I went to play Sompek but when I tried to communicate with my team I discovered I'd been silenced. What is it and how does it happen? Is it a glitch? Another thread suggested it's a 24 hour effect, but the problem is if that's the case, I'd been offline for at least 4 hours, and probably closer to 8 when I was silenced. And since I was busy trying to work out what was up, and why I couldn't communicate with my team, I got assigned an AFK penalty which puts paid to today's Sompek attempt - I'm not waiting 2 hours to try again! Anyone able to explain?

Is it possible you said something in zone that got enough people to report you? I don't know any other reason for the silence penalty, but there might be one I don't know about.
From everything I have heard, yes.. it lasts for 24 hours.
If you didn't do anything offensive, then it's probably a false positive. Sucks, but as far as I know, all you can do is wait it out. By the time support saw your ticket the 24 hours would already be over.
you may need to end up becoming more forthcoming regarding what you were doing just before the ban.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
> Like sea said, you could have been reported for spamming. You could have also said something REALLY bad as well. I mean something worse than what you hear is ESD all the time. I mean it is really rare for them to silence over that...but even they have limits.

Too bad that feature doesn't work on individuals
i want to be clear i'm not suggesting anything of the sort, i would like to find out the cause and at the time if you did have a chat ban it would only last so long same as what seaofsorrows mentioned earlier. I would of liked a fuller account of what potentially caused it rather than pointing to anything specific.
if you felt i acted in bad faith i am sorry for that.

Automated systems are like that some times. You can ask Youtubers where nearly all their videos has been systematically demonetized (meaning no ads for those videos) by Youtube's algorithms designed to make Youtube a more acceptable medium for advertisers.

> Wow, way to show off your stupid. Silence exactly works on individuals. It stops individuals from talking in zone chat. I know you seem hell bent on following me to try and make it look like I am stupid, but all you are doing is showing off how little you know...or can even do BASIC logical deduction. But seriously, this comment makes no sense. If you meant something else...well, the fact that your school failed you miserably ain't my fault (assuming english speaking nation of course). Although I am thinking the school maybe forgiven in this case. There is just a level of stupid that nobody can fix...and you sir maybe that level.
You don't make any sense. By the way you're stupid anyways. Your just in denial.

Hahahaha. Now that's funny
Now, as to the original posting: Sometimes the autoban can catch the wrong thing, or the system can be gamed by someone who might have something against you or might just be enlisting their buddies to prank folks. It used to be that you could buy an autoban from chat for a mere five reports of spamming, or ten of misconduct; now, as I understand it, it's twenty and twenty-five, and they all have to be from within the same 24-hour period.
Even I've been caught by that - I had my account suspended because I'd reported someone advertising a goldseller site, and someone mistakenly included my account name in the subsequent permaban. Fortunately, once I was able to bring this to the attention of CS (not as easy a feat as it should have been, but one does what one must), it was ironed out in about a week. (They had to make sure I really was innocent of all charges, after all...)
Appears to be gone now but I'll keep an eye on things. If it happens again I can always contact support.

Just another empty threat.

Oh I forgot to close out Reddit.
Oh and Twitter does work with just a bookmark.
