming in and out from your starship in orbit was either smoother or allowed you to get much closer in. I feel like it changed to the three views available now when they started introducing larger ships to command—the zoom settings seemingly configured specifically for larger ships, and even then inconsistently.

I don't know how the (I'm assuming very old) code of STO works (I'm not a developer), but I'd think it'd be a relatively simple thing to program the zoom to be a smooth zoom in and zoom out using the triggers or bumpers while in orbit where you can't fire your weapons anyway.

Is it impossible for them to introduce something similar to Forzavista in the Forza Horizon series? Maybe even have the camera automatically start showing some close-up drifting beauty shots of your ship if you sit idle for a while. When you hit X or whatever to enter STO-vista, the game could isolate your ship in orbit wherever it is minus the other player and NPC ships and let you use the triggers and thumb sticks to move the camera around your ship however you want, getting as close or as far away as you want.

Or even if it is easier or better from a coding or processing perspective to have three set zoom distances to toggle through, configure them to show the ship players are currently commanding at percentages of the screen width rather than set distances from the center of the ships themselves like it seems to work now. For instance, maximum zoom in could be close enough for the entire length or width of the ship (whichever is greater) to appear 90% of the total screen width. Maximum zoom out could show the ship no smaller than 25% of the screen width. A middle zoom of 50% should work well too. Those same ranges could be used for combat as well.

I don't know what the five of us posting here can do to get the devs to address this at all (I don't know if they read these comments). Like you, my interest in the game (not explicitly because of this issue) has ebbed and flowed over the years. I'm currently enjoying a renewed interest because I still enjoy the puzzle of re/configuring starships and piloting them in battle. Considering it's been four years since the last post on this thread however, I don't even know if any of you are even still playing STO.

Regardless, it's clear that the devs are not at all likely to introduce a rebuilt-from-the-ground-up-with-new-code version of STO that's optimized for the latest console systems, so you'd think the least they could do is offer better zoom options for their existing player base, even if for no other reason than to show off the fine details of the great looking ships they offer.

    Maybe one day.

UPDATE: I submitted a ticket to Arc Games Support requesting the devs address or improve the zoom feature in STO for console to make it work like the PC version or along the lines I described above.
