T6 ships at level 40

fovrelfovrel Member Posts: 1,448 Arc User
Yeah, it is possible. I rolled a new character, got to level 40, rear admiral, and I can use the event ships. My character is now using the Krenim science vessel, but I could also use the Chrett Boalg. I think I can use all event ships, I cannot use the T5 and T6 ships from the store. I have to get to level 50 to use those.

Totally not intended, I presume, but hey Cryptic, leave it as it is; don't spoil the fun.

What are you talking about?! Rear Admiral is lv. 40; and Krenim is accessible for Rear Admirals (like many other ships).

I believe he is pointing out how you can get T6 ships at level 40 (and possibly how that seems to be a break from rank-to-ship-tier progression).

I know. :) But the Krenim Science vessel, at T6, is simply documented to be accessible to Rear Admirals: sto.gamepedia.com/Krenim_Science_Vessel So, I don't quite understand the issue. It's WAI, all the way.

OK, perhaps I am the noob here. Take a look at the wiki ship chart,

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Playable_starship

I take the federation ships. Tier 5 is level 40. Level 40 is Rear Admiral. Tier 5 level 50, Vice Admiral. An example is the Blockade Runner. I can fly it at level 50, not at level 40. Then we have Tier 6, also Vice Admiral level. We can fly them at level 50. Aren't the Tier 5 Vice admiral ships not the ones we can upgrade? Tier 5 level 40, Tier 5u level 50, Tier 6 level 50.

However, Tier 6 event ships can be flown at level 40. Why can't we fly T5u and faction T6 ships at level 40?

BTW, the Krenim torpedo that comes with the ship cannot be used at level 40. You tell me there is a system here.

Because they're event ships. To throw a bone at players who aren't level 50 yet, they get a "free" T6 ship.
My guess is, back when the event ships went from T5 to T6, a dev asked "shall we raise the requirement to lvl50?" and another answered "no, let them have fun at lvl40, it's an event exclusive".

The 'system' is profit. :) Anything pre Dilithium Rising was pretty much level-related along C-store Tier lines. Then came lockboxes, and they are all accessible at Rear Admiral, I think. As are most (if not all) R&D ships.

Anyway, level 40 will only be with you for a very short time. One usually levels up in this game with 2 weeks or so (and maybe 1 extra, now that the level has been raised to 60). I agree, it's a bit of a mess now, but kinda moot, like I said, as you'll hit 50 soon enough.

I imagine this will point the way to not raising the level cap once they introduce T7 in a few years.

I would say specs point the way to not having t-7 ether. no point to burning though goodwill when they can just release another spec. can always powercreep those instead.

Ships are the most important income source for PWE in STO. T7 ships, a few years in the future, are thus unavoidable.

actually with specs t-7 is more than avoidable. just canon faction ships alone can be milked tell they have one of every line of every spec. and thats not cover alien ship and cryptic designed ships. t-7 more likely tp hurt them help. t-6 is already pushing it.

Ah, now I understand what you mean. I do bot believe that can work forever, though... even if every ship gets another spec-version for each new spec, eventually all roles are over-filled with ships.

they are already over full. more so seeing as only one role matters to most the fan base. and your right it will not last forever but chances are it will last as the game will. hell I would say going as far as adding an actual t-7 would be one of the signs, sto is nearing the end of it's life.

Pssst, no one tell fovrel that this is working properly and the T6 ships have been designed to have lower hull at that level.

Read the wiki, notice the hull strength changes at 40, 50, 60. If this was "not intended" there would not be a separate level for 40.

I could be wrong about this, but can't Promo box ships be used at 40 as well? Seem to remember being excited to use my bug ship "early" on my delta recruit

No it wasn't. The tier-rank progression always broke at the T5s, some of which required level 50 for no reason. And apparently some T6's are available at level 40, similarly for no reason.

It would make a lot more sense for all T5 ships to unlock at lvl 40, as they would probably sell more of them. The way it stands, if you can use T6 at the same level at most of the T5 ships, why bother buying a T5. Surely such a small change would make Cryptic more money as well as giving more choice for the players. Seems like a win for everyone.

Not to mention that to even make T7 plausible, they'd have to come up with a new game mechanic like what they did with Specializations.
