Why are dps guys speccing drain?

postinggumpostinggum Member Posts: 1,117 Arc User
Looking at builds by high dps players they are putting points into drain but slotting no drain powers. As far as I know all this does is make then more resistant to npcs using drain abilities, am I missing something?

Engineers make good use of the DrainX skill since Nadion Inversion scales with it. Otherwise its an insurance to protect against getting drained in situations where it might be possible by NPC's or Other players.

Some DPSer currently use this space set:

Reason is the 3 piece set power which happens to scale with drain.

From a torpedo perspective, Neutronic and Quantum Phase scale nicely with DrainX. With those two weapons vs shielded targets, and especially in a Sci-Drain build, DrainX is an offensive stat.

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.

I do not use the Quantum Phase Applications set, but my Shamshir build currently is specced into Improved Drain Expertise + Drain Infection. The reason behind this is mainly because I use Charged Particle Burst and Drain infection for a little bit of supplemental DPS. Some people also use Tyken's Rift in its place, but I like Charged Particle Burst as it's fun fnu to me, for some reason.

At any rate, in my case, it's certainly not necessary to spec into Drain as I did, but it's nice for a little supplemental DPS, if you want it. Ultimately these three points can be spent wherever you want.

I'm pretty sure that even if you've not equipped AP but are doing x17 elitist hax dps, you're actually using AP. It's another coding quirk.

So TIL that SA didn't go from being a T H I C C damage bonus to a thicc damage bonus. Rather, what happened is that it went from T H I C C to merely flat. I guess I should be happy it was not turned into a flatter bonus. That would have been even more nerd-rage worthy. -Anonymous

I use drain as Reverbearation makes all my mines and torpedoes disable shields and the more drain I have the longer shields are disabled for.
