Before the Kumaris were released as escorts instead of battlercruisers there was a rumor the Kumari would be a battlecruiser with a 90 degree rotated weapon layout.
I remembered that when not so long ago the Nausicaan set was released. Basically total junk since it includes a beam array and an extra slow TRIBBLE torp. Torps and beams don't really mix currently on slow turning ships. For beams, you want to broadside, for torps you want to go headon.
I wondered how could this and so many older sets become usefull ? I remembered this layout. For this principle to work, another addition is necessary: pure projectile weapon slots. We could have cruisers with port and starboard beams and bow/stern launcher slots. Which is imho closer to "on screen reality", better know as canon.
What do you think guys ? Obviously this would only be good for new ships, as noone would want to ruin existing fittings.
One major issue:
If those launcher and energy weapon slots would get splitted, one could either add the launcher slots (yeah, more prowercreep) or replace universal slots and provoke a major shitstorm for nerfing energy weapon builts.
Whould you fly one of the following: 8 (side-)beams + 2 torps or 6 (side-)beams and 2 torps ?
