So what is the status of the Romlan Star Empire currently in game? According to the sto wiki Sela is gone, so what is going on with them then? I need to know to roleplay my character in game.
Its still on the map despite the new map updates, so I'm going to say its in the same state it was last time Sela gave us an update...
broken worse than humpty dumpty after his great fall.......
Tal Shiar was stated to be in a tail spin after we took out the dude on New Romulus, so its splintered as they scramble for bits of power.... The Empire was already shattered into petty warlord states, made worse by Sela's abduction by the Iconians, and then the Tal Shiar losing control... Resources are so scarce the Imperial "Loyalists" could only convert a freighter for their precious Empress and assign a single Mogai as escort on a highly dangerous mission. I used "Loyalists" in quotes like that because Sela has made a career of failure, was exiled even, comes back with mercenary alien filth and uses them to hunt "her people" so she can grab power, names herself Empress and installs yes men in the senate, then fails AGAIN AND AGAIN, even to the point of a suicidally STUPID attack on a core UFP homeworld for the sake of butthurt nerdrage, before the Iconians abduct her. The fact that anyone would still follow her, imo, has to be the result of the mind control tech we ran into.... So they're not Imperial Loyalists at all, but Sela's.
All in all Cryptic did a fanfukintastic job of eliminating ANY salvageable bits of the RSE, short of maybe liberating Donatra. At this point, and I'm speaking as an Imperialist Romulan here, the diseased corpse is best finished quickly and mercifully, so that we can give rise to the Raptor Empire.(Which is my own personal RP solution to the TRIBBLE Romulans and Remans are facing now)
It would take radical steps to keep what's left of the Romulan Empire from facing extinction (and this coming from a RSE Loyalist). Sela needs to go or severely change her tune (get rid of her and bring back Donatra please). The Imperial Remnant needs to recognize the Romulan Republic as a legitimate government and officially sue for peace.
I agree Sela has to go, she was lame, and in the situation you are describing the RSE is in no position to make any threats, more like snake their way back into power secretly, maybe reform the senate with a new Praetor and rebuild their powerbase. They will probably have to recognize the republic which could lead to a cold war.
Thanks for the responses so far.
The original government seemed to be effective in its own way until Hobus... hated Sela though she was a moron.

As far as im aware she isn't back in power of the RSE a short story after the iconion war on the website made it out shes in exile.

@nickcastleton most/many romulan players feel she needs a disruptor to the face like ha'skeevy got.. until then we're not happy... Its one of the few points of common ground between RR and RSE lovers
The Romulan Star Empire bickers among the Far Stars. It will return one day, but that day is far into the future; although I do like the idea of a cold war, once that happens. What you see on the STO Galaxy map, is the southern rump of the Imperial remnant.
If anything happens with a geo-political change in the New Romulan Republic, it will be from the Traditionalists, and some conservative/reactionary Reformists.
Sela however is back. The Tal Shiar that has gone astray is literally on its own right now and tailspinning with failure. It can't even get along with the RSE, much less the Rom.Republic.
With the close of the Iconian War, I do believe the RSE under Sela is in a neutral state with the Alliance. What the RSE and Sela is doing since the end of the Iconian War however has not been touched upon. IMO there's quite a lot of leeway to go in that area, most esp. since the RSE is not at war with the Alliance.

Since I can't post in the forum, Kodachi, feel free to quote me:

And it's 2411 according to the newest FE.
forum goers might remember her as protogoth
Why doesn't she just make a new account, for the sake of posting and participating in discussions? She was one of the rare people with some real passion around here.

I'll ask her but my guess is that doing so is a violation of the forum rules and worth another ban. She generally follows the rules.
Ji'ana t'Charvon - Today at 4:01 AM
Correct.
"Circumventing a ban" is a violation of the rules.
Is there by any chance a transcript of the post that got her banned? I just can't imagine protogoth saying something that would warrant a permaban. And I know that our former "Community Manager" was all but too trigger happy, so..... *shrugs*
Apparently she was never told which post earned her the ban and she asked.... She also suggests we stop talkin about it since 'discussing moderation' can lead to bans too
To address the RSE issue, I would like to see a storyline where Donatra is liberated and then we see what she thinks of the Republic. She wouldn't, I think, be in a position to reconquer it, given the Federation and Klingon Empire's alliance with them, but it would be interesting to see what she would do.

