TNG 30th- Fed/KDF Officer Exchange Recruitment Event Idea

Remember TNG's "A Matter of Honour", where Riker serves aboard a Klingon Vessel ?
What a great episode...

Well, what if we had a Recruitment Event based around this concept.

Basically we'd create either a Fed to KDF aligned character or a KDF to Fed aligned character.

The story could follow the storyline of those TNG episodes, where the alliance is trying to continue to foster good relations and understanding between the two super powers.

So if you chose Fed to KDF aligned option, you'd start with fed ships and end up with the T5 and T6 KDF ship lineup to choose from.
The opposite would be true for KDF to Fed aligned characters.

This event would have 2 positive outcomes;
1. The large Federation biased playerbase would suddenly have a means to access end game KDF ships. Meaning more sales of those ships. It's been said the game is so Fed centric, making KDF, or even Rom ships is less profitable. Why not give that huge market of Fed players a backdoor into the KDF store ?

2. This would be a great opportunity to give Klingons some special attention in game as their great species deserves.
The whole theme of the event could be heavily influenced by Klingon culture and lore.. I think the KDF playerbase deserves something like this. And it would be fun.

A point of contention might be the purchasable Klingon Fed in the c-store. Perhaps that version could be given a list of better traits to utilize in order to not to make that choice redundant.

Anyway, I figured you guys might have some more interesting ideas and suggestions to add.

In principle I am against this. Factions should still be somewhat unique, so in general I'd always say "no" to this. However in STO it seems to me that it's only logical to dissolve the faction barriers, if only for a temporary event since a) The devs word on "no factions pecific content ever again", b) the story rapidly advancing towards a "galactic union" anyway and c) as you pointed out, the "Klingon" faction doesn't get much attention development wise anyway.

So, for every other Star Trek game I'd say "no". But for STO specifically, why not. And I like the basic premise building upon an episode, it makes sense in-universe.

you all are forgeting something, storyline starts with a war between the federation and klingon empire, not normally a time when people start such things. starting later would mean more work for cryptic not something they do if they can help it.

feds geting the kdf line up is a negative not a plus, the reverse is also not a good thing, beside the feds have all the ships types but better why would the pay for inferior ships? the only way somewhat acceptable is at most a single ship line that as part of a defection storyline.

and really there is such a thing as being too naive, it would not be used to give anything close to attention to kdf in less it's to try to make it even less desireable to play.

    in short: no, just no.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

I wouldn't support ships being available to other factions, but I don't think races should be faction-specific. The more mercenary-like races should be available to all, with other (such as the core members of the faction) being in the Z-Store.

They aren't hive-minds and not everyone would care for their peoples allegiances.

    But that's just my opinion...

I say no, this is a terrible idea based on a obscured episode of TNG. Factions should remain unique to one another, and by no means a Fed should Cpt a KDF starship.

Only Faction I know of that can do this, and they aren't a faction per se are the Republic Romulans, and only they command starships of another faction up to Commander rank I think?

I think a featured episode where we have to serve aboard an opposite faction ship would be more appropriate and less work. I don't think we should have green academy cadets flying around commanding KDF ships.

I agree with this, on a FE made to include an exchange program event.

you can already get a BO of a different faction... just need to raise up your diplomacy or marauder to tier 4.

That's a pretty great compromise actually. Or a mini arc. If they could score Frakes for a mission or two... or even Tony Todd again. wow.

The T6 ships was maybe too zealous on my part. Perhaps at mission end you're awarded with a classic (nothing fancy) T5 BoP and Kdfs would received a defiant or something along those lines ? They could pass it off as thanks for "upholding the alliance in the face of adversity" etc etc.

Or they could keep it simple and just give out a pack of cross faction admiralty cards, and I'd be pretty happy.
