Yes but idea must be revised ( State what you would do differnt)
I've suggested a mirror universe rebels (or refugees) mini-faction many times since Agents of Yesterday gave us a blueprint.
I don't see them making us former willing/complicit members of the empire. But as folks who've fought against it or always sought to eat away at it from within, I think the idea has legs.
It would be fun, but what age rating does STO have? A playable Terran faction would mean for sure the game would need a mature rating. There's simply no avoiding dark to pitch black themes, when playing as a Terran.
I don't see how they are worse than Klingons. I mean as a Klingon player, you can buy and sell slaves.
hell yes, if KDF and cross faction defection. My main is a Andorian looking alien who is a Privateer in the KDF Empire using her MU T5u Fleet Tor'kaht along side her various spoils of war.
Let's get some Fed Gorn, and those nice new MU hull materials please as well.
Thanks for the Advanced Light Cruiser, Allied Escort Bundles, Jem-Hadar Light Battlecruiser, and Mek'leth

KotOR and KotOR 2 both went as dark as would be necessary, each with a Teen rating. Examples include "saving" someone from criminals only to turn around and demand compensation if they want to live, the ability to mind trick someone into jumping off of a sky scraper on nar shadaa, and countless other times where you can either kill or cruelly ruin the life of an innocent. Oh and you can also slaughter an entire settlement of Sand People if you don't feel like going through the effort of learning to communicate with them.

Not to mention overt sexual themes.
All that's really needed is some revealing clothing, and possibly a female NPC who says some mildly suggestive things regarding herself and her CO. Overt sexuality isn't necessary, and the chances of CBS approving such content for any Trek game is probably close to zero.

((looks at the Enterprise pilot episode)) I think they're fairly open to the idea.
For a video game approvals example, there was pretty much non stop innuendo in the Star Trek console game set in the KT timeline with Kirk eyeing the hot Vulcan scientist.

What I meant to say was that we wouldn't need more than innuendo. When I read the post I quoted I thought of GTA5 style sexual themes which, while they would definitely fit the mirror universe, CBS would never allow.
I'd like playable Dominion, Romulan Star Empire, Terran Empire, etc, if they were not turned into Federation-knock-offs like the Romulans have become as Romulan Republic.
More factions are good. However, if PWE adds another mini faction. They need to learn from the massive mistake they made with the Romulan mess. Let players choose to be evil! What ruined the Romulan half-faction for me was not being able to align myself with Empress Sela. Adding a few evil or even more grey area choices for mission dialog and the slight twist in their outcome sometimes shouldn't be too much to ask for. What makes STO really boring to play is the merging of the factions. PWE puts little to no effort into differentiating the content at all, which purely makes their efforts seem lazy and makes playing multiple characters pointless when the outcome is always the same, regardless of player race, faction, alliance, etc.
By this logic Guild Wars 2, and indeed, MOST mmos in general, are lazy for making all their content play the same regardless of race.
Despite the fact that content parity, and your racial choice not effecting how the game is played beyond visuals, being one of the biggest things most MMOs players ask for.
The only MMO where content is really different depending on your faction/race is WoW, but WoW is WoW, and even WoW had made huge chucks of the expansions the exact same, regardless of your faction, because even THEY can't pull off 100% unique content all the way through.
What's the use of different species if they all are the same???
That's like: i want a dog, but it must be a cat.
Klingons don't get drunk.
They just get less sober.
Meh. I already have a modern era Terran captain who defected in his Paradox along with his mirror crew and reprogrammed holo-Leeta (former) watchdog. No mini-faction required.
The TOS mini-faction works because it gives us the nostalgic retro visuals from a period that geezers like me loved (our first Trek). The mirror universe is a fun reversal of characters and behaviors, but it covers all Trek periods and people are probably fragmented on which time period they prefer.

Which is why Terran faction shouldn't exist. We're not talking "friendly" sexual themes with the Terrans.
It is kind of pointless doing things you can't do right. The Terrans are one of those things that are better the less you know about it.

"The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it."
I don't really see a point in calling them "factions" anymore at this point. "Mini" or otherwise.
Having a mirror universe origin story could be nice. Not that I'm particularly interested in starting yet another new toon, but I'm not the type to object to an optional feature just because I wouldn't necessarily use it myself.
What's the use of different species if they all are the same???.
Same use as it is in Guild Wars 2, TERA, and all other MMOs that let you pick a variety of species, yet the gameplay/quests is 100% the same regardless(minus a few racial traits/powers that don't matter beyond the first few levels)
It's called RP, and playing only as humans is visually boring.
How can you RP something that ain't what it is???
One cannot play something, if that something is not the whole.
It's like going to a Masquerade ball as yourself.
Or a Halloween event.
OK, SOME are maybe scary enough even without costume, but still...
Imagins playing a Sith game, but you have no powers, no pretty neon whacky whacky stick and the like....
Would that be a Sith game?
Klingons don't get drunk.

No. The Mirror Universe was good for a single episode's plot as in TOS. Everything that came afterwards was stupendous.
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
Simple fact of the matter is I have no interest in replaying the entire STO storyline yet again. And that is an inevitable part of new factions - a limited number of unique episodes and then right back to the Klingon war and the rest of the STO storyline we all know so well.
Certainly, in the case of an MU character, I have a difficult time beleving that they'd want to ally with anyone anyway.
Yeah i do understand that reyan what cryptic hould do is something like NW for a price you can get an insta pas to 60 and insta complete all reps from omega to the last rep introduced.
If they did that then a new faction would be nice but i do understand , i was just tossing the idea of if there was a new faction would a terran empire micro faction work for the players
and reyan i seriously hope cryptic gets off their dead duffs and get you the T6 Nova its long overdue YOU HAR ME CRYPTIC REYAN NEED HIS T6 NOVA!!
I don't really see the point. Aside from a different origin story, you'd just be playing "evil" versions of existing species. I think it amounts to a RP choice, more than anything else. There's already enough MU ships and uniforms for players to use for this purpose. We don't need a new faction for this.
One of my characters is a Klingon in Starfleet. In my head canon, she's a mirror Klingon from the KCA stuck in the prime universe. Her prime universe counterpart serves on my main Klingon crew.
I would much rather see a playable Cardassian/Dominion faction before a Mirror faction. At least that would give us new playable species, etc.
With that said, I think it would be cool to have some more story content set in the Mirror Universe. Especially if you could meet your mirror self!

Branching off what reyan said: Yes, but only if when the player gets away from the opening missions, there would be additional variations in the missions. Like the mission on Nimbus where Tovan's sister is rescued. As a fed, she is just another captive to be freed, but as a Rom, there's the different dialogue, acknowledging that the player is Tovan's friend. If an MU character had similar variants, that might hold off the tedium of playing the same old same old over and over.
Note to Devs: How about having Rinna as a new bridge officer candidate after completing this mission? Afterall, Feds can have Romulan bridge officers.
