Hi All,
I was surprised to see how many players use the keyboard for the mini game and are having trouble scoring above 1000 points.
Hopefully this video will show you that the keyboard isn't the answer. It was a perfect run for me but I still managed to score 2500 points. You need 2300 for the max rewards.
Enjoy.

A score of 2,300 to 2,700 will reward players with the best guaranteed outcome which are 3 Omega Traces and 1 Omega Sliver.
There is an extremely small chance for players to also get either an Omega Shard or better yet an Omega Fragment. I do not believe the chance for this to happen is based on the score though. Last night I had a coughing fit (slightly sick) and I only managed to get a score of 1,650. That is enough to get 3 Omega Traces, but I also received an Omega Shard as well.
Congrats...how refreshing to actually SEE someone actually performing well in an event rather than just stating empty words. I applaud your accomplishment
.
More on topic, mouse is the only way to play the Omega game, you will never get anywhere using the keyboard.
On my computer the game animation skips....especially, when it switches to the next speed. It is especially bad this year.
Are there locations where the minigame runs more smoothly?
Or, maybe it is the time...I should try it when there is less "traffic".

I have not noticed a change from last year. I got a quite a few Fragments and Shards last night. I was actually able to snag one Fragment and one Shard this morning before heading out to work. I played for about 40 minutes. Hopefully that luck will continue tonight.
I got 1300 and 3 "fragment" (or whatever they are called) on my first try with the mouse.
Granted, my hand-eye coordination is still low and lost "sync" a couple of times and the animation skipping around on me .... but HEY! this is definitely much better. LOL!

Whilst I know it's better to use a mouse, as I use a laptop and have not got sufficient work space to use a mouse the keyboard is the only option, so please bear that in mind when others do the same
Quick fix: hard mouse pad + wireless mouse + tiny work space = put pad on keyboard and use mouse.
When this event rolls around I usually spare a few hours a day stacking the molecules up so I can sell them for big money and get some nice ships off the exchange, very time consuming though, it helps to play music or something in the background.
Edit: Also wanted to confirm that you still get Omega Fragments and Omega Shards as rewards but it's not often, I get around two Omega Fragments every 100 or so runs.
Yeah, I finally ended up getting a couple. I'm getting about the same drop rate as you, they definitely nerfed the drop rate of Fragments, I got a lot more of them in previous years.
Shrinking the screen really will help for those who can't keep up with a large surface area to move the mouse across. Instead of a 2 inch line to move along, they could easily turn into a 1/2 inch space or whatever as it would reduce their time getting from point to point. Hardest issue though is that the faster they move, the further to the right your point of focus will drift, and you'll be chasing those that have already been missed instead of those you can get. Can throw the whole pattern out of whack.
Why not make it bigger? No one can be that stupid...

1 omega is worth 1 omega
1 Silver is worth 3 omega
1 shard is worth 3 silver
then you have to craft the next level which costs 3 Shard.
and to get the upgrade it costs 3 again of that last level.

Ouch, would be the totally wrong position for me, if I am looking at a laptop screen. Too high and too far to the left
It seems about the same to me too. I've gotten one or two purples so far and I've been grinding a lot less this year than last year. I usually get 1-3 blues each day.
It's worse on console as its thumbstick flicking so more travel time between each command.
Does it work?
Yes
Does it work well?
Well, it works...
I mostly do my farming on two characters I created back in early 2017 and late 2017. This is the first time I have done the Anniversary Event on these two character. Off the top of my head and with regards to shards and fragment drop rates one character has a drop rate of between 9% - 10% while the other character has a drop rate of about 11%.
I arrived at those percentage simply by dividing the total number of Shards and Fragments divided by the total number of Slivers I got from the game. I have not done any Omega crafting on these two characters so whatever they have are simply rewards from doing the mini-game. Shards and Fragments are typically only rewards with a score of at least 2,000. However, in one instance last week I got a Fragment with only a score of 1,900 which meant my reward was 3 Traces and 1 Fragment.
I recommend you play in Windowed mode.
I play my secondary F2P STO account on my 2013 Dell Latitude 3540 laptop. While it has a Radeon HD 8850m dedicated GPU (basically similar to the nVidia 940mx), I used the Intel HD 4400 in the past to play the Omega mini-game without any issues at 1080p resolution. I don't really need to set graphics settings on high if all I am doing is focusing on the mini-game. This year is different there is definitely a lot of lag (and ghosting) when playing the mini-game using the Intel HD 4400.
I found this year that if I play in Windowed mode there is no lag in the mini-game while using the Intel HD 4400. I switch back to the Radeon HD 8850m when I decide to do something else other than play the mini-game when eye-candy is "important".
