Who has the conn?

Does anyone know how the game decides who appears when you contact the ship? My 4th string science officer is apparently always in the captain's chair when I'm away.

Is there anyway to change that other than firing him?

Go into your DoFFing tabs. When you select Departments (I think it is) it shows each one, and shows which BoFF is assigned there. For each one, you can select the little down arrow and change which BoFF is assigned as the head of that department. The one you assign is the one that then shows up.....most of the time

It's not fool proof. No matter who you assign where you still sometimes get someone else appearing. I think it's just a matter of what flag was put in the code by the person who coded that particular segment, with one person coding for department head and another one coding something different. I don't know what criteria Cryptic has programmed as to who is going to appear on the "something else". As I type this the thought occurred to me that it might be something as simple as the first BoFF of whatever class (Tac/Sci/Eng) that is in your crew list, sorted alphabetically.

As my play time is limited and I have no clue off the top of my head which mission(s) violate the department head rule, testing my new theory ain't gonna happen. You might test it if you get a chance, it's as simple as renaming the BoFF that currently appears so that a different BoFF of the same class now comes first alphabetically and see if it changes anything.
    LTS and loving it.

The game also doesn't like the 23rd century Boffs.

And it has a tendency of saying Officer A is hailing you but puts up the picture of Officer B instead with Officer A's name in the caption.
