Just a little minor annoyance I've run into a couple of times. Want to take advantage of a sale and buy a ship that you plan to use later on? TOO BAD! Game informs you your character isn't allowed to use that item and you're SOL.
And it's silly. If I were to buy a ship bundle, the game won't care if that character can or can't use all the ships available in it (which can often be the case). At the same time, it only effect characters on a player's first playthrough with a specific faction. Want to buy a Varanus for my Gorn character so he'll have it when his level is high enough? If I have a high level KDF character already, I can do this. If not? Well, guess I'm out a few more bucks (or I'm taking even longer to get around to playing my Gorn.)
Please, Cryptic, it's a pretty goofy restriction to have. I understand maybe helping avoiding new players from accidentally spending Zen on ships they can't use, but this? This is overkill. Maybe make a nice big flashing pop-up saying "THIS CHARACTER IS TOO LOW LEVELED TO CURRENTLY USE THIS VESSEL. ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU WISH TO PROCEED WITH THIS PURSCHASE?"

Five level 60 characters available, a ship sale comes up and ........ I could not buy the Andorian ship pack as it is ONLY available to Feds (and Fed aligned Romulans don't count), and, of course, my Andorian AoY toon I wanted to buy it for was too low of a level to purchase it.
It is "our" zen to spend. We earned that zen, whether with real money, dilithium sales, or the ARC quests, let us spend it the way we want. Yes, provide a huge warning banner if someone tries to buy something the current toon can not use, but allow us to go ahead and buy it anyway. No one can demand a refund claiming they accidentally bought something unuseable because they had to acknowledge the banner.
It's a win for "most" players. I quote most because I am assuming that MOST players are smart enough to actually read a huge warning banner and NOT purchase the item unless they do have a plan for the item in the future.
It's a win for Cryptic as there will be more impulse buying. A level 30-40 something player sees or hears about a really nice T6 ship and they go ahead and buy it right then...because they can. Later when they reach level 50-60 they have decided they really prefer Escorts instead of that T6 cruiser they bought on impulse, so now they spend more zen to buy a T6 escort class.
I, for one, would have spent a lot more Zen than I have if I had been able to buy something when I first wanted it ..... and had the extra money for Zen, instead of being forced to wait till I leveled up, by which time the urge to buy had long since gone away and/or I didn't have the extra money for Zen anymore, having spent it on other things.
