Cross faction teaming is 2017 the year?

keladorkelador Member Posts: 318 Arc User
So I know this is an old topic but one I feel worth discussing again, with the story basically making the factions allied again I don't see the need to restrict teaming between factions at end game.

Do you feel that Kdf and fed players should be allowed to team for things like STFs and ground zones now that we are allied!? I feel this will help the Kdf side grow as there will be less barriers in the game for them.

I really don't see why once you get to a certain level (say 50) cross faction teaming is not allowed with certain exclusions in place on older missions that involve combat against the other factions.

having said that it would only be for convenience sake as most players probably have characters of all factions anyway so more often then not its just a matter of a quick switch and you are good to go.

perhaps cryptic are of a mind that for the small benefit it gives its just not worth the work involved especially as they would rather all players have characters from all of the factions anyway and the lack of this ability might encourage players to be more diverse rather then sticking resolutely to only one faction.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    +1 from me.

Would open up more options for events, etc so that is good in my views.

Can't really see any negative aspect to allowing it. Sometimes you just wanna team with someone you randomly meet and can't, it restricts gameplay unnessessarily in my view

Given that Omega Force (AKA Task Force Omega) is itself a joint operation, the Defara Invasion Zone is long overdue for this change.

Full cross faction play will become a reality in STO. Just after Cryptic and Perfect World realize they are losing money on this game and they begin looking for ways to prop it up.

As Cryptic themselves stated they aren't going to design any faction specific missions anymore, I can see no reason why we shouldn't be able to form cross-faction teams.

    Absolutely.

You can't start those missions with an off-faction toon anyway.

They said back in August/ September 2016 interviews that they wanted to have cross faction Armadas for teaming and such and it would most likely be a 2017 thing not sure what happend to that

My working theory is that cryptic has no developers left which have the know how to implement cross faction team up.

Those devs that are around do have the ability to add new stuff (and even good stuff) but seem to be reluctant to change anything that is already there in order not to break the entire game.

It’s sad but it’s true or otherwise we would have had cross faction team up a long time ago especially considering how beneficial it would be for the queen system or the underused faction in general.

The only way they could allow teaming cross-faction is if the particular character had actually done the missions in which it would be possible to allow teaming in terms of the storyline when the war is called off. And just to make the appeal better, if you skipped any mission, you had to go back and finish it (I really don't like skippers and the entitled)! :))

If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

That would be plausible if they hadn't just gotten done revamping the entire lighting system.

They only "reluctance" they have in regards to changing things is due to the fact they have already rebuilt most every major system from the ground up, and thus, have no reason TO change it again.
    -Skills
    -Crafting
    -Lighting
    -Sector Space
-Behind the scenes changes to how most powers in the game work, and how item MKs are done, to reduce server load
-Minor changes to reputation projects to level out how many marks/exp/ec you have to feed into them, as well as the introduction of daily bonus boxes to make getting marks easier

There basically isn't a major system left in the game they haven't revamped except PVP and Exploration, and we already know they have high level ideas for a new exploration system, and GECKO has talked about a PVP revamping being the number one priority in terms of revamps, with new PVP stuff appearing on Tribble recently!

Most of the examples you give were no adjustments to previous systems but rather a deletion of the old stuff and a replacement with something entirely new. Other things like reputations are already "newer" and pose no obstacle if to be adjusted.

That’s precisely the reason why I’m not that optimistic here. The entire game is probably designed in a way that fed and kdf can’t simply team up, and that from start. Enabling cross faction team up with existing factions now could pose more of a challenge than simply making two entirely new factions which could happily team up then. :#

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not as if I would not wish for it to happen. Its just that I gave up hope for it to happen. I did so in 2013, not in 2017 by the way.

All good points and it's seems that nobody has any issue with allowing this if possible which is the key word can it be done. The fact all factions get mashed into a party when you pug would suggest it is possible and just needs some back end tweaking to remove the restriction to teaming with a fed toon.

Now to add to my reasons I have recently moved to the console version as some friends started playing over there they are feds so I made a fed just so I could team with them at end game... They have no desire to make a kdf character so when ever I want to play with them I'm forced to switch to my fed toon.... This is a barrier that should not be in the game.

Seeing as 2017 has been going on for all of 16 days, odds are it would still most likely be a 2017 thing. B)

Fingers crossed it happens would love to play my Klingon as my main but currently forced to use a fed character as a main so that I can play with friends (dont like to solo/pug).

Won't happen without considerable investment. Problem is the same as when the Armada was introduced, we all wanted the KDF fleets to at least share Armada chat but preferably join the Armada, the response we got was it was too difficult to implement, it's the same reason you can't invite a kdf player to your fed starbase. There are, it seems, many deeply layered flags that call forth how the game responds to either faction.

This is so difficult to work around it's the reason they couldn't introduce the Romulans as a stand alone faction. My guess is that they no longer have the coders that wrote the original game code and whilst in theory new coders could spend time re-writing or at least understanding the old code, this would take too long and cost too much for little ROI. So, unless there is a major change in the game in which this functionality could be included I don't expect to see it soon unfortunately. Another example of how they can't figure out how to change old code is the "Talk to loot critter", this was broken with the introduction of the Alpha Deception Field and it's never been put right since. Eventually, of course, the entire game will become unmanageable and will need a total re-write, heck, they may already be doing it for all I know, my guess is it's two years work at least.

The reason given for not adding new PVP maps or rebalancing it was it was Legacy code and no staff member currentyl at cryptic understands the legacy code but hey they are adding new PVP maps to the game now its on the test server (helped I guess by how poplular pvp is on the consoles) so they have gotten someone to work out how to do that so gives hope for cross faction play still think its something they should do a priority one the console there is between 8-20 KDF players on per hour at the most lol

Rift did this a long time ago, before the F2P transition if I am not mistaken. I think I remember them talking about some of the same challenges they had to overcome that I read here, but they did it and it was great for the game. Other things ruined it later, but at the time it worked great. I think the primary reason they did it was PvP queues. This way, if there were not enough people from one faction, but tons on the other, it could just move a few players to the other faction and everyone could play that way. It worked and seriously lowered PvP queue times. They left an option so that you did not have to join cross faction if you did not want to and I knew a couple people who would simply not join as cross faction. Their PvP queues were literally 3-4x longer than mine. So it definitely worked.

Not saying that they don't have an entirely unique set of problems as they are dealing with a different engine. Just sharing my experience of this happening in another game.

All PvP needs to be "viable" is rewards. If it's worth playing, it's worth playing. If it's not, it's not. Everything else is optional.

    Currently it's not.
