The Mark nothing Tier 1 challenge

So after the brave Mk 2 challenge and with this week's double xp. I am leveling a new Romulan Tac. I am doing this in a Tier 1 ship with the white common mark zero gear. Since this is a Tier 1ship and the gear is the most basic in the game I am playing at normal difficultly.
So far I am at lvl 34 ship combat is getting hard. Shield are paper thin. Hull is almost nothing. I have no boosting Console slotted and the ship has only 3 bridge officers with only 3 ensign slots.
I suspect I won't be able to continue much past level 40 before it becomes to tedious. The goal is to get to level 50 which was the old end game with the games most basic setup. Not much else to do today, so why not. I have been using more leveled gear for ground as I hate ground and that is too much frustration. Probably be done before, but why not.