Spend the next year or two in therapy reconstructing her sense of self would be my guess.

Yeah, sure. I see. Meh....I just miss people like her and a few others that stopped showing up around here. I think we can say that the Romulan sub-forum is pretty dead without her posts lately.
As for the RSE....well, I hope they completely drop any idea of doing anything with it, because....well....if they do anything RSE related, you just know it's going to be Sela again and I'm going to vomit. They're on some kind of a Sela trip, which when you consider she was the most pathetic character of Star Trek ever, it's just plain weird. *shrugs*

Its something to do with their weird "Trek Alumni" voice actors fetish I think. I would like to see them do something with the Imperial Remnants but only to really finally close that plot arc off and absorb it in game and on map. Cryptic so butchered the Empire that its beyond salvageable, hell it was past that point even before the end of the RR arc. They just made too much of a bad joke out of it.
Well I know many hate Sela - but I would say she was/is still ten times more a true Romulan than D'Tan. There is a reason why I named my ship Imperatrix Sela *g*. I understand why a lot of people do not like her much (although the Sela in "the path to 2409" sound not so bad in her actions and tactics, and her "We are Romulans" speech was not bad). I would also agree that the heirs of the Empire - the TS who is now freed of any Iconian influence, the Impeerial die-hards and even the Republic - should start negotiation which lead in the end to a republic which is much less Federation-style and much more Roman Republic style and has enough space for hard political infighting, hard imperialistic politics towards smaller powers in the nearby areas but also a agreement with the Remans and (for the moment) new neutral borders with the Feds and the Klingons. A place how the Romulans deserve it, as one of the great powers - not as the half-slaves and puppets of the Federation and Vulcan. Not a idealistic la-la-land in which the Romulans and Remans live as they were humans and Vulcans, but a society with deep scares when enemies of the last decades must learn to live together again for the need of the Romulan Imperial Republic, and the doom of all who stand in their way. Where trust must be earned, and hardliners of all fractions (fanatical Remans, hardcore D'Tan-followers and trators to the heritage of the children of the Raptor who could think of wisdom only in the way "Spock told us" and who kneel before the Vulcans and Humans, and of course some shortsighterd power-hungry hardcore Imperiaal officers and TS-operatives who think only of vengeance and their own benefit, too) are still an problem and must be either convinced or delt with in other ways, in which politic is a dangerous game and the daggers in the shadows are only concealed but not gone...

Wait...you can get perma banned?!? There are people who come back every few months spouting nonesense off basically asking for...in not literally asking for a perma ban not getting it and somebody who is respected in the forum gets a perma ban for something unknown?!?
On topic...the RSE in the game is dead. The only thing left is for it to get absorbed into the RR. Wish they made the romulan faction the RSE instead of the RR and if they NEEDED to make us align ourselves with a faction to cut down, they should have made the RSE align itself with the KDF...at least until the kumbayah everyone is feddie merge. That would have made more sense and made for a better storyline I would think. It would also have bolstered the KDF side in PvP when that was still a thing and it may have even prevent the death of PvP. But should have could have would have. As it stands now...it's the RR or nothing really.
You really hate the Feds don't you? Makes me kinda wonder why you ever came into an MMO about a group of TV shows/Movies centered around the Feds.

The way time passes in STO....the game will be shut down before we see two years pass...I mean it took what...almost half a decade to move to 2410? I don't know if the game will be around in 2025

she was banned some time ago for one of her mile long rants, basically someone managed to bait her and they both got slapped down.

why uder? you can get a much better shot from above, plus you get to see her face as it disintegrates!
I may be late, but heartily joining the toast to "absent friends" (Protogoth, not Sela).
As for the RSE, bringing back Donatra would work (and that actress is:
1) ALSO a Trek alumnus, AND
2) a better actress, AND
3) has a MUCH better loved character (especially among the Romulan fans.
Mind you, Joanne Linville would be even better.
