Question on Phoenix pack

I bought Star Trek Online when it first came out. I played about 4 months then got bored, and stopped playing (mainly because Klingon side I got lost what to do, and Federation side back then I got to a point where I didn't know where to go to progress).

I decided to give it a try again, and have been pleased with the story, etc. I am only level 19 with a TOS captain though. However, I have looked over the various T6 ships, and the ones that really interest me are the Breen ones. Those episodes of DS9 I loved.

So here is my question. If I actually buy Phoenix packs, will I be able to get an epic token that I just won't be able to redeem until I hit 60? Or will it only scale rewards to what I can use currently? Also, the sale of these boxes ends tomorrow, will I still be able to redeem the tokens? (If the answer is yes, you might say obviously. But I have to ask. Star Trek Timelines, if you purchase event packs, if you don't open them the week of the event, then they disappear on you. So before I purchased anything, I want to make sure I would be able to get the reward I was looking for and they won't just disappear Friday on me).

I think you can fly t6 ships starting at like lv 40 or 50.

Anyway they made the lv50-60 leveling 10 times faster than it used to be, its even faster than some of the previous levels now i think.

Thank you. It does seem quicker. But my question still remains.

My maximum captain is only level 19. The Phoenix box sale ends tomorrow. If I purchase Phoenix boxes, with only being level 19, will I even be eligible for an Epic token? And if I am, can I save the token until I turn level 40 or 50 when the prizes will be marked as usable?

I don't want to spend money in the morning on something that would never be able to give me what I am looking for, or something that has a limited time of use.

    So a few things here.

First, if you're not sure about eligibility for receiving an epic token from a Phoenix Box, you can get some boxes and just sit on them unopened until you're max level. They'll never disappear from your inventory, and the tokens themselves will always be good, even after the event has passed.

Second, the chances of receiving an epic token are phenomenally low. So chances are you're going to feel like you've wasted your time and resources on this no matter what. Though that being said, the Phoenix upgrades you can buy with uncommon tokens are probably the best prizes in the pack.

Third, there will probably be a new Breen ship this coming winter. Speculation is that it'll be a T6 version of the raider from a few years ago. So even if you don't get an epic token, you'll still have a chance to fly around and Breen it up.

the tokens dont expire and it's all random so you can buy as many phoenix boxes and open em all up... chance of getting a T6 epic is low... very low. expect to get 1 out of a 1000. course that is just the odds... you could end up with nada but some ultra rares for T5 ships.

If you somehow get an epic prize token, I guess to can claim the ship, but you will not be able to command it. Be aware that ultra rare and epic prize tokens are extremely hard to get. One person complained about opening over 1,200 packs and did not even get an ultra rare prize token. If you are only interested in getting ships and nothing else, then just be prepared for disappointment.

Prize packs can be opened at any time. Tokens can be redeemed at any time. I buy the packs to get the Phoenix Upgrade Kits. Gear can now be upgraded to epic quality and Mk XIV. Do some research on how to upgrade before actually attempting to do so. A very quick and dirty guide is as follows:

    - Only use Superior Upgrade Kits to get the most Tech Points for the refined dilithium it will cost you to apply these kits.
    - Different types of gear requires different types of kits. Beam for beam weapons and tactical consoles. Cannon for cannon weapons and tactical consoles. Ground for all armor and hand held weapons. Etc.
    - Upgrade kits can be crafted (if you have the materials and appropriate crafting school level)
    - Kits can be purchased from the Exchange. For example search for Superior Beam, Superior Cannon, Superior Ground, etc.
    - Superior Kits gives 12,800 Tech Points and costs 1,075 refined Dil to apply.
    - Use accelerators to get extra Tech Points or improve chance of quality improvement.
    - Tech Boosts increase Tech Points from upgrade kits by 1.5x or 2x. Do a search for "1.5x t" or "2x t".
    - Quality Boosts increases the chance to improve quality when upgrading by either 1.5x or 2x. Do a search for "1.5x q" or "2x q".
    - The higher the Mk level the lower percentage of a possible quality upgrade.
    - The higher the quality level the lower percentage of a possible quality upgrade.

    Here's a video about upgrading.

They work like Lobi crystals - right click on a token to open up the store. The store is there forever not just during the events.

Thanks everyone, but seems like it is a moot point all the questions. This is the one thing that I really wanted. So I bought Zen, intended on transferring that to Dil. Nope. Since I am a returning customer with no purchase history the last couple years, my account was suspended from the exchange while I am in probation. Meaning all that cash I put in, it will take up to 10 days to release. Phoenix boxes will not be for sale by then, and I will have $100 sitting in my account not being used but I cant get back.

This isn't a great welcome back as far as customer service goes...

Yeah, chances of getting an epic or UR token is really low. I opened several hundred boxes this time around and only got one epic and three UR. The rest was uncommon, rare and VR.

