Kobayashi Maru event strategy question

bmcd73bmcd73 Member Posts: 263 Arc User
I haven't done it yet but I see people complaining about it already in chat. There are 2 queues: timed and not timed. For those wanting to get in and out I am guessing they are doing the timed. Is that correct? I see people complaining about "tryhards" but the description says the longer you last the better the rewards. What does that mean? Is it worth it to try to see it through or am I going to be in a group where I'm trying and everyone else gives up until the KM is destroyed because the rewards for the time invested aren't worth it?

As usual, if you pug it you will get random people with random opinions on how to complete it. Nobody has any business complaining about other players having different plans than themselves. If you want everyone to do it a specific way, get a premade team and plan in advance.

I would indeed expect players who just want it over quick would run the time-limited version and those who try to get far the unlimited, but that's no guarantee either. Not all people are that logical.

Then again, I don't personally expect to get very far in a pug anyway, even when everyone is trying their best.

I will try it out tonight. The biggest complaint I have come across is the lag. I am just going to pug this mission same like all the other queue missions I have done before. I am going to play the timed queue just to get familiar with it. I will likely do that a few times before giving the "unlimited" queue a try. But this weekend is pretty busy for me so I may not have a lot of time to play STO.

Shoot the bio-neutral warheads ! 1 guy should camp the launcher and try to kill it while the others work the enemy ships. The warheads are what kills the Maru the fastest, not the enemy ships.

Now shaddup about the queues, it's a BUG

Yep old nws taught us that the launchers are pricks. Liking this new version so far but yeah in a PUG you're not gonna get too far in, my PUG record so far is 7 rounds.

Had one pug that beat the timer, in part because at one point two of use popped the lukari healy console as the maru was getting nuked by an undie blob but mostly because folk were willing to take part.

Think that was 12 or 13 rounds.

I just played the Kobayashi Maru queue for the first time. It was a PUG run for the timed version. I don't think people were trying very hard at all since it only lasted 3 rounds and it seems that I was the only player attempting to heal the Maru's hull and shields.

Anywaste, I got my daily voucher so at least it seems easy to get regardless if players are actually trying to play the mission or not.

I never did this before and wasn't sure what to expect. My build is not perfect and my ship still needs work. But I do fine in most other content.

I pugged this event and each time it just felt like a frenetic mess. There doesn't seem to be much thought put into this event. Just spawn lots of random ships, wind up the Maru and let her loose. Like a whack-a-mole game from a carnival. Glad I'm done with it.

Wait to start a new round would be one of my suggestions. Leave one ship alive so that the KM can be healed between rounds.

I haven't been able to try this yet as I pug the mission, but in my experience it has worked well in the past during Hive ground. Instead of reviving team mates, postponing the spawning of new enemies can give you some time to properly prepare for the next round.

Other than that: debuffing. Don't try to just blow up stuff, also make sure that said stuff doesn't hit as hard as it potentially could. This is a tactic I tend to use when fighting Tzenkethi. A thing that people often seem to forget, is that the ability to prevent the Jupiter (or the KM) from taking damage is worth more than the ability to help it recover from that damage. For the KM this is even more true than for the more resilient Jupiter.

Tyken's rift works well, I also like Chronometric inversion field. -66.7% damage from enemies is quite significant. TR is of course an option for a wider range of ships.

Saw someone make a comment in zone chat along the lines of "oh god not the heralds again" so can only assume they're not a fan of that volley of emp probes.

Hopefully tomorrow will be clear of the magpies who sit mostly idle for 2-3 rounds as they should have their shiny by then. It's not as if the timed one takes all that long.

I think try hard in the context of this event means someone that did more than hit the spacebar once.

Bring in a carrier and drop pets to escort the Maru.

Have protomatter consoles and outgoing hull healing abilities going at all times.

Target warheads and destroy them (the Space Trait: Precise is good for this).

If your EPG settings are super high, an Aceton Assimilator can probably help out a lot.

Tanky cruisers should be circling and protecting the Maru. Sci ships should be sciencing the hell out of the bad guys. Escorts should be reminding the bad guys what happens when they decide to get brave and come in closer.

The absolute last thing you want is to be caught with the enemy forces between you and the KM. Keep yourself between them and Threatening Stance like crazy. Make them come for you, not them.
Space Barbie Extraordinaire. Got a question about Space Barbie? Just ask.

    Things I want in STO:

    1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
    2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
    3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
    4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
    5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
    6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
    7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
    8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!

I notice that most PUGs only want the two round minimum for the reward and then throw in the towel.
Sometimes there are even 3 or 4 leechers and it is difficult to get round two.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
