New Heavy Weapons Slot has brought new life to old ships

goodscotchgoodscotch Member Posts: 1,680 Arc User
I pulled up my T6 Tactical Pilot Raptor two days ago and noticed that there was a new slot...Heavy Weapons. So, I did the research and claimed the free Mk XII cannon and got it up to Epic Mk XIV and slotted it. I set the ship up and set sail into the black void. Started running queues and...WOW! This is the only ship that I have that can outgun my T6 Temporal D7 Cruiser. I will be flying this for a while for sure!

Yes, makes me much more curious about trying the Qa'tel out, maybe with the next ship sale. Grab the Qa'tel, Alita, and rommie ship 3pk.

Haven't had a chance to play with a heavy weapon on ny Mah'ta yet, but really looking forward to that.

Just not a big fan of the KDF Raptor looks. I'll use them for allied races, pretended they were Ferasan until they got an escort.

Just not my aesthetic cup of Raktajino so to speak.
Thanks for the Advanced Light Cruiser, Allied Escort Bundles, Jem-Hadar Light Battlecruiser, and Mek'leth

Yup...been having fun with it on my Kor BoP, too. :)

Well...I was on it for a week and then went back to the D7 Temporal. I also have a T6 Kor BoP...maybe I will try giving that some space time. I'm so used to battlecruisers that it's hard for me to get used to anything else.

Meantime, I am thinking about springing for the Pilot Raptor Bundle (take advantage of this weekend's sale)....
I haven't flown a battle cruiser in eons, since leveling up, I think. I just like the smaller ships, now.

Friend has been telling me: Pilot Raptors is right up my alley.

Got the T6 Fleet B'rel last night. Enjoying it very much. I have to retrain myself. I have it set up as a cannon build with a forward torpedo. I just have to remember to pull out if things start to get hot and my shields start to disappear quickly. It's a discipline thing. Can't hang around when there's too much damage going on. That's why it's quick.

I'ld suggest runing pi canis path of the warrior a few times. it covers basically everything except zerg rush and MI covers that. if nothing else it'll help get back into the right mind set.

MI is also great for practicing piloting, basically, chasing ships to activate Raider Flanking....there are so many ships coming at ya from different angles. Trying to hit them from behind becomes pretty fun. :)

Never got the Pilot Raptors after looking closer, looks too similar to Kor to me. I wasn't sure it was worth that much money for Pilot Maneuvers.

I will keep my eyes peeled for something else. Have that Summer Event ship coming up, after all.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been doing much better in it using strafing runs and then veering off and putting distance between the targets and my BoP. That seems to work nicely. As long as there aren't too many targets in the area, I can stay a while, but I'm always ready to plot an escape course and get some distance. It's an interesting ship to fly. I will say that at least from the perspective of canon Trek, the tactics necessary for it seem to jive with what was shown in the various series.

The Heavy Weapon Slot looks really good for the BOPs. The -1 weapon slot to begin with really hurts them.

I'm not saying it's going to be Vorgon but... It's going to be Vorgon.

    Ugh.

I tried my TOS Fed in the Vorgon ship...ran it through MI. It. Totally. Sucks.
It so sucks, I am gonna stick her in anything else...probably the Risian corvette.

funny enough my kdf rom is flying one and it's probably his best ship. little bit of a glass cannon at times but tears though just about anything.

Found out recently that there's a heavy weapon slot for something surprising. The MU Ki'Tang BoP. Might work for the MU Raptors as well, but it is nice to fly the MU Ki'Tang, with the Ch'Tang skin thrown on there, and a lightning cannon mounted on the ship. :)

I switched her over to the Risian corvette with much better results for my TOS Fed.
The Vorgon Escort, and even the Breen Raider, felt sluggish after being in (my beloved) Kor BoP.

And, I gave my KDF Rom the "Bug Ship" I found in the Phoenix box. Now, that Jem'Hadar Attack ship (T-5U) ship can keep up with the T-6 BoP. Which is kinda sad, in a way.

gotta remember back in the day-the bugship was intentionally OP as ****.

Eh....after flipping through all the ships I have gone through trying to find something fun for the TOS to use for MI Event, now, I wish I HAD listened to my friend and made the purchase of the Pilot Raptor Bundle during the ship sale.

I found this to be the best DPS ship I have once I put that cannon in the rear. As patrickngo said, It's a bit thin skinned, but it eats stuff up fast! It's even better than my Temporal D7 at DPS. Tactical model is scary good. Many different visual configurations are possible if you buy the pack.

Yea, I think I got the idea, now. :::I can be so stubborn at times:::
Gonna get funds together for the next Ship Sale...or Zen Sale...which ever comes first and get the Pilot Raptor Bundle.

It is...after all....what I seem to enjoy flying around.

Thin skinned is OK...I don't "spec" out for DPS.
I know better....and to put some points and effort in Hull and Heals.

If it's Cmdr TAC, 7 weapon slots or less, and 1-hangar bay or less, it's going to have the Hvy Weapon Slot.

The BOPs needed it because they only have 4 forward weapons, 6 in total.

Just noticed your post after reviewing this thread again. I can tell you from experience what those 'Pilot' maneuvers give you the ability to do. You get a new small control panel with directional buttons - Forward, back, left, right. When you hit those buttons, your ship pulls a very fast maneuver in the direction chosen. You can also use keyboard keys to utilize these as well. The rolls to the side are ok...it's the forward and back that have real significance. If you hit forward, your ship goes into hyper impulse mode for a very short time and shoots forward very fast. It puts quick distance between you and a potential enemy. Very useful.

Even more useful is the back maneuver. That will do the same thing as forward except...you go backwards. This is EXTREMELY useful when you're making a strafing run on a target and need a little more time to pour some more fire onto it before you pass it by. It often times makes the difference between leaving the target alive or watching it blow up in your rearview mirror.

Too bad they don't have that "backward" maneuver on my Kor. But it would be WAY too much with that pilot move AND flanking bonus. LOL!

Though, I would never have to use it playing NPCs....those don't really chase you. But it would be more useful than having to swing around to the back side of them, I suppose.

And the rolls to the side would be useful in getting out of line of fire of directional effects like whatever the hell those red beams were that the Na'kuhl were using. Oh and that Doomsday Machine, too.

Does that get you OUT of tractor beams??

It can. Tractor beams max range is 5km. So a quick burst could put you out of range quickly. ApO,Pol Hull and evasive Manuvers work as well.

You know..I've been "Jammed" before and still do damage with my Tractor beam repulsors (so long as I stay within 5km of the target it has followed my targets). Both on NPCs and Players...Pol Hull Nullifies Tractor Beams.

I say this as someone who regularly hits Argala on Adv when the Apex Battleships Hit me while my Revered TBR is still active.Hits for the full duration so long as I stay within TBRs range,Jammed or not.

However..I can see the jam sensors working on just Tractor Beam (not TBR)..As it is targeted vs anything in X Area.
Sheesh..With all the counters to Tractor Beam..That ability should be doing WAAAAY more damage than it is.

That would be the D4x. The D4x is hands down the best Raider in the game.