Though after getting a few things I wanted I just downgraded most of my tokens to uncommon and got the upgrades on a toon who needed some upgrading done and I'm glad I did.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

The drop rates may be low, but I was willing to drop what I had to for the 4 Breen ships. The carrier with the Breen console set would have provided a different type of playstyle that intrigued me. Otherwise, I'm not all that fussy over what T6 ship I fly. I expanded my duty officers by 100. Bought about 5 of the Fed duty officer packs. Expanded my inventory slots by 24. But that is about it. Just quality of life stuff. The rest of the 96,000 is just sitting in my account, because nothing else is jumping out at me as a must have.

Took me about 1600 to get 1 UR token (over the last 3 phoenix box events).

Rest of the tokens I received were Very rare or lower.

The odds are worse then for obtaining a Lockbox ship ! (If you can believe it).

I guess this whole thing was meant as a Dilithium sink primarily, IE; the super low drop rates for Ultra and Epic tokens.

And if your heart is set on an Epic token... be prepared to fork over multiple MILLIONS of REFINED dil to get even 1 ultra or Epic token, and even then ... nothing is guaranteed.

my odds so far... 1 UR out of 1600 boxes...
Let that sink in before you throw all your precious dil away.

No breen ship is worth that much.

The Phoenix Prize Pack event will return. When is unknown though. Perhaps towards the end of the year. There is no clear pattern since this is only the 3rd time we had the event. I suppose the only silver lining is the Dil exchange rate will likely go back up to 300:1 sometime after the event ends. During a ship sale the Dil exchange should go up a little more. That would be the best time to use your Zen to buy Dil since a ship sale increases demand for Zen.

In the mean time just enjoy the game with what you have and do a bit of Dil grinding to build up your stockpile of Dil. You'll need that for upgrades anyway. Think of it this way, if you grind and refined 40,000 Dil per week that means on a weekly basis you can save up enough Dil to buy 10 Phoenix Prize Packs the next time the event returns (around Christmas would be nice).

best advice i can give you is get about 40 boxes in total and open them up , if your not a lucky chap like most of us you still should get enough tokens to get the rest of usefull stuff in the boxs . the rest convert to pheonix upgrades so you can get mk IV gear when you hit 60. really unless your insane dont buy anymore than that . your luck will either be in or not

Star Trek Timelines, when I started that game, and when I still had so many crew I didn't have, to catch up, I was spending at least $600 a week. For the Breen ships, I was willing to do what I had to. I seriously don't have much interest in anything else, so yeah, the Zen will probably sit for quite a while. Just playing the game is fine for me, and there aren't any really must haves. I guess I will wait for the event to return at the end of the year. But I was kind of shocked that you give Cryptic money and they suspend your account for 10 days as part of a fraud prevention mechanism. I've played plenty of games, and never had a company do that before. It is a very strange business model, welcoming the customer by saying "Hey, you gave us money, but we don't know if we can trust you. We will just hold onto your money for 10 days to see if you are good for it...". If Steam has dealt with me in the past, Steam trusts me and I have a good history with them, and this was paid for via Steam wallet, I see this as more bad customer experience than actually preventing fraud. It certainly doesn't stop a hacker from stealing another active persons Steam account and using it fraudently. And from a new customer perspective, this is like walking into your local Best Buy and having the store detective follow 5 steps behind you throughout your entire time in the store.

I know. This has veered off topic. But still to me, it is a very weird business model to apply to new customers in a free to play game...

That does suck, but they'll bring the Phoenix packs back eventually, so you'll still have a shot at getting the ships you want.

The epic token I have no need for, since I got all the ships in that category. The II tokens are pretty cool, snagged one the other night, and the only tough part is Bug Ship or Bulwark? :o

Bug ship... if you ever get a dominion carrier, you cant buy frigate pets without a bug ship.

The epic are nifty even if you have all the ships, since you can convert them into 2 x UR. If you had an epic you wouldn't have to choose -- "why not both?"

    1. Bulwark has a better Admiralty card
    2. Bulwark has a console, the T5 bugship does not
    3. If you actually want a bugship, the T6 is better

The first time around on the Phoenix Boxes I got 2 II's. I already had the Bug Ship on another character, so I chose the Bulwark for my Voth character. I'm holding onto the other II in case they add more ships to that category.

OP, this latest Phoenix promo is the third one we've had since the Phoenix Box was introduced back in December 2016. I wouldn't be surprised to see it make a return again this winter. Keep on the lookout and your Zen ready. ;)

Sorry to hear about the freeze. I got something similar for buying the LTS. But you have $100 sitting in the account. You could buy keys and sell them to get another ship from the exchange. Or go three way and open boxes for lobi. with luck buy a lobi ship you can sell for even more on the exchange to afford something else you might like.

Or do as Baddmoonrizin said and hold onto it. What has happened before shall happen again.
