I'm speaking specifically of the Na'kuhl Acheros Battlecruiser and the Herald Vonph Dreadnought Carrier. I own both because I bought them on whims after realizing they were so cheap (since they were the Ultra Rare ships from their boxes I never expected to see them so low).
The Acheros is friggin' good, with a desireable weapon slot layout, a turn rate that almost makes using beams a hindrance, battle cloak, and an awesome Boff layout too.
The Vonph is admittedly kinda huge, but is still a great ship with an awesome, Tactically heavy Boff layout and a good weapon layout, not to mention very good hanger pets.
All this is my own opinion from my own use of them of course, but on paper these ships are really good. Is the lack of a 4th Tac console on the Acheros and the size of the Vonph (the only downsides I can see) really enough to make the prices tank so much?
Why does no one want them?
Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

I have the Archeros and it is a good little ship. I can't understand why it's not more popular. A fast battle cruiser with a battlecloak built in and a pretty good set of stats for that price seems a steal to me. Even the pilot abilities you can use are quite good once you get used to them. Hold it together is quite nifty and lock trajectory is nice if you want to cannon it up.
As for the Vonph. The trait alone is pretty good I hear so it's a good ship to pick up for that. Plus it's cheaper than some T5 lockbox ships now which is crazy.
It could be the looks, since "Space Barbie is the real endgame."
Fair point. I suspect this is the case for a larger number of the player base than we might expect. Or maybe we do expect it

Well, I can only speak for myself here.. but on the Vonph.. I just hate the way it looks. I think it's a cool design for a ship, and it's great as an NPC 'baddie' to fight.. but I have no desire to fly one. It's so large, it can often obstruct your view when playing and it's just a big, bulky mess. Now, some people like huge ships.. so great.. because outside of it's looks, it's a very good ship.
The Acheros.. I honestly have no idea why it's not more popular. The only downside I can really find is it only has 3 tactical consoles which is a bit of a put off for a ship of it's class.. but I wouldn't think that would be enough to devalue it so much. The Acheros has a great BoFF layout, 5 forward weapons, access to Intel, it's a great ship for the 85M it's currently going for.
Both ships are a steal at under 90M, anyone looking for a new ship without breaking the bank.. it's a good deal.

Yeah, I just rolled a KDF toon that I'm planning on using fast battlecruisers on (the fleet Qib will be his first endgame) and I'm actually considering buying another Acheros for him because of the price. It would be the first time I've ever done that.

The reason those two ships are as cheap as they are is because those two are the ONLY choices for the Ulta-Rare ship pack from Infinity boxes. The real 'grand prize' from Infinity boxes is the normal T6 prize pack.
The Archeros I can speak and vouch for because I currently fly one. It's true, the 3 tactical consoles do leave a bit to be desired. However, with access to OSS and stacking various sets you can offset it into a pretty decent attack ship(that's as durable as a cruiser, but as agile as an escort). It is a genuinely enjoyable ship to fly around(especially with cannons), and I don't really think there's a way to quantify that feeling. Anyone who loved the feeling of the vorcha/torkaht back in the day, will undoubtedly enjoy the Acheros(you could even slot Lock Trajectory if you wanted to go full powerslide-mode on it).
My ONE complaint about the ship, and all Na'kuhl vessels, is they are incredibly noisy in sector space(their glowing engine 'lanterns' emit a lot of noise). The other 'potential' drawback is that visual customization is very awkward on Na'kuhl ships. Their red-ish gradient hull is permanant fixture and all sets applied to it also adhere to that style(it's like they apply a 'filter' to the hull, but it will ALWAYS be a gradient red-gold). If you get any of their ships, go into it with the intent of using those colors.
The reason those two ships are as cheap as they are is because those two are the ONLY choices for the Ulta-Rare ship pack from Infinity boxes. The real 'grand prize' from Infinity boxes is the normal T6 prize pack.
But shouldn't that make them more expensive, being so rare? Or is it a lot of people put them on the exchange hoping to flip them, and the market is flooded?
I'll admit, a deep understanding of market economics sometimes eludes me.

