Not entirely accurate. Arena of Sompek was an account unlock as well.

The map is “nice”, the reward is “nice”. Sadly “nice” is not enough to have me play a map 10 times a day. I hardly would do it even if it would be “great”.
I participate in the event with my main toon and enjoy the sight, perhaps on next run I even build one of those rockets.
Why cryptic still devalues this game by turning beautiful maps into psycho events is beyond me.
Gladly, there is 0 need to do it as far as character progression is concerned.

Looking for a fun PvE fleet? Join us at Omega Combat Division today.
It was fun on the first 2 runs, after that, grind away. Running from loot to worktable and back. But hey this is their first time trying something new, so lets not knock them if they fell down. Based off of feedback hopefully next year will see improvements.
Please no, this spokesman is currently not in the employment of Cryptic, PWE, CBS or whoever else claims rights to this game.
Had to add that as a little joke in case anyone thought I was a fan boy, which if you look for other post you will know I am not. I just will stick up for them this time as they were trying something novel After all could be worse. 1st one ready gets the token and you have to start a new que or the parts are hidden and have to use tricorder or it requires doff to build parts at about 5 min per quality or even worse, if you rocket doesn't do well then you have to re-que. I just wish they would go back to getting the entire base of players feedback by opening this up on tribble to all for some minor gift, so they can see issues now not 1 hour into the event on release day.
So...has any dev stated if its a per character grind or account unlock once the project is done yet?
Considering I'm losing a large chunk of my personal playtime to fix the railgun (healcannon, more like), I'm hoping its account unlock
It's per day, per character, which blows. Cryptic fail to realize that people have more than one toon, some moreextreme than others - and they want us to continue to grind and time sink it. It appears they are turning everything into grindfest and time sink - including old events that offer give-aways. R.I.P. Day of Honor & the Romulan equivalent.
"When you complete the queue for the First Contact Day event, you will receive a special Zefram Cochrane Memorial Hologram Voucher (limit one per day, per character). A minimum of 4 Holograms are required in order to receive a Special Event Prize Box that includes the following:"
The sad part is that Like the Utopia Planitia map after this event is over they will not be seen again. I really wish that both of those were in game as social zone's.

I agree
They should had left it alone and not turn it into a grindfest and time gate. I personally do not see the logic of KDF players and Romulan players celebrating MONTANA.
Going to skip this entirely, same as I do for any event that requires you to be running after objects and getting them before others.
If anything is biased against transatlantic pings its stuff like that, run over start to interact only to find you either slide backwards as the server and client match up or you find that it's already been got.
Look, if people can repeatedly grind ISA and CCA for only Marks and Dil, then surely running FCD once a day on each toon is an easy grind!!!

If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

I'm in the UK, so I am transatlantic, and I don't see anything like that. BTW I'm on copper-wire Broadband at 17.6Mb connection.

It's in the Foundry, you can stage whatever events you like with just a little work (ie. make your own first contact day episode.)

The competition is indirect. What players collect does not influence what other players collect. You just run the event as best you can, and at the end your progress is incidentally compared between 5 players.

It's great, until you realise your efforts have absolutely zero affect on your score...
It seems to be 100% rng based. It's immensely galling to see your efforts count for nothing when your maxed out rocket blows up on the pad, while the AFKer who put 0 effort into it gets a 250+ score.

There's a couple ways you can influence your score.
1. Plan your search around getting all three components.
2. Completing wave forms as quickly as possible.
That doesn't bring the RNG component to 0%, not by a long shot. But there's something to this (though I'd have personally liked to see it as an open mini-game for a social zone rather than as a PVE.)

Never seen slug ships with no parts ever get more than a 19 score or not blow up right over the launchpad.

I run this queue for both my STO accounts on separate PCs simultaneously to collect marks. Since interactions are not absolutely necessary, that means I can do other things while the queue is running like prepare and eat dinner, then clean up afterwards.
It doesn't matter if the model rocket blows up on the launch pad since there is no affect on the number of marks rewarded. If Cryptic is going to repeat this same event next year, they need update it so that players actually do not have model rocket to begin with. Players need to at least scavenge for the 3 basic parts needed to create the model rocket.
Nothing should be rewarded at the end of the mission, if even the basic rocket has not been built. Although the 30 minute cool down should be "rewarded".
Give players an actual incentive to get their model rocket to travel the furthest (though RNG "bad luck" should still apply). The player coming in 1st place should get something like 30 extra marks. 2nd place rewards 15 extra marks, and 3rd place rewards an extra 5 marks.
The rng gods are not kind to me in this event. Today I had all purple parts and the afker rocket went farther than mine. His went 27 feet and mine went 4 feet. This has been par for the course on my fifteen runs of the event. I can tell it is April 1st today because my fed engineer built two rockets at the same time today. One workbench did not spawn a player so my name was placed on the empty bench too. It was built the same as my primary rocket. My rocket went 168 feet and the fake rocket went 19 feet. These are just my weird observations on this event. I just may forget about it and do something I have not ever done before and afk my final five runs of this event since it doesn't matter what I do and the rng gods being so nasty to me. That includes multiple spider attacks and multiple burning workbenches in the same instances.
I think the KDF players should be awarded a Tritanium Rending Bat'leth and the Romulan players should be awarded something equivalent which is Romulan. All this homogenization of the two and a half factions across the board may make mission creation and maintenance work easier for the Devs. But it also makes for dull and boring gameplay. I was embarrassed when I talked this up to people (They're bringing back First Contact Day/Day of Honor! 'Bout time!) and then found out what the rewards really are.

Ah yes, I had forgotten about that one.
I actually played it on all my characters because it was fun.
