Omega Particle Tips and Tricks

So far, the best advice from the forums is "use your mouse."

I thought I'd bring up a topic to see if there's any more advice other than "use your mouse." Maybe there's even some advice for those that are dead-set on using the keyboard for the event.

I wouldn't mind a complete description of what I'm supposed to do AFTER I use my mouse to do...whatever it is I'm doing with those Omega molecules using my mouse, not the keyboard.

I started out a couple years ago using my kb and did poorly every time, until someone instructed me in using my mouse. Which is just hover over the line where the particles are until you 'catch' them, then just keep moving the mouse up and down to continue 'catching' particles. The game speeds up as you fill out particles and gets quite fast near the end, so just keep moving that mouse. it takes practice to get a good rhythm going, guess that's why some have nicknamed it the Guitar Hero game.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

Think of it this way. When using the mouse, you want to stay to the right of the mini-screen and hover the mouse over the particles as they slide to the right of the mini-screen. And by "to the right" I mean the very edge. Think of it as if you are "scooping up" the particles as they scroll to the right.

With a mouse, you can move very quickly. With a keyboard, you are absolutely gimped. There is no reason to use a keyboard for this mini game.

Agreed. I could not break 900 using the KB and with the mouse, after finding a good rhythm, I can sometimes 'catch' all of the particles, most times I'm averaging scores of 1800-2300.

The omega traces are used to ultimately craft Omega Tech Upgrades which can be used to upgrade all types of gear. Compared to Superior Upgrade Kits you get 4x the number of Tech Points and 4x the chance for a quality upgrade. The crafting steps are as follows:

1 Blue, 1 Red and 1 Yellow Omega Trace = 1 Omega Sliver
    3 Omega Slivers = 1 Omega Shard
    3 Omega Shards = 1 Omega Fragment
3 Omega Fragments = 1 Omega Upgrade Kit

Another way to look at it:

    1 Omega Upgrade Kit = 3 Omega Fragments = 9 Omega Shards = 27 Omega Slivers = 81 Omega Traces (27 of each color)

With the exception of the Omega Upgrade Kits (which is bound to account once it is crafted), everything can be sold on the Exchange.

Thanks, knowing about the better upgrade math makes a difference--but how does that translate to the current project to get the Lukari ship?

You get 40 Anniversary prize tokens from turning in the mission each day. Just doing the mini game isn't enough; you need to speak to Q each day then do the mini game at the three places listed in the mission objectives. Take note of whether the objectives say space or ground, as it's easy to do the wrong one.

For the event ship, all that matters is that you accept and complete the mission (from Q) once a day. I believe it's called "Omega Particle Stabilization (Daily)." You just need to go to the three specified maps that the missions gives out at random and play one omega mini game. It does not matter which score you get. Once you turn the mission in, you get 40 event marks.

Thanks--I'll be running "Pines and Sore Tents" each week for all the goodies anyway. The question now is whether or not letting Q tell me what to do 15 days running is something I can tolerate. :)

I find it useful to memorize the timing. the particles move at a predictable speed and rhythm.

I cannot use a mouse. It just doesn't work for me, and I score sub-1300 if I try. Keyboard I average 1800–2000, with perfect 2600 at times. The trick for me is not focusing on any one part of the minigame. I focus outside of the board, watching the entire board and working on patterns. Have to have fast fingers, but it works for me.

Subscribed. Except for the "perfect 2600" part, which I think I did once, but not more.

It is important to know that you can play this minigame two ways, and then find out which one works better for you. I have more control with the keyboard, knowing the exact amount of action (1 tap, 2 taps, 3 taps) I need. With the mouse I am easily getting too far or similar.

it takes a lot of practice to get right, but I can do it lightning fast. For me the real trick is not moving too fast nd waiting just long enough to catch particles.

