Poll for creating an extra Skill Tree tab for captains to have more than one selectable set of skills (space/ground, not specialization).
This would allow us to make better use of the wide variety of ships, abilities and gear in the game; rather than having to essentially dedicate each captain to one type of build or to a generic build.
Please select the highest option you would be willing to pay for, as without a monetization incentive there isn't really a compelling reason for Cryptic to work on this. Particularly given past issues with ability tray/trait slots, there's no point doing it if it isn't worth doing right.
Would you pay 500 Zen for an additional Skill Tree? 57 votes
Yes, I would pay 500 Zen for an additional Space/Ground skill tree tab
I would pay Zen, but not 500 per captain, for an additional skill tree tab
I would not pay Zen but would use an in-game unlock (similar to extra Ship trait slot) at a Fleet or other facility
I would not pay Zen or an unlock, this should be a basic free feature for all captains
One skill tree is good enough for me

Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!

I get DuncanIdaho11's point that we have alts for that, and alts to some extent boost the amount of consumption/sinks in the game. I simply wouldn't create and level an alt just to try out a torpedo build, or a carrier/pet build, or to have a fast ship for running certain content that speed would benefit.
If I had a second skill tab and could switch to it, quite a few of my captains would run two different types of ship builds at various times. It would also help me in experimenting with different builds while not giving up my 'main' build (something a lot of people currently do on Tribble, which does nothing for the prime economy).
(Edit: it wouldn't be a 'switch on the fly' thing IMO, as in, something you could do in mid-mission or mid-battle. It would be something you select while outside of combat and mission zones, same as making changes to your traits.)

This would be very nice. Right now if you want to optimize you have to consider "is this story episode more space or ground?" and for space vs. ground queues and battle zones you need to remember to switch your primary and secondary back and forth.
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
The current system is both restrictive and expensive to change your skills. You have no way to test a skill setup and respecing costs a fair bit when you don;t know the outcome.
Also having access to two skill trees would allow you to have a couple of builds available to you rather than be stuck into a set up until you pay for a change.
But i'd prefer it to be an in game option like the extra trait slots etc. That way it's fairly easy to grind out but would still not be something everyone could buy outright straight away.
Separate ground and spec spec trees would be very nice too.
Would be nice for anyone who likes to use both carriers and non-carriers with the same character, but that's really the only scenario where it's very useful.
Why? I would pay for an extra trait slot but not for a skill tree.

But as it isn't i'd rather they separated Ground and Space and reduced the cost to purchase a retrain token, so if I wanted to tweak 1 or the other I don't have to do a full retrain and reselect all my personal space and ground traits.
Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.
I would much rather just change respecs to cost EC or Dilithium. The thing that truly kills experimentation in builds is the ridiculously high cost of respecs. STO has a great F2P model, but this is one area where they badly miss the mark.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
this ladies and gentlemen is the danger of overspecialization.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

(Serious suggestion: Make respecs free or cost generic in-game currency (EC) like any other hack&slay does it, no real justification in taking premium currency for such a basic feature)

Since I really have not played since I got sucked into STO, I couldn't tell you if they added the capability of more 'Loadouts'.
