Out of all the Dyson ships the one that needs love is the event ship. Still a slap in the face that the C-store ones are better then the ones we got from slogging through the Dyson launch event.
To be fair, that was the norm back then. The basic ody & bort, the amby & kamarag and even the basic obelisk.
The Samsar was the first annyversary ship that was fleet grade like the summer & winter ships.
As for a T6 dyson ship, better leave that alone. The dyson bunch are avarage sci ship (and terrible escorts) but they are way too gimicky. Stuff like that tends to break often and repeatedly and we all know how long this kind of TRIBBLE tends to stay broken.
I'd like the see T6 Dyson Destroyers....perhaps make the proton dual heavies a special heavy weapon for the T6 version that can only work on the Destroyer.
Maybe a special console that interacts with the cannons like how the console on that new escort interacts with the railgun...
Would be a sure purchase for me...

I'd settle for the Step Between the Stars ship you're forced into using not being a flaming garbage bin. Heaven help you if you need to farm that forsaken mission for any reason.
You'd think they'd want a positive advertisement for the ship, and make it walk over everything in the last half of the mission. Especially for how ugly the awful thing is. Honestly, if we could fling all the Dyson ships into the sun, I feel we'd all be better off. The non-Fed ones at least look all right, but that's about as far as my positive feelings go with them.

True enough but it was and still an insult to those of us who bothered to do the grind and mud crawling for it.
So..a DHC with a 45 degree arc on a lower turn rate sci ship is a bad idea....
Eng consoles to boost Turn rate & Resists.
Also when you go Tac the turn rate of the ship goes up... at least it seems that way to me.
But one of the pet peeves is that the mode would turn off when you zone/load a map. Not sure if they ever fixed it.
It's a Sci ship so it was "good" for roms and kdf... feds always had a better choice. mothballed it even b4 t6 came out.
Turn consoles dont help that much (Imho Cannons outside of single cannons are a waste on that ship)..Aux to Damp,Evasive,ApO or a traited Tac Fleet works much better.
It still is a 'good sci ship' and looks/works best in the rom flavors (Gotta love that Battle cloak and Singularity fun)..I cant say the 2 newest T6 Warbirds are much better outside the Specialized seating.
Feds..well your right they had other options that looked waaay better...I chose the Wells over it on my Tac toon..But still keep it in my ship inventory loaded with all the Dyson rep stuff..Waiting (hoping) for changes to the rest of the Proton stuff.
Your pet peve..is understandable..But since it was only a toggle..You always reverted to the default "sci mode"...Though I do wish it was a straight on or off...
I will say..The Dyson in step between the stars is set up horribly!

Yeah...I need to run that mission 24 times...3 time per toon because the 3 piece SiF leech effect is pretty snazzy. And heaven can't help you when you are in the hell hold of a mission using that hell hole of a ship.
To be fair the ship is fine when you make a build for it but the mission version is just absolutely terrible. I dread doing SBS cause of that awful awful setup. For an "advance" ship they did a bad job of equipping her.
Also, I thought I was insane just running it 3 times for the set but 24 times... That's crazy

What happened to my Halon consoles

To be fair I used them extensively even after the Vesta showed up on the scene. They could make a hit ship if they left the slots mostly the same, and got rid of the toggle, leaving both commander slots, and maybe a couple of low level t6 BO slots. They could even treat them like a raider and leave off the new consoles in favor of the commander slots. It'd be a new experience.

I ran it multiple times just to equip all my BOffs with the space suits. Then someone told me how to get the Eng and Tac versions and I had to run it some more. I almost got used to using that boxy looking ship, and I love the combined BOff powers your bridge crew offers.
I never did see the point in the conversion thing. A T6 ought to just have the HW slot and come with a Protonic DHC.
And with the revamp, perhaps even create a full suite of protonic weapons, or at least fill out all the cannon types.

