[XB1, PS4] Expansion of neglected energy types

Since the console release last year there has been numerous additions added to the variety of weapons via lockboxes and lobi store with the exception of plasma and the most neglected and wasted energy type Proton.

lockboxes since console release:

Cardassian/dominion (polaron)
Kelvin (phaser)
Elachi (disruptor)
Herald/vaadwuar (polaron, Antiproton)
Tal Shi'ar (disruptor)
Undiscovered (phaser)
Privateer (disruptor)

last plasma weapon added: Chronoplasma (Na'kuhl lockbox) April 12th 2016, PC only
last proton weapon added: Experimental proton weapon (protonic arsenal rep), season 8, nov 12th 2013!!

this is in addition the plethora of so-far unreleased lockbox/lobi weapons on the console platforms

i ask cryptic to please release the older equipment that is currently pc-only to allow the console players to catch up and to also expand the proton weapon variety.

They've said that all lockbox stuff is eventually headed to consoles.

Proton didn't go over well, as they wanted roughly something that'd fit with any build regardless of weapon type and without needing buffing consoles (even though they released some that did), but the end result didn't really work well.

Ah but you know what OP will be posting when that does happen.....'Why is content being released faster!?'. Patience is not his virtue. The Consoles started 6 months behind in episodic content. They are now a month behind. They even got T6 Tal-Shiar ships BEFORE the PC.

Proton weapons have basically been abandoned, the vast majority of the player base did not like it.

However, it would be nice if a story mission was create to reward a space gear set that benefits plasma weapons like what the Nausican set did for disruptors.

they probably abandoned it because there is only 2 pure proton weapons one of which is gated behind a ship and the other gated behind the dyson rep, plus only 1 hybrid variety (protonic polaron with standard weapon-types except an omni array) unlike the rest of the standard energy types.

it should have been added as an alternative to anti-proton with the standard weapon-types and then add the hybrids later.

Because proton weapons is based on Solanae tech and that story arc has ended.

You do realize that STO for PC has existed since February 2010 and the console versions have only existed since September 2016, right? Eventually the other lockboxes will be released. You either need to be patient or switch over to PC.

Meh, what's the point of having damage types at all when no enemy has type-specific resistances...just pick something you like the appearance of.

I forgot to add that due to the fact that Proton weapons completely bypasses shields. It also has a 25% on a critical hit to do additional proton damage.

If proton weapons were to be made widely available like other energy weapons, then it would have to be massively nerfed. The only other energy weapons that can bypass 100% shields are Elachi Disruptors which only has a 2.5% chance to do so. If it is not nerfed, then every player will instantly switch over to proton weapons, and there would be no point using torpedoes and no point in having shields installed on a ship unless they are for set bonuses.

Then give the standard proton weapons a 2.5% proc chance (minus the voth dmg bonus) plus the dmg values of the other standard energy types (which are all the same dmg stats) and leave the rep protonic polaron and the experimental proton with their original values it's not hard, developers and modders have doing that for over a decade including cryptic.

That might be the reason people want some of the lockbox weapon variants. :)