    Basically, if you have:

    1. 999 (Blue traces) + 999 (Red) + 999 (Yellow) =.........37 Omega Particle Upgrades from the Specials section of R&D.
    2. 999 Silver =..............................................................37 Upgrades also.
    3. 999 Shards = ...........................................................111 Upgrades.
    4. 999 Fragments = .....................................................333 Upgrades.

Only posting this for those wondering about it.

Essentially, you're going for Silver when you play the Omega Mini-game. Anything else is extra.
It is possible to get 1 Silver every time you play.
Aim for 1500 to 2700 (Max possible) points.
To get 999 Silver this way (Rate of 1 per game max), only requires playing the mini-game 999 times.

Tip: To catch a particle with the mouse, first aim the cursor just in front of the highlighted bar but after the last thin bar.
This is your catch zone, and the particle has to be mostly past that thin bar to be 'caught' (It should make a sound).
If you drift out of this area when chasing particles, you'll end up missing them. You'll also find yourself fighting a tendency to drift to the right after a while, due to the motion of the particles.

Tip: If you have wrist problems using a mouse, try setting your game to windowed mode and shrinking the window down. This will reduce the amount of area you have to cover with the cursor, making your reactions faster on the board.

Tip: Don't use a mouse ball or a mouse with a roller ball in it. Ever. This game requires some accuracy.

Tip: Don't play this mini-game if you get motion sickness. Just buy the Blue/Red/Yellow traces off the exchange.

only one: "don't use the Keyboard". You'll rarely get to the 1200pts mark if you use it. Unless you are Uber-fast, then to reach the 2700pt maximum, you have to use a mouse.

Barely grab 600 even with mouse due to the constant lag. Luckily only 9 more days for this Devil's game.
It can stay as an event for those who wish togather upgrades, but i sincerely hope that next year a different game (hopefully one which doesn't require us to fly all across the map) is used for the anniversary tokens.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Nope, I doubt they change the game next year. Each Event has its own game to play for the giveaway ship. Anniversary is one FE and the rest Omega Stabilization missions.

    Summer: Do Flying High.

Winter: Do Fastest Game on Ice.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

The anniversary used to be the mini Q game so it is not unheard of that it might change.

Tip: In the video above it shows the player with the cursor on the back part of the catcher's-cup thing. Don't put your mouse there. Doing so will actually increase the area you try to work in and cause you to miss what you're aiming for. It's only recommended for those who have played the mini-game for a while. Instead, as suggested in tips further up the post, place your cursor in the small area right in front of the highlighted bar. This reduces the area you have to focus on, keeping you within the working area, and will let you go with your natural tendency to point-and-click at each molecule you're trying to catch. It usually catches it when it's half-way over the highlighted bar.
  • echattyechatty Member Posts: 5,916 Arc User
The mini Q game is still there as a separate game. Still, I doubt they change the Omega game anytime soon. Those upgrades are awesome if one doesn't mind farming in addition to the Stabilization mission. I did that last year. This year I'm not feeling so well, so not farming.

But last year, I acquired quite a load of traces, slivers, shards and fragments.

Not really a tip, but I max out the mouse movement in Hardware and Sound in the Control Panel. It's just something I do with all my Windows machines (desktops & laptops). Small mouse movements can make the mouse point move quickly across the screen.

For my Logitech G500 gaming mouse I mostly use the 3,600 DPI setting. The mouse allows for up to 5,700 DPI.

I could never get the mouse to work for me in this game - I always ended up sliding to the left or right and TRIBBLE up the rhythm. However, you CAN get decent scores using the keyboard, especially if you have a full-sized, external unit (preferably USB-connected). I average 1600-1700, frequently break 2000 and have hit 2700 on a few occasions. So it can be done, but it requires a quick finger and a good sense of where to position the "catcher" to maximize the number of particles you can reach at each stage of the game.

I'm glad you got the kb controls to work for you. I'm getting good-great scores with my mouse so no need to switch. We're just giving advice in a thread asking for it. But thanks for the tips.
