Lock Box Ships

So I am sure this tread will be trolled and what not but I have a suggestion to Cryptic they should allow us to get lockbox ships on other characters for cost of some Zen so if you have the ship on one Character and want to make another we wouldn't lose what ships we have. Which would be good for when they introduce like Temporal characters and Delta Characters.

If something close enough ever happens, it'll probably only be with the lockbox ship traits, since they're starting to do this for C-Store ship traits normally exclusive to one faction.

We'd asked for this once a month or so. The ability to pay zen for any of these: (Including a thread just a few days ago.)
    - Re-box the ship in an account-bound box to move it to a different character
    - Unlock the ship on a second character
    - Unlock the ship account-wide

Since we've been asking for years now, it's not likely to happen any time soon. Either PWE/Cryptic has decided that they make more money selling multiple copies of the ship to the big spenders than they would selling unlocks, or CBS won't give them the OK to sell unlocks.

I'm actually on-board with this one.

It may well be a decent zen sink to allow folks the option of spending an insane amount of zen dismissing and reclaiming the same ship on every one of their characters (so long as the total number of commissioned ships of that type does not exceed the number they've dismissed) in order to collect the traits and/or ASScard. We seem to be at the point where folks want to do this, but the current cost is prohibitively high.

Seems like taxing it via the C-store would be the healthiest way (economically speaking) to go about making their dreams come true.

I highly doubt anything like this would happen, but I would support something like this as long as it still managed to generate income for Cryptic. 2500 Zen per character for T5 ships. 3000 Zen per character for T6 ships. But to be honest, I'd be happy with just having the Admiralty cards unlocked and reclaimable for the account.

CBS has said that Cryptic can't have 'exotic' ships widespread, hence the Lockbox/Lobi/R&D versions. For Cryptic to make available this type of request would require the permission of CBS.

Only problem I have is that they made 26th, Temporal and 31st Century Ships C-store instead of Lobi/Lockbox/R&D, as technically they don't belong in our timeline.

If Cryptic ever caves and does this, then I suspect this will be how they do it. Not at some reasonable price like 500 Zen.

I'm sort of surprised they haven't executed this idea by monetizing it in this way. You'd not increase the net amount of these unusual ships flying around by just unlocking them for use on alts of an account that already owns the ship.

I would gladly pay $30 per character unlock for favorite T6 Lockbox & R&D Promo ships to use on an alt. I'd actually play alts (which I don't do now) and ultimately generate more revenue for Cryptic. I doubt I'm the only one who thinks that way.

It seems to me the question isn't "Why won't they"?, it's "Why haven't they?".

500 Zen is not reasonable at all. These ships are meant to generate revenue. And they obviously do. They should continue to do so, even if a C-Store option were to be made available. Further such a C-Store option should only be available to the players that already own the ship and not the general population.

And I suspect that this is the reason why we really wouldn't get this as an option. Putting these ships in Lock Boxes not only generates revenue, but also limits the number of these ships in-game. While a C-Store option would make these ships a lot more plentiful in-game.

Be nice if they made the Jem'haddar attack ships available in the Lobi store.

I'm all for a solution that does not involve increasing the number of ships, only moving them from one character to another on the same account.

Cryptic is a business. If something is more profitable, they will absolutely do it. The fact that there aren't c-store unlocks for alts for lockbox, lobi and promo ships tells you that they don't have a reason to believe that it's more profitable. Lots of people are using their own personal anecdotal evidence so I'll use mine.

I have lots of lockbox, lobi and promo ships but I'll use just one as an example. I have 3 Astikas in total. 3 different characters each have an Astika. Each time I bought one, I used EC to buy them from the exchange. Assuming they were not bought on a lobi sale, those 3 ships cost a total of 2700 lobi for someone to create. Let's do the math.

    2700 lobi / 5 lobi average per lock box = 540 Master Keys. 540 / 10 = 54 ten packs of master keys. 10 packs = 1125 zen. 54 packs x 1125 zen = 60750 zen. That's over $600 to create 3 ships.

So assuming even a 3000 zen unlock for alts, I would only have generated $90 for Cryptic instead of $607.50. That's why we don't have alt unlocks on the c-store. I believe, and likely cryptic believes, that they will never see nearly much money from such a system. I would have to buy 20 astikas from the c-store to generate as much money as I did buying 3 from the exchange.

Also as a side note, this will drive down the price of master keys and ships EC exchange prices. This would also hurt cryptic by devaluing their prize ships.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I know that if Cryptic did this, there would no longer be a reason to open lockboxes, for me at least.
