Improved Participation Idea

Greetings,

It's been years since I tried making my own missions on STO, but I remember it being pretty fun ,if a bit time consuming.
However, I'm rarely motivated to try many of them for the short time per day that I play. Hence, my idea in a few, fun steps:

Step 1: Hold a contest for the best, say 10, foundry missions. Mission series will have to be kept in mind; if there's a really good second part, then you should at least have the first part so the second part makes since.

Step 2: The winners would receive a nice or unique reward. How about a Founder BOFF, for example? New Link? Odo's influence maybe?

Step 3: New Game Event! Like the Mirror Event, people can explore the contest winning missions for that week and get rewards.

Rinse and Repeat, whenever....

What do you guys think? Devs?
Just an idea.

Well we have been holding contests in the Foundry community, restricted to missions built according to a challenge prompt and within a certain window. That helps make those missions directly comparable to one another, keeps the number of missions to review to manageable levels, and allows us to hold further contests (there's always a new prompt to write. :))

Here's the link to the latest.

I would like to see a bonus weekend event (keep it short, sweet, and frequently repeatable) that focuses on the Foundry. Exactly how to tie bonus rewards to playthroughs is a major discussion topic (since there are a lot of abusable grinders out there, it'll be tricky to make sure that mission missions remain the focus) but it's one that I'm sure Cryptic can work through.

Bonus Dil or marks from playing foundry missions for a weekend event would be nice too :P

Nice to know that the Foundry community does contests like that, but your concerns are why we would have an official contest by Cryptic; one that grinding missions wouldn't win. That said, I forgot about the "spotlight" missions and Cyrptic does do those. Perhaps, the best ten "spotlight" missions (assuming the latest updates haven't messed them up)? Although, making new missions based on preset rules (like you showed me) certainly has it's benefits.

Basically, there's not enough motivation to do a lot foundry missions even though some of them are vary well written. Hence, the weekend event idea for Foundry missions. I'm sure this is old news for most of you on this forum, but I wanted to share my idea. Who knows what could happen  .

Side note: the rewards would be in place of the dil donations, I think.

It may be something we've talked about before but "improved participation ideas" are always welcome. :)

My concern was with how rewards would be handed out in a general Foundry event (that awards bonus marks/dil for completing missions), not your suggestion specifically. I have no worries at all about grinding missions sneaking their way into contests or spotlights.

As for spotlights, check the feed ;). A new mission was listed just a couple weeks ago (Apex [AEI]).

That said, doing more spotlights is one way of cultivating interest in the Foundry but it's worth remembering that most, and some of the best, content exists outside that system. We can't just plug the top missions, occasionally feed more into spotlights, and hope that has a trickle down effect through the entire Foundry. I think more needs to be done to help encourage players to explore what the entire Foundry community has to offer. That's why I don't think a "best of the best" contest would help much. The spotlight system is a more egalitarian way of handling that same idea (here's a bunch of great missions, explore as you will and use that as a starting point for digging into more). We don't need to pit those head-to-head against each other, as a direct contest between what are already the most played missions doesn't move us forward by much (it just concentrates interest on what already has it.)

Keep going with spotlights and contests, but don't make them the only things that highlights the Foundry.

So what I would like to see that general Foundry event I outlined before (where participation is improved across the board, but hopefully with some way of stifling grinders from taking prominence in "how to get marks/dil fast"). Also, the top three system back in action (it's been down since the last downtime, and it's hitting access to general Foundry content pretty darn hard) but that's a separate topic.
