Is this thing held on the hip or on the back, and how good is it as melee weapons go? Does it have the charge (gap closer) that the other swords have?

It's held on the hip
I can't remember if it has the gap closer but it should
It's a pretty fair melee weapon with a decent enough ranged attack attached to it

Hip, and yes it's got the lunge attack along with a nice expose/exploit combo.

Among the best melee weapons out there, cheap if out of your reach to afford Crtd4 swords.
