They just released cstore escorts and cruisers, its not likely they'd give away a free account wide unlock competitor. Its also worth noting that a lot of players won't have a carrier at all.
Didn't they just give us a carrier this winter? And again, that never stopped them before from giving away the Corvette even when Escorts were the most coveted ship type in the game. Are carriers really popular? I don't see them often.
nope, we got a warship, escort/cruiser hybird, no hangers. and I see em plenty. actually my main is build with pets, if not carriers in mind.

Though I will say that I think is a bigger issue, what differentiates a carrier class of ship, from a hanger-bay using ships like the battle-cruisers an dreadnoughts. This is part of why I would love to see them make carriers into their own ship class, with their own ship-class specific mechanic ranging from hanger-console slots (console slots that allow you to give buffs to your hanger pets), or giving us a deeper UI to micro-manage our hanger-pets via, either way this would show that carriers have more of a focus on their pets than hanger-bay using ships like battle-cruisers an dreadnoughts to.
The only thing I have against them, is other people want them so bad... and we already had a chance to get it, it'd be the same ship you got. Cryptic offers you a free ship, and you people can't do anything but whine about it not being the one YOU wanted, they could charge you $30 for it, or give you a .05% chance to get one from a box. Risan ships are out of place, they don't belong to any current or previous content, and likely no future content. Vorgon ships on the other hand do. A carrier is good, we haven't had one in almost 3 years. Last thing we need is yet ANOTHER escort in the the game, we need variety, and as I said, another universal account wide carrier, I'm down for that. I wouldn't complain if it was a Risan Carrier, or a Risan Dreadnought, I would complain if it was a remake, slightly altered re-skin of a previously released ship. I have no desire to earn the same ship twice.
Really though, why do you need a T6 Risan Corvette? You already have one, it's just labeled T5-U. It wouldn't be any different from the one you have with the exception of a passive on a probably useless console, and a more than likely, useless trait, and maybe a slight increase to hull and shield.
That's disappointing, to be against something people want just because they want it is a really poor attitude to have. It's unnecessarily negative, even borderline hateful. Isn't it better to hope people can get the things that make them happy and be happy for them when they do? It's not like any of us who like the Risan ships have done anything to you to cause such a vindictive attitude. Isn't it better to love than hate?
Your other points are rather dubious, in my opinion.
For one, T6 re-issues of formerly T5 ships are the game's bread and butter right now, and we have seen numerous ships receive this both in the C-store and even in the form of last year's winter event ship. Given that this year saw a T6 version of a previous T5 event ship, there was reason for people to hope that former T5 Risan ships would get the same treatment.
Vorgon ships are no more canonically sourced than Risan ones, neither were ever seen on screen. The Vorgon ships in game are original Cryptic designs just like the Risan ones, and from an in-universe perspective it makes more sense for the Risans to be manufacturing a converted pleasure craft than for them to be making duplicate versions of enemy warships. Traditionally, enemy ships go in lockboxes. They're supposed to be rare. But thanks to this, virtually the entire playerbase has access to enemy ships. That is not cool.
I've long thought that the Breen ships fall into the same category, enemy ships that should be in a lockbox because that's how enemy faction ships should be distributed. I feel that Risan ships are appropriate for Risa and the winter event should give out Andorian vessels. And yes I know the Klingons and Romulans, but it makes more sense for Alliance members to have access to limited models of cross-faction ships than for everyone to be flying enemy vessels all the time.
Regardless of the detailed reasons, though, people have reason and the right to want, wish for and lobby for the ships they want in the game. Free through an event doesn't mean we lose all right to an opinion. It would be one thing if people were throwing temper tantrums in the form of insult and profanity laced tirades at the developers. I for one have not seen such misbehavior. All we're doing is expressing our feelings and desires for the event. I've not seen anyone cross the line in how they've made themselves heard.
In Cryptic's lore the lockbox scheme is the work of ferengis. So is the lobi store. Summer event ships are made by ferengis with risian sponsorship. Winter event ships are given out by Q.
I rather like the xyfius and am lookin forward to the carrier as well. Been using them as stand ins for Ferasan warships since I doubt I'll see any more of those ever.
It could be worse and we'd get a Vogon Constructor ship instead. Then we'd have to build an interstellar bypass.

I'm surprised there's so much support for the Vogon ship, I never see the other one in play and the Risan Corvette in particular was pretty well loved until T6 made it obsolete. I truly want a new Corvette, been wanting one for years now and have been disappointed every year now since they switched away from Risan ships to first Ferengi and now Vogon.

I was expecting Xyfius frigates...because the NPC vorgon frigate is a Xyfius.
It's funny they keep making these custom alien ships for us, that the races that supposedly built them don't actually have.
Honestly I could have gone with the Vorgon carrier coming with either fighters or a shuttle-type pet natively, while then you had the option to buy the Xyfius frigate from the dil store, and if you had gotten the Xyfius from last year's event you could buy those frigates at a discount. This would allow everyone the option to get the frigate pet, but that those that had been there for the prior year's event had a nice bonus allowing them to buy the frigate pets at a discount.
Those Training Manuals are pricey. 300 Favors for Tier I, 500 Tier II, 700 Tier III. Total 1,500 to Outfit ONE Boff.

300 favors will be cheap a few week's time, every year it starts about 10k per favor and crashes down to 3k. A lot of the existing stadndard lvl 1 skills on boffs are pretty poor and the better specialisation skills don't start until lvl 2 or 3.
I am not really into commanding carriers so at least for now I am simply getting the Vorgon Carrier for the Admiralty Card. I like the Xyphus Heavy Escort; I created a tetyron build around it.
The graviton spike training manual is worth getting, and probably sonic disruption for science Boffs. Though I am considering giving my science Boffs a 2nd copy of cold fusion flash instead of sonic disruption.