The point of the switch function was fusing an escort and a sci ship. It just horribly backfired because both need to be drastically different equipped to function properly and that fused, non scaling DHC with a unique energy type that's only boosted by very crappy consoles did not help either.
Basically two halves failed to make one whole.
As for proton, that type was dead on arrival. The protonic pol is bad (srsly a 25% proc that only counts on crits and that still kills a wepaon mod ) , the tac consoles are bad and the protonic rep weapon isn't particulary great either (though the console and torp rock).
The DSD was the hearld of a lot of bad designs that were luckily never repeated again.
I have currently around 20 toons on my account, and all did "Step Between Stars" 3 times for that set.
The ship itself is not great - the worst is when you do the mission at higher level that it was designed,
when you are level 60, the enemies are scaled up, but you get ship with equipment for level 50
But the worst for me was, every time the game put me in that ship, it completly busted my power tray and
traits setup (it does that also in "Sphere of Influence", when it put me in that Obelisk Carrier too).

It would help if the default load out on the ship was better..Say the Drain/Epg Research consoles (or even the current versions of the Rep proton Sci consoles) in the sci spots at least..That default Dyson load out is abysmal in that mission.
So..I was comparing my T6 Alliance Multi-Mission Systems Set to the T5 Solanae Advanced Technologies set...
The Proton damage from those consoles would greatly benefit from scaling with either drain (Shield Inversion Projector) or EPG (Proton Destabilizing Module) as seen in the Alliance set.. Currently the only thing that modifies those consoles damage (Just speaking about the proton damage for both consoles) output is solely +to proton damage..Subsystem power levels dont do nothing (only really checked the Destabilizing module)..
Now im just spit ballin but if they did a T6 Dyson(s)..Maybe one could have trait could change how those consoles damage works? We do it for abilities..
I made a full Protonic build for it, which wasn't even all that cheap (with every bit of Protonic gear upgraded to Epic too). But yes, the ship itself is not that sturdy, the soldered-in cannon a bust, and it didn't turn fast enough, for my taste, to be a real Destroyer.
So, yes, T6 version would be good. Protonic buff in general would be good, for that matter.
I started up a full proton build using only stuff from the rep and related missions, she didn't do too bad when I was able to stay away from large fights. Spamming abilities that could proc the proton dmg started killing things off nicely. Still that dual cannon I would love to trade that in for a dual beam. Maybe try brining up the Dyson ships on the weekly twitch streams.
Space is vast, it's wonderful and maddening. Yet in that madness is some of the greatest beauty I have ever seen.
Quite the opposite. Dyson ships were a bad idea that never took off sales wise. They are best left forgotten.
One persons opinion...they had some problems...but a lot of ships have problems...the Bortasqu' had problems but that didn't stop them from making a T6 version.
Nothing from stopping them from allowing you to remove the Dual Proton cannons or make them the heavy weapon (Which is probably one of the biggest complaints)
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
I quite like the idea of a mode-switching ship, which gains the aspect of the two ship types via switching modes, and honestly would not mind seeing more ships use this mechanic (maybe as something introduced from time to time via those investigating the spheres.). Only the dsd in the mission step between stars is the only version I find annoying, with the others being quite fun actually to use with the right set-up (which is true of many ships honestly). i would have rather see that the dual heavy proton cannon that you gain access to in the tactical mode would switch to a heavy dual bank version when you switch to the science mode, which though would need to cause us to lose access to one of the science abilities that mode gains.

Granted this is anecdotal but I've seen more bortasqu ships flying around in any given week in the last couple of years of playing STO then I have seen dyson ships flying around in the entire history that dyson ships have been available. Since nobody wants them or cares about them outside of the odd 2 or 3 fanboys, they are best left forgotten IMO.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I actually see them fairly often outside ESD (Seen a couple in core assault too)..I Prolly see the DSDs (Mainly the Rom version) more often than I see the Romulan version of the Wells (R'mor)

Btw., some of last patches changed (or were supposed to changed) the subsystem targeting - it should work on cannons too now.
