It's been over a year since I played the game.
Think I stopped when the new expansion was announced and it looked like I had to create a new character for the old fashioned star trek, which I had zero interest in.
I was also tired at the lack of content in the game, with only 2-3 Q's able to pop and everything else you would sit for 20 mins or more waiting for the Q to fill so you could play.
I also played in the time when a Scimitar fitted with some red beams (Can't even remember the name) and some Kemo would result in just tapping space to fire all weapons and winning everything....
I have to admit, I do miss the game, but am wondering how things have changed since those times ? How far have things moved on content wise ? Do I need to effectively start again with a new character ? Is my Romulan null and void now ?

You’ll find a few more story missions (for all factions), new fleet holding and new reputation. There has also been a slight meta shift of current builds toward +threat setups utilizing last anniversaries ship trait. Your Romulan toon should do fine.

So it is good in one way for old player being able to get right back in with a familiar feel, it is bad in the sense that the game sometimes feels stagnant and not really going anywhere..
Right! Darn those torpedo and sci heavy builds.

That is sadening as I was hoping a good length of time away would give the game time to change and evolve.
What was the deal with the new (old) content ? Did you indeed need to create a whole new toon in order to play it ?
The other thing I remember hating about the game was the fact that when new things were added to the game it was nothing more than a refresh of old story missions to bring them up to date. So basically nothing new at all. All the ESD change and so on.... A total waste of time when new content could have been added instead.
Oh and one other thing..... How's the lag and rubber banding these days ?
Creating a TOS character basically gave you a few missions until you joined the main Feds, and some unique visuals for beaming and stuff. Except for the TOS starter ship, the TOS ships work for all Fed characters anyway.
That still happens.
You can do that with pretty much any ship now.
You don't have to start over, you'll just have some new reps and specializations to check out. And romulans are still the most OP, even though the Feddies get even more exclusive toys these days.
There's more content of course. Two time travel-focused story arcs finished and a new arc introducing new aliens started so there's plenty to play, a lot of the missions have 3+ unique rewards to earn on reruns. And there's of course queues and such for the new reputations.
Good time to come back, there's a new season release today. Those new queues and battlezone will at least be populated for a while.
As far as content, even though they're done under encounter restrictions and such. The foundry missions are far better content than anything Cryptic has put out. Well as long as you dodge the accolade farming ones.
As far as the queues go, if it isn't a super easy, super fast space one. Don't expect it to pop. All the marks can be farmed outside of them. So there is no real need to do them any more. Even if you do jump in to queues. don't expect them to be hard, even the elites. That's why the original Borg Elites were removed, they were to hard for the DPSer's to get through. People will say it was because they were buggy. But all the queues have always been buggy, so this excuse doesn't work.