The reason I've never purchased/flown either one is I have far too many ships already. I think I average about a dozen or so ships per character. Really too many for me to learn to use well at this point. I'm also sort of a purist. I prefer my Starfleet chars fly Starfleet ships, my KDF chars in Klingon ships, and my sole Rommie flies nothing but Warbirds. The ships you've mentioned, OP, are fine ships and both look like they'd be very enjoyable to use. But they're not my cuppa. I am glad they're ingame and other players enjoy them though. IDIC and all that stuff.
One of my concerns with having so many ships is playing them well. I intensely dislike being carried by others in any STF or playing PvP poorly enough where I am a detriment to my team rather than an asset. I'd much rather use a T5-U to the maximum of it capabilities because I am very familiar with the ship than do simply okay with a LockBox or Fleet T6 ship.
I also admit to being perverse enough I will use ships and weapons others in these forums dislike. I have a T6 Morrigu kitted out completely with Nukara Rep gear and anything else which improves Tetryon. Simply because someone once told me I was wasting my time with Tetryon, because "Everyone who knows anything at all about this game uses nothing but Anti-Proton, n00b!" It was very...satisfying to go five and oh and make that player rage quit a PvP match.
Which brings me to my point. If you think you'll like the ships you mentioned, get them. If you find them fun to fly and using them makes you play the game longer and more enjoyably, you've made the correct purchase. Pay no attention to people who disparage your choices. Advice from people should be considered just advice. Especially advice from crusty old salts like me, lol. Despite what the so-called 'experts' say there really isn't one best ship or weapon system. The true experts and excellent players of STO learned a long time ago it is the player, not the ship or gear, which is the ultimate decider of whether or not a ship is good or worth purchasing.
I'd take it as a personal favor if you purchase and used both ships. From the tone of your post it sounds like your mind was already made up and you are here looking for some external validation. My opinion is you don't need any. You are smart and experienced enough to make good chioces for yourself. Go and purchase the ships and enjoy them like you think you will.

They arent rare at all.
Lets say the odds of winning the UR ship are 2x as difficult as winning the normal t6 ship.
Over the course of say a month, 1000 t6 ships are won and 500 UR ships are won.
The 1000 t6 ships are divided between like a dozen or more diffrent choices, lets say 20 choices, so you end up with 50 of each ship on the market per month.
The 500 UR ships are divided between only two choices, so you end up with 250 of each ship on the market per month.
After 2 months there are 100 of each t6 ship won, and 500 of each UR ship won.
It may not really be 100/500 etc, but whatever the number is, you'll end up with like 5x more of each UR ship than you do of each t6 ship.
The super jackpot lockbox experiment didnt work with infinitization at all. Maybe if they'd made the odds of winning them astronomically small, like 1/2000, it would have preserved their high prices and rarity, but they sadly they didnt
Ok that makes sense. So I suppose BEFORE they were added to the Infinity boxes, when they were new, they probably were just as expensive (or higher) than the regular T6 prize.
Also, it just occurred to me that might be why they haven't come up with another ultra rare prize

Besides what @repetitiveepic said, no idea why the Acheros is so cheap.
For the Vonph, a reason may be that it's very difficult to handle though. It's very, very slow. Even with some of the console-related turn boosts, a filled Pilot tree and the Delta reputation trait plus some turn consoles, it's very difficult to fly this thing.
It also doesn't help that it has a weird shape; when you think you are facing your enemies, you're usually actually looking down on them or overlooking them so to say.
It has a nice console and a nice trait, but the ship itself is just terrible to fly.

33 drops compares to 138, but as they are being spread 2 ships against 19 ships, it means any individual lockbox T6 is in fact much rarer. Once no longer the current lockbox anyway.
Vonph is ugly. The archeros looks fine but sounds annoying.
Ditto.
Why bother with battle cloak when your opponent can hear your approach from 15-20 Km away...
I also never bothered to pick them up because they simply are not a match for my characters. I'd rather fly a Phantom, Mat'Ha or Faeht .

They both got a discomforting double-disadvantage.
The Acheros is an amazing 5-3 battlecruiser with a mediocre Ship Trait and a Cruiser's console output. Fairly good, but also disadvantaged by its looks. The ships are overly expensive usually. They make the users revert to C-store ships which heavily top most of the lockbox choices, regardless of the paper-calculations. The flagships and the battlecruisers from FED/KDF/ROM are hands down the best choice and the best ships in the game atm.
The Vonph looks cool on paper, but horrifying in the realistic manner. It barely moves, it barely turns and it looks bad. Heraldish, but bad.
Prices will plummet since the lockbox ships mainly are becoming just trait-carriers You buy them for a console or for a trait. The only way to achieve space-diversity is to make them more price-approachable. Which is happening now. Upp-ing the prices is not valid since the Infinity lockbox will keep on spawning those ships. You just gotta invest your lobi smart. Or help your newer fleetmates with your lobi, if you're such a space-rich individual.

I only use ships that are appropriate to the faction or, in the case of my Delta Recruit (who is a rogue Vorta merc with a private army of Jem'Hadar), character. I cannot make a Na'kuhl, Herald, or Iconian character, nor do I have any desire to do so, so I will never fly either ship.
You can make a Herald, it's just very costly since the armour and weapons are all Lobi. But create alienc haracters and put them in the Herald armour, use Herald weapons and you are good.
