Best way to deck out the Marauder FDC

So, I've almost got all my Fed and Fed-aligned characters decked out in all the gear I want/need for their builds. Where I'm hesitant is my Orion flying the Marauder. I've always wanted to place an Orion in this ship since I got it in an anniversary giveaway years ago. This year, I took the time to level one up and get this ship to T5U.

My problem is this: Which reputation set and build would actually benefit this ship the most. Her skill build is set for an engineering-heavy build with attention paid to hanger health and hanger weapons, so no problem there. I originally wanted to put the Terran set on her, but after I got started on that I realized that it is geared toward buffing Torpedoes. I could still do that, I suppose, but doing so would mean giving up TT1 as the sole Tactical position for the ship only has two skill slots. I'm not really sure how good of an idea that is.

The easy answer, of course, would be to place her in the Vorgon Ryn'kodan with a full Nukara build. It is, indeed, a superior engineering carrier, but that also means sacrificing my Orion theme. It's still on the table, though.

Bearing in mind that she's not in a fleet (nor is she likely to be; I don't want to split time between a KDF fleet and the Fed fleet all my other characters are in) so fleet gear is out, I'm looking for advice. Is there a decent and plausible way to deck out the Marauder? Or would my time be better spent grinding CCA and putting her in a tetryon build for the Vorgon Carrier?

Edit: Nevermind. I've pretty much answered my own question and will be grinding out Nukara rep pieces for the next few days. Still rather curious as to what other people do for their Marauders, though. I don't think I've seen much of anything out there besides the occasional turret build.

Unless pvping the ico 3 pice or 4 piece or nukara/rom classic are fine for normal builds that want to do damage, which is pretty much the thing that matters.

That's a given. Question is, does everyone go all beams on the Marauder or is there a more effective way to build it?

It's pretty much a beamboat, a realtively low tier one too. Sure you could mix in some special torps but since you only have 1 lt. tac seat your options of offensive support are extremely limited, same story for sci.
On the bright side, you've got enough engi seats to put pretty much every power in there. DEM, Aux2sif, EPtW, RSP, ET, EIB and much more.
Once used mine on a orion character as a beamboat and then I remembered that all the event ships can be used at 40. So that thing got scrapped in favor of a risian cruiser. :D

Unfortunately, my options for cruisers are rather limited, and her skill trees were designed around carriers, anyway. I may have to take a hard look at the new T6 Orion FDC at some point. The trait by itself seems interesting. In the meantime, I can go ahead and deck out the Vorgon carrier for a decent tetryon build.

Personally i have used the Marauder with beams, cannons and as a torpedo boat.
With only 2 (3 on the T5U) tactical consoles it doesn't have the raw firepower of a Kolashi or Kurak, but it is far from weak.

The marauder has strong science for its boff slots and due to that science the marauder can make its presence felt on the battlefield. Assuming you have the greedy emitter trait you can use tachyon beam or energy siphon in addition to Gravity Well and TR and FBP to grab attention to yourself and retaliate in the process.

In a marauder you have some bulk so you better use that bulk to let your pets do their thing.
It is up to you if you want to go DPS pets (swarmers), disable/support with marauding force or cannon build with Orion pets.
Each have their pro and cons, but they operate best when there is a ship drawing attention away from them.

Remember that FDC are unconventional ships so conventional DPS builds may not be suited for this ship.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Interesting. I have been running an Aux2Bat build on it with all beams, including the Terran beam and the Nausican beam. I may just have to take a look at doing something different there, especially if I'm going to change my science powers. Thanks for the tip. :)

Edit: I'm guessing Greedy Emitters are a C-Store starship trait (or from a lockbox ship). Only c-store ships I have available are from the anniversary giveaways (Marauder, B'Rel) and some event ships (Both Vorgon ships, Risa escort, Dyson Destroyer, Breen Chel Boalg). I was thinking about buying some more ships at some point in the future anyway.

Edit 2: Ok, looking over what I can do... The Marauder cannot slot Gravity Well. That would take a Lt. Commander station for Science, which it doesn't have. It can, however, slot Tyken's Rift. Given that I put two points into Drain, this is likely a good idea.

Dropping the Aux2Bat idea, that opens me up to slotting Aux2SI and Emmit Unstable Warp Bubble. Still need to choose one more skill to put in the second Aux2Bat's place, but I'll figure it out. Gonna try to forgo TT1 in favor of TS1 with the Martok set.

Greedy emitters is from the ferengi 2015 summer event ship

In case you do not have the ferengi ship, the traits from the krenim or lukari science event ships can be used with one boosting the FBP and the other boosting ship restoration.

New Post to prevent the edit from eating all.
If you have the breen ship, then that trait can also be quite useful with energy siphon.

Thank you. I wasn't around in 2015 or during Delta Rising, much to my regret. But I do have the breen ship and may just have to unlock it's trait to use.

Yeah, been around since season 5 (?) just before the 2800 arc was released and sometimes forget that others have not been around for ages. :pensive:

If you are still leveling and gathering equipment then perhaps you should test the breen set:
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Breen_Absolute_Zero

While it is being overshadowed by newer sets and rep gear it is still a good build when fighting a lot of Dominion or Vaadwaur.

Energy Siphon can be pretty effective when invested in drain expertise and drain infection.

Like with most science skills and abilities though it is not the easiest to master.

Actually, I've been around off and on since F2P. I just didn't get to be here those years. As for ship set, right now I'm using the Aegis set on the Marauder until I can decide which reputation set to actually go after. So far it's a choice between the Honor Guard set, 2-piece Nukara with Rom Engines, or Iconian set.
