although I felt arena could be fun it was spoiled for me by the fact its never-ending and this to me makes most cooldowns in sto a pointless addition, the idea (we were led to believe) of cooldowns is to stop players from playing any one mission for very long periods without playing something different and risk burning themselves out on that single thing, now here we have arena - play for as long as you can without a break 4 hours, 5 hours as many hours as you like if your team can keep going long enough without any respite imposed by the game.
play till you keel over and die if you like.
so what is the real reason for cooldowns if its not to stop you doing this very thing?.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

No, the point of cooldowns is to prevent players from spamming the same content over and over for rewards. For which STO's 30minutes is way too short.
